On the original dvd I've got here, you *cannot* switch the subtitles of, and you've *got* to choose between one sub or the other.

Now, when ripping the dvd, I've got no problem to rip it with all, one, or no subtitles at all.
But on the backup, it remains impossible to turn the subtitles off...

My problem: I want to keep a subtitle with the possibility to turn it on/off.
Has any-one an idea on how to activate a blocked 'enable/disable subtitles'?

Please do a search on the server with the term IFOEdit, you'll find instructions on how to do it with that app

Simply use "remove user prohibitions" when ripping in dvddecrypter. The "Subtitle" button of your remote should then work as expected.

If you are using a software player, use software like dvdsynth, anydvd or dvdregionfree to remove user prohibitions on the fly.

Do you choose your subtitle through a menu? And if so, then I assume there is no Subtitle Off feature from what you said. That would one screwed up authoring. Anyway, can you toggle your Subtitles on your DVD backup through your "SubTitles" button on your remote? I hope your PUOPs settings for subtitle changing is enabled. As for setting your DVD to show no subtitles by default, you can look at this guide (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45440). Of course, like vtwin0001 said, you may have to learn how to use IFOedit if you haven't used it. IFOedit will be a big asset to you when you get hang of it. ;)

Indeed; that's the problem!

I'll check out the manual. I do have some IfoEdit experience (ripping in the 'pre-dvdshrink age'; joining VOBs; adapting subtitle colors,...) but it seems like IfoEdit still has (quite) some secrets for me...
