How do I add subs to a SVCD?

Hi, I downloaded an AVI with external subtitle files idx/sub. I encoded the AVI to SVCD but now want to add the subtitle stream. How do I do this? Do I need to add this during the encoding? or do I do this now during the muxing or CD image creation process.

My subtitles must be corrupt because I can't get anything to open these sub files.( Subtitle workshop, Sub Station Alpha...)

You can mux your subs into an SVCD-compliant mpeg file using e.g. (win-)submux. Follow the doom9 guide and substitute submux for I-Author (it will require a slightly different, Philips-like script format, check the winsubmux readme).

The tools you mentioned can only handle text-based subs which idx/subs are not.

Beware, not all standalones will play back "soft" (i.e. selectable, muxed) subs. Regarding software players, support for such subs was only recently added to mpc. Other players will not show these subs at all.

Ok, thanks for the help. Tried the program but gave a bunch of warning - invalid sub then said no sub stream at the end.
Oh, well, I guess I'm SOL
