View Full Version : ripping subs with vobsub from badly mastered DVDs

Hi there,

i recently came across two dvds on which vobsub chocked badly. I suspect that the dvds had mastering errors or some sort of really weird copy protection ... I'd really appreciate your input to find a way to get working idx-/sub- subtitles from these dvds.

In particular:

1. Mulholland Drive (german edition, english & german audio, german subs): it took vobsub about 5 times longer than usual to rip the subs, the resulting .sub was empty, the .idx only contained the configuration stuff and no index entries.

2. Komm, suesser Tod (Austrian movie with english and german subs and german, well, austrian audio): vobsub aborted (after finding the key) with "indexing failed", no other error messages, no .idx / .sub files created.

Vobsub was called by robot4rip in both cases, the configuration files seemed to be alright.

I partially managed to get the subs by using SubRip, however, the timings were pretty messy and had to be corrected manually ... a lot of work that breaks the automated backup process.

Thank you for your help,
Thoralf.

did some more testing:

1. Mulholland Drive

the problem seems to be related to r4r: starting vobsub manually (via configure/open) works just fine.

2. Komm, suesser Tod

no improvements in this case ...

Maybe try vsrip.exe?

Thank you for this hint - worked well with Mulholland Drive, but not with Komm, süsser Tod. I suspect that vsrip.exe is just a different front-end for the vsfilter dlls ...
