Subs to SVCD

I searched for a way here to inplant or make my SVCD 2disk with subs.
And I come to the conclution that all softwares work with AVI fules.

Exeption for perhaps some. I downlaoded WinSubMux_0.2.0.2 and that didnt work at all. I choose cd1, sub file for cd1 on stream #0 ..


Error one:
'av' is not a valid integer value


Then i press some boxes, preciew dont work at all, info and time is a bit strange, but it runs and after that i go to the first flick (files) and now the Time adjusment bock is green and i can press it ..


well then i get this error when pressing multiplex:
' is not a valid integer value


I run winXP pro .. NTSC mpeg2 file in SVCD format.


Why is everything with Video so hard? Why not make the SVCD more like you putt the mpeg file in one dir, and a special sub format in another and you can choose from them... that would be a dream i know hehe

Well ... why should you have the subs separately? Wouldn't it be much easier to have all in one standardized file? DVDs do it just that way, too ... :D

Seriously, winsubmux will mostly produce the error messages you describe when you don't feed it the proper subtitle files. Check the readme for the correct file structure.

Apart from winsubmux, you could try I-Author by Enreach (no longer sold outside of China) or the Philips SVCD Toolkit (no idea about its status). But if you don't feed them properly formatted subtitle files, they will error out as well ...

If you are looking at automated conversions, give dvd2svcd a try, it includes svcd subtitle support.

Also, before investing too much time in seectable svcd subs, make sure your standalone supports them (there are actually two flavours, CVD and SVCD style subs). As for software players, MPC has svcd subtitle support, and there is an experimental xine plugin as well.

well i used SubTitleEditor to openup my srt file and converted it to macroDVD SUB format, becouse SUB is the one winsubmux support.

Perhaps i did that wrong, might be there the error is hidden?
What i must do is to convert my subs to pixelimage format that also use SUB as extencion?

be aware, i dont know what typ of sub my dvd support, but this tecnique inbed the sub into the image of the mpeg, or a sep bitmap thing like normal sub's on DVD's ? (am I unclear of what I ask let me know)

Yeah, it would seem the subtitle format is wrong indeed. .sub ist sadly just an extension, not a format. I currently don't have access to a windows system, so this is from memory:

try converting to Philips SVCD format in e.g. MaestroSBT and remove the Header from the (plain text) file, then it _should_ work ... again, the format (for the bitmaps as well) is described in the readme for (win)submux, I am quite sure.

You basically use a timed script (the .sub file) plus a bunch of bitmaps (the actual subtitles). These are multiplexed (i.e. NOT "burned") into the movie, similar to how subs are integrated on DVDs. Not all standalones support this, so it might be a good idea to get a sample image from e.g. vcdhelp.com to check if your player supports SVCD subs (and which type).

The alternative is reencoding and "burning" the subs permanently into the video. I am not sure which source format you use, reencoding a ready-made svcd to burn in subs will result in degradation of the image quality. Better start from your source again.
