View Full Version : Converting sub/idx to srt

I am interested in converting a sub/idx to srt so that my standalone divx player will recognize the subtitles.

The consensus is that you can use either subrip or subresync for this task.

However, when I try using subresync, it asks me to "add" to match letters. I am assuming that this is the OCR step?? If so, will it do this for every single letter of every single word? (If so, that could take some time.)

Also, is one program better than the other for converting?

And do I have to be concerned about timing after the conversion (ie: will the subtitles remain in synch with the speaking)

Its easy to use Subrip as you mentioned. The OCRing may take from 5 minutes to 10 depending on the content.

After you type some initial words/letters a character matrix is created storing the letters and its corresponding picture then from this database all the forthcoming letters are OCR'd. Therefore this doesnot take as much time you expected.

Another advantage on using subrip is that you can directly parse IFO files to make srt subs, instead of from Idx file in subresync.

Edit:
And do I have to be concerned about timing after the conversion (ie: will the subtitles remain in synch with the speaking)

There is no syncing problem in using OCR'd srts.

Hope that helps...:)

SubRip has no options for .srt > sub/idx conversion. How'd one do it should one wanted to, for some reason ?
