You cannot edit RV9 inside an mkv in vdub or vdubmod because there is no vfw implementation of it. Vdub/mod are entirely based on vfw, so therefore they cannot handle rv9 in mkv. You can open it and it will give you a warning, but I haven't been able to do anything useful with it beyond that.
Direct Stream Copy doesn't work either, possibly because of the non-constant timestamps in rv9.

Hmm....I haven't tried it yet but robUx4 posted that it's possible to edit RV9-matroska files with latest VDubMod. See this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58863&highlight=VirtualDubMod+RV9) for further information.

I read it. The problem is that VDubMod accepts only RV9's with CRV. Is there any program that I can use to edit MRV RV9 files?

1. Is it possible to get PSNR readings from the mov files that I get from Sorenson without resorting to the primitive method of converting them to HuffYuv?
2. Is there any REAL difference between the Sorenson 3 and Sorenson 3 Pro codecs?

Hi Ramirez
@SMD: You can replace built-in presets settings in the "Frame Size" combo with your own values; just delete suggested frame size values with your own numbers instead.
Thanks for the tip. I never even bothered to try the obvious - doh!
How big is the .Mp4 'Romeo' download file. As I tried to download it but not alot happened. Might be easier if you zipped it up!
Thanks again
EDIT...
I have to say that I am really quite impressed with Sorenson 3.5 Squeeze. I am especially impressed with the applications GUI. It's very easy to use and also, very easy to alter an individual codecs settings.
So far after importing an DV.avi file. I've generated very good looking 2pass VBR encodes at 1000kbps in Mpeg4/AAC, WMV9, RV9 and Sorenson3/Mp3. Which was a nice surprise!
With this in mind I believe it would make a great 'starting point' template for anybody making a GUI of their own encoder application!
Unfortunately, I have'nt as yet, been able to import Mpeg2/VOB directly into the application - so any help here would be useful.
But it's good. However, it should be at the price!

I downloaded Sorenson Squeeze 3.5, installed it and encoded the Matrix Reloaded theatrical trailer. The problem is that it won't decode... In WMP it shows "ClassFactory cannot supply requested class" or smth. like that. Other players won't open it as well. What's the problem?

@ Ramirez
could you please check that the upload of your trailer wasn't wrong i downloaded it 2x now and mp4creator says invalid file also quicktime says moov atom missing how do you created this neither mplayer nor videlan nor 3ivx nor envivio can parse/decode it ?

@ Cruncher: No Problem, Fixed...
Clips where created using GraphEdit /MP4UI/,tested and played nicely without a single problem.
@ SMD: Currently there is no way directly feeding MPEG-2/VOB files into none Avisynth aware applications like Sorenson Squeeze, to overcome this limitation you'd have to use a Frame Server application like Vfapi Reader, this is done by creating a fake or (Pseudo) AVI file recognizable as valid AVI File by any application which cannot directly work with Avisynth,( encoding speed with Vfapi reader codec is significantly slower then with Avisynth, around 40/45% slower),
I've packed many Vfapi plugins into one convenient pack (you can d/l it here> VFAPI Codec 1.05 All Inclusive.rar (http://www.redzone.co.il/vad//VFAPI/VFAPI Codec 1.05 All Inclusive.rar) ) which allows to Vfapi reader to import many files formats (D2V/MOV/MPG/M2V/VOB) launch VFAPIConv.Exe press "Add Job" button and load your source files, then press "Convert" and that's it, you can load now the resulted pseudo Avi file into S-Squeeze application.

Sorenson's Qpel implementation seem to produce lots of really nasty artifacts,(big blocks floating around the screen) another thing that I've notice is that there is lots of in-loop filtering going on behind the scenes (that's explains IMO pretty clean but also somewhat soft look of the videos generated by the S3 Mpeg-4 codec.

Impossible to install Sorenson 3.1 Video codecs on French OS :o

Thanks Ramirez
The thing that confused me about the Mpeg2 file problem was that the Sorenson application will accept some types of Mpeg2 A/V streams but not others (eg it will happily accept it's own created Mpeg2 A/V streams).
I had wondered if the problem was similar to the one I experienced with the 'Helix Producer Plus 9' application. As this requires you to install the 'Elecard Mpeg2' player and an 'AC3 filter' before it can read an Mpeg2/vob.
I tried to download your 'Vfapi plugins pack' but unfortunately the link was dead!

Yes, I noticed the Qpel blocks also, totally the reverse of what I had expected to see after comparing two encodes (one with Qpel and one without) at the same bitrate - very strange!
But as I can't actually use Qpel encodes with my Xcard it's not a great problem for me.
My goal is to create, a 'full movie' 2pass VBR Mpeg4 encode with AAC audio at 64kbps. In an .Mp4 compliant container.
I really love DivX but I hate the fact that I'm stuck with Mp3 audio and the dreaded .avi container!
I've tried many applications in the last few months. Hoping that they would enable me to generate an Mpeg4 video/AAC audio file that my Xcard could play. And Sorenson Squeeze is the only one that can do it so far. And It's so easy to use!
If there were some 'free' applications based on the Sorenson Squeeze GUI. The encoding world would be a happier place!
Cheers
