Combine two idx/sub in one?

Hello all.

Does anybody how to combine two idx/sub pairs in one?

I have a idx/sub with English and another with the director's comments. Is there a way to merge them other than re-ripping the subtitles all together from the DVD?

This utility is nice, but only for merging subtitles in text format (.srt, .sub) rather than .idx/.sub format.

How about the vobsub joiner? It is included in the vobsub package, after all ...

joiner basically append 2nd subtitle file to the end of 1st subtitle file. what i meant is to merge two separate subtitles into one, eg. one file is for english language,the other is for German. After merge, you get one subtitle file which contains two language streams you can choose while playing back, instead of having to load separate files.

OK, I misunderstood the question. I don't know of such a tool. The easiest would be to convert your subs to sup format, then use an authoring tool such as muxman or ifoedit to mux it with audio/video files of at least the duration of your subs. Finally, use vobsub to rip the subs again to idx/sub.

Kind of long-winded, yes, it's just a workaround.

Would raring the subs work? never used it, I don't know if it's useful for several files. The point seeming to be, have a single subtitle file to choose from for playback

For playing back in PC using MPC + dvobsub, it actually recognize separated sub files by renaming properly, for example:

movie file:
matrix.avi

subtitle files (.idx/.sub):

matrix.eng.idx
matrix.eng.sub

matrix.chs.idx
matrix.chs.sub

i am able to switch between two language streams (eng or chs). However, my DVD player (w/ MT1389FE) are not capable of recognizing such renamed sub files. It can only read normal sub file name format: matrix.idx + matrix.sub. That's way I am looking for such merge tool.

Anywhere to find the spec for vobsub file format? i would like to try to create a such tool.
