DVDmaestro - 23.976 subtitles on a 29.97 (3:2 pulldown) movie...losing sync!

Ok,
I have a 23.976fps divx with matching .srt subtitles. I encoded the divx to mpeg2 for dvd with a 3:2 pulldown. Problem is, When I add the subs while authoring (dvdmaestro) they start out synced but progressivly get futher off as the movie continues.

My first thought was that I just needed to convert the subtitles from 23.976 to 29.97....so i did that using subtitle workshop, that just made the subs totally not match my movie, they were way too short

However, if I instead convert my srt to an sup and then author with ifoedit, the subs are synced all the way through.

If anyone has any ideas, throw me a bone, please!

You need to set the drop frame flag on the video stream to true. e.g. suign pulldown.

pulldown.exe input.m2v output.m2v -nopulldown -drop_frame true

Only include the bit in italics if you are feeding pulldown a 29.97 stream (i.e. it's alredy been pulldowned).

For future reference, your encoding app may also have an option to set this flag to true.

Well, I followed your directions...but It doesnt seem to have worked.
I added the drop frame tag to my m2v, but the results in maestro were the same.

I'm not supposed to be changing the frame rate on the subs, am I? Right now I'm just coverting the srt to stl for importing to Maestro.

I don't know if it's relevant, but in Maestro at the bottom of the movie window where it says the aspect ratio and frame rate, it just says 29.97. Is it supposed to say drop frame or 3:2 pulldown or something?

In the meantime, I've sorta fixed the subs by using the time stretch in Subrip then importing, but they're not really exact. Watchable, but I'd still like to know how to properly do this.

make sure pulldown.exe supports dropframe. I had an earlier version of it, and did -dropframe and did NOT get an error message, but I found out later on that the version of pulldown.exe I had did NOT support the dropframe command. So, maybe you don't have the right version. I think the version listed on doom9 is the version that DOES NOT support dropframe.

set options in pulldown to:
1)Framerate:29.97
2)Set drop_frame_flag for NTSC streams: true
save&process.

for the subs(srt) use subtitleworkshop and load srt(input=23,976-output=29.97) and save back

then pick up srt2sub and use this to report "overlapping" errors:
SRTfile-open as text-tools-report overlap.
if any overlap erors appear simply use the TIMEOFF: and click the "decrease time off" till the red subs become WHITE!!
save as textlist=.SRT

then use sub2stl
TV system: NTSC
Tahomo 26pt or whatever font you choose.;)
dont change any settings
hit CONVERT.

now you should have a nice synced 29.97 Synced subtitle
dvdmaestro should not report overlaps etc..

to check if all is OKE use the preview function to check your movie(sync problems)!!

to get REALVIEW working install the cinemaster2000 Codec.

this way its working every time for me.
