adding subtitles to VOB

My method for backing up films is to demux into AC3 and M2V and then recombine in spruce up. I make and interface, add chapters, compile and burn with nero.

Is there any way of stripping the subtitles and adding them to the finished VOB files?

first i'm not into backing up to vob, i always do avis and text subtitles. But i suppose you need the Subtitles in a picture format to add them to a vob. Now you have 2 possibilities i know of: SubRip, set to "save as SUP" or "save as BMP"..i guess "SUP" is more what you need. The other method is using VSRip (from Gabest, http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli/). With both methods you should end up with some sort of indexing file and a heap of pictures. I guess you need to mux those at some point into the VOB but i have no idea if this can be done

I think that saving to sup with subripper seems to output a different format to the one required by ifoedit to do the muxing with m2v and AC3.
Anyway there are two converters in doom9.org that you may need: sub to sup (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Subtitles/SubToSup.zip) and text (microdvd) to sup (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Subtitles/DVDSupTools11.zip)

First of all u have to change your authoring program. Spruce up doesn't support subs at all.

If u r going for daynight's method and use ifoedit's authoring capabilities u can demux your subs from the original vobs using vobedit to output an ifoedit compatible sub stream.

If, however, u want to add a subtitle that it is not present in the original vobs, the two progs that daynight is suggesting might save your day, of course all depend upon the subtitle's format.

If i strip the subtitiles and convert them to sup using the tools suggested. Can i then remux them using IFO edit with the finished vobs that spruce up produced?

No! U have to demux and reauthor again.
