Well, I have a request. Since my amp has all the remixing stuff, how about an option so that it only upmixes (and transcodes to AC3) sources that have more than 2 channels? All 2 channel sources would stay as 2 channel PCM.

Personally I would quite like a new stream allocation interface. Something like this: -
http://82.2.167.24/Uploaded_Files/Doom9_Forum_files/Proposed_AC3Filter_GUI.gif
Of course, more stream types could be added as the filter progresses.

also add an category for number of channels, which might be handy in case for listening music or 2 channel stuff

I have gotten the AC3Filter to work through both WMP9 and ZP playing WMV media.
AC3Filter input shows as:
PCM24 3/2+LFE (5.1)
Output on receiver: 5.1SW DD
For MP3 audio I'm using the "Moonlight Odio Dekoda" then passing the output to AC3Filter this also works:
AC3Filter input shows as:
PCM16 2/0 (Stero) 48000Hz
Output on receiver: 5.1SW DD
For MPEG Audio I can not get any output, I'm using the AC3Filter directly and it shows the correct type of input:
SPDIF/MPEG Audio:
speaker: 2/0 (Stero)
sample rate: 44100Hz
stream 8bit
frame size: 732bytes
nsample: <an increasing number>.
frames/Errors: ,an increasing number>/0
Hoeever I receive no output nor an moving bars within the Levels area of the Main tab.
Output on receiver: None.
What am I doing wrong with MPEG audio?
Zoomplayer Settings:
Filter Control->Settings: Use Internal Equalizer (unchecked)
DVD->DVD Setup->Customized: Disable internal DSP (checked)
AC3Filter Settings:
Main
Output: 3/2+SW/5.1 channels
PCM 32 bit
SPIF (disabled) (checked)
Mixer:
Audio Gain (checked)
Audio Mix (checked)
Bass redir (unckeced)
Gains:
No changes made
System:
Under Use AC3Filter For: (all checked)
Under SPIF passthrough (all checked), except for MPEG
Prefer AC3 (selected)
Use Direct Sound (selected)
I thought it might be the MPEG! Aduio decoder in AC3Filter so I setup MPEG1 Audio to be decoded using "Moonlight Odio Dekoda" so the output is the exact same as from MP3 audio, however I yet again receive no output? Any suggestion as to what I'm doing wrong?
Is there any know issues with non 48000Hz audio re-encoding?, as everything I have that does not output DD sound is a non 48000Hz audio?
Thanks,
ERIC GANDT

Yes-
anything with a 44khz sample rate will not work. hopefully future versions will be able to re-sample these sources so they can be used.

Humm, just to check if I'm up to date. Which is the latest AC3 filter version? RC5?

6 channel Ogg in MKV confuses AC3Filter it would seem.

I did read the thread, I actually posted somewhere in it. But because Valex hasn't posted for such I long time, I was just wondering how the progress was (if there was any).

well the question should rather be if valex still works on it or on anything for this comunity

Then let me rephrase the question: Is there any way we can make Valex clear that his work is very much appreciated by a lot of people. People that cannot work without AC3Filter anymore. People who are addicted to AC3Filter. So that he will continue the fantastic work he has done so far. Please?

I suspect (and hope) that Valex has just decided to stop public testing of AC3 filter pre-releases and has gone to private development. With the use of the GPL, you are obliged to make your source code available along with any binaries. Problem is, it's rather a pain in the butt to wrap up and distribute the source code each time you make a release candidate, not to mention there may be any number of places left in your source code that you want to clean up before giving it to anyone else. With all due respect, the GPL states that if you can't release your code, then you're not to release binaries (be them release, RC, beta, or whatever.)
We'll probably see a source + binary release of AC3Filter 1.01 once it's finalized. I hope.

I certainly hope you are right (perhaps Valex could confirm). I will be waiting patiently until the next release. In the mean time I will continue enjoying AC3Filter RC5.

RC5 cannot decode Ogg 5.1 and HE AAC 5.1 correctly. It only decodes as 2 channels. Also tried MatrixMixer and it did not help. Would be nice to decode all 6 channels correctly and reencode to AC3 SPDIF out.
Hmm. I figured out that AAC had decode to 2 channels enabled in it's own decoder filter. Doing some testing now but it's looking more promising.

AAC-LC 6Ch Speaker Test (http://82.2.167.24/Uploaded_Files/Doom9_Forum_files/AAC-LC_6Ch_Speaker_Test.zip)
Coz it works perfectly on my set up. Via analogue output and digital output - the little Dolby Digital logo flashes up on my DSS amp and everything!

It's OK after I switched 2 channel downmix off in the AAC decoder things played back perfectly.

Hi ur test file works fine when DD out and multichan out. When i downmix my output, i only get sound from front en center speakers, is downmix not supposed to have 2 channels carrying 5 channels information and decodec by my Dolby Pro Logic amp?
the results with downmix:
- Back R/L are played by Front R/L
- LFE not availabe (this one i understand)

I'll be honest, I have not checked the filters down mixing capabilities, so I don't know how accurately AC3Filter is able to keep the channel mapping!
If anyone else is interested, I have a few more 6Ch 'speaker test' files like this on my web site you can try!

i think that would be nice, very handy for setting up a system, and a file which is confirment to have right channel mappings minimize the possibility of faulty mappings from own encodings.

Hello,
I'm trying to play a dts vob with zoom player, but it doesn't work.
DS filters installed: Universal mpeg splitter, universal mpeg video decoder, ac3filter RC5.
When I open the vob file in graphedit, I get the following.
filename --- Universal mpeg splitter --- Universal mpeg video decoder ---- Video renderer
--- Nero Digital audio decoder --- Ac3filter --- direct sound renderer
I have Nero burning rom installed, So I unregistered all nero filters, but when I re-open the vob file I get the following.
filename --- mpeg2 splitter --- Universal mpeg video decoder ---- video renderer
When I connect manually all filters, I can get the vob working, but it can't do it automatically and I don't want to play with customized playback in ZP.
Any idea?

I also played with the Merit system with no success.
It seems that Universal mpeg splitter doesn't output correctly the right thing or ac3filter is not a recognizable valid filter for DTS according to Windows.
Pitou!

Pitou,
Sounds to me like too many filters are being used!
I've tried AC3filter with WMP9, MPC and BSplayer and it seems to OK with Mpeg2/DTS in VOB and Mpeg4/DTS in AVI.

What is your mpeg splitter and mpeg video decoder?
Could you take a snapshot in graphedit?
Thanks.

Pitou Sadly I'm going to have to revise my BSplayer statement!
I've just reinstalled BS player on my new HTPC and it does not work. So I will have to find out why it does not work on this PC but does on my other. When I work out the settings I will let you know!
In the meantime however, I can confirm that WMP9, MPC and even Nero's ShowTime Player does work!
Have you tried MediaPlayer Classic... it's bloody good you know?
Cheers

22nd June 2004, 18:18
ok I'll wait for your settings.
I already know about media player classic, but since all players I tried rely on directshow filters, it doesn't make any difference.
Thanks.
Pitou.

However, as most players improve they tend to include more and more built in features and filters, so on player can indeed carry out functions that others can't!
I must admit I do prefer MPC over BS player because of this.

I am very interested. Some AC3Filter versions don't work on my system, some do. For example, rear speakers are not working since version 1 came out. I am still using 0.70.
That's why I will be very pleased if you have some AC3 or DTS 6ch tests to share, thank you very much! :)

Just hop along to my web site and look in 'Area 51'
Once there you will find 'A/V Setup Tests' and in there are some more 6Ch 'speaker test' files.
Currently I have made: -
AAC-HE, AAC-LC, AC3, RA9, WMA and WAV

This is so sad. :( I am addicted to AC3Filter.
Hope everthing is fine with Valex in his personal life and also he and Gibalou work it out with themselves and the develpment of both projects goes on.
Also, thanx to Gibalou for his DTS library.
Hoping for the best. :)
