No audio or subtitles..whats the deal?

Hey all,

For the last week or more I've been trying to add my own subtitles to 'Oh Brother, Where art Thou?' but no matter what I try I get some type of error.

Here's a step-by-step of what I do (please point out what I'm doing wrong):
1.Use DVDshrink to rip DVD to hard drive
2.Use VOBEdit to extract Video,Audio and subtitles
3.Use IFOEdit to save my CellTimes.txt file
4.Use Subrip to rip out subtitles in the proper format
5.Edit subtitles in Subtitle Workshop + resave subtitles as .srt
6.Use SRT2SUP to reconvert the subtitles into .sup format. Write down the IFO colors listed at the bottom of SRT2SUP in brackets.
7.Replace the subtitle file in the original rip folder with the newly modified one.
8.Use SupRemap to fix the colors in the new .sup file
9.Use ReJig to author a new DVD.

The problems I'm having are numerous. First, when I re-author the DVD I don't get audio at all. There is absolutely no audio on the reauthored DVD. Secondly, I can't seem to be able to add 2 different colored subtitles to the DVD. I would like to have 1 color for 1 character, and a different color for another character, but unfortunately my very limited knowledge of DVDs is holding me back quite a bit.
...Also, ReJig crashes when I try to reauthor individual scenes to test my work.. Any re-authoring tools that are more flexible?

If anyone could help me out with this I'd be eternally grateful.

if you're lucky, SRT2SUP accepts the .srt color tags

this is just like html, but some programs accept it in .srt subtitles, some do not

Why don't you use IfoEdit to Reauthor your new DVD? It is very easy to use and you are not going to have audio problems, and you can set the subtitle colors manually... it works very good.

I tried out your suggestions. The colors are working good enough for me, but I still can't get the audio working.

When I remux with IfoEdit I still have no audio. I opened my Video_ts.IFO created by ReJig and by IfoEdit in IfoEdit to compare it to the original rip..

ReJig:
Video: MPEG-2 720x480 (NTSC) (NTSC 525/60) (16:9) (pan-scan & letterboxed)
Audio 1: English (Dolby AC-3) 2ch 48Kbps DRC (ID:0x87)
Subpicture 1: English (2-bit rle ) (ID: 0x20)

IfoEdit:
Video: MPEG-2 720x480 (NTSC) (NTSC 525/60) (16:9) (letterboxed)
Subpicture 1: English (2-bit rle ) (ID: 0x20)

For some reason, IfoEdit doesn't even list that there is audio. ReJig's audio doesn't work, but at least it lists that there is some kind of audio in there. The settings in rejig's version are the same as the original IFO.

Could VOBEdit accidentally corrupt the audio stream as it is ripped, causing it not to work when its remuxed?
Any other thoughts or suggestions would be great, because my brain is about to explode.

Hey man, Have you tried it in a Stand Alone DVD?. I'm trying the exact same method, and my problem is that, even though de DVD is played without problems in de computer, In the stand alone player the subtitles shown are the original (English) and not the new ones (Spanish) ... I can't get it.

Do U know what could be happening?

I've answered this question many times, and hopping that is the solution of your problem, here it comes again.

Subtitles stream (4:3)

Those are the parameters for every subtitle stream, if it's not like that, you will be able to see only the first subtitle of the movie and not the rest.
You have here the parameters for 10 subtitle streams (I think it is enough!).
Use them with IfoEdit, openning the main IFO file of the movie at the PGC.

Note: The parameters works very good on PAL DVD... I am not sure on NTSC.
