Convert .str to .sub ?

Convert .str to .sub ? can this be done ? if so can some one tell me how !! I'm have this Taxi 3 Xvid that has this .str subtitle .but If I'm not to wrong my DVD player ( Kiss DP-500 ) does only .sub subtitels , so I need to convert the .str file that i have to .sub ... help me someone

sub max can convert many subtitle formats
but .sub could be almost any format

I am guessing as well, but I _assume_ you have a subrip file (srt) and want to generate a Vobsub-style sub/idx essentially containing bmp information (it is essentially a vob consisting of only the sub stream(s)). I have no idea what current divx standalones expect.

My suggestion: take an mpeg2-encoded movie of at least equal length, demux the video and audio. Alternatively, use avisynth to generate a blank clip using blankclip and encode that to mpeg2.
Use srt2sup to obtain a subtitle file suitable for ifoedit. Use ifoedit's dvd authoring function to mux audio, video & subs.
Go back to vobsub and rip your subtitles to sub/idx.

There are probably lots easier solutions & I am eager to learn about them :). Easiest thing is of course to start from the DVD again.


NB: LOL. Just had a look at the KISS FAQs. It states that "Subview Subtitles ( .sub ) are supportet , other formats wich are similar may work." If it is Subview, use anything like Subtitle Studio to convert to that format. Can't get much easier than that, can it?

well I have tryed playing the movie with Zoom Player, Media Player Classic, WMP, Power DVD ... I have had it working befor .. any spesial thing I'm doing wrong ... have converted it to a lot of diffrent filenames sub, ZeroG +++ , and nothing works ... can't se the subtitle ... I made some divx of my startrek dvd somemonths ago and I then made som subtitels to them , and they worked fine then , but now on after I have reinstalled Windows 2000 the Star Trek Episodes that I ripped with subtitels that worked befor does not work now ... any ideas ?

Please be careful about what write here: is it .str ? You probably talk about .srt... If not, please paste here couple lines of subtitle to see what is it really...

Well I have solved the problem now .. well just about 2 min after last post, but then I did't take the time to edit my post ... I just installed vobsub 2.26 and the there was no problem with playing subtitels ... I have always belived that ZoomPlayer and Media Player Classic did't need extra programs to fix this subtitels .. .I have allways belived that it was builded into the software ... well now I have seen the movie with no problems on my computer , and I have converted the file to the .sub firmat and tryed to play it on my Dp-500 , but not with a total success ... I can see the subtitels in the movie ,but it only displys on the TV for a sec ( only time to read the 2 firth words ) befor if goes away ... !!! I have written a e-mail to Kiss where I have explined the problem to them, and I notice that from the old firmware ( PAL 2.6.8 ) I could play the Xvid file smooth , but in the new Firmware ( PAL 2.7.0 ) It seems more blocky and some of the blocks freezes and gets green , but in the next keyfram it gets all better , but then after just a few sec I have some new green blocks ( not big ones ... small around details ) .. I haven't gotten a a replay on that e-mail that I have sendt , but hopefully the will fix this in a newer firmware. bye the way ... anyone know of a forum that only takes up problem around the kiss DVD-players !! if not maby someone should make one!!
