SRT Subs at Playback

I have a Vob file which when played I would like an SRT file I made to be displayed.

I have tried putting the srt file in the same folder as the vob file and used the same name. I am using Media Player Classic 6.4.5.8 with the Power DVD XP filters for play back. I have also installed DirectVobSub 2.23. My subtitles won't play though. I have read and searched and I have found a lot of threads about getting SRT files to work at play back with .avi but none with .vob. I don't want to reauthor the vob file as I can't afford the software. I just want to be able to play my vob file and have the SRT file display at play back. I also do not want to recompress the file to avi as I want to keep it original quality. Basically I just want the srt file to display when I playback the .vob file.

There is a reply I made, a little while back, about this. It is a method suggested in the greek doom9 board. Don'r use it at all so I am not able to repeat it right now.

Just search my replies. U ll come across it. I believe that it had to do with ffdshow filters.

It should work - I just checked it with MPC and DVobsub 2.23.

Problem could be that your SRT file is corrupted.
Best way to check what's error is to load it into Subrip's text window.
You can also convert SRT files to some other format like MicroDVD...

u can't actually change the position of the subs and incorparate them in the dvd structure without reauthoring.

What u can do is that u can playback the vobs and your subs using ffdshow filters.

U can have a better solution by using the popular TheaterTek 1.5 (around 60$) with ffdshow 18.04.03 alpha and enabling unsharp mask (22), gradual denoise (18) and ofcourse subtitles...

I downloaded zoomplayer 3 std and tried pro, I put the ffdshow filter in the filter list and registered it and verified it. I enable the subtitle option in ffdshow. The subs wouldn't display so I tried putting directvobsub in the filter list and they still wouldn't show. When I right click the and check the filters neither ffdshow or directvobsub are shown as running.

My srt file loads up in subresync correctly so I gather it is ok.

If you could tell me how you got it working I would be most appreciative. As I have MPC and Dvobsub 2.23 and cannot get it working. When I right click in the filter section dvobsub is not shown as running. Perhaps that is my problem, if so how do I get it to run? I have placed the vob in the same directory as the srt and they both have the same file name.

Update:

I have managed to get the subs to work in bsplayer. There are a few errors like no long sentences wrapping around the screen, but I am sure i can fix that (probably my errors in srt file). The video output with bsplayer has stranges artifacts - weird blockyness and sound does not work.

I'd really like to get subs working in MPC as I like it more.

Update 2:

I've found that the version of bsplayer I downloaded from the doom9 software was an old version. The new one I have downloaded has none of the above problems.

So I'll stick with it.

D Vobsub acts similar like BS Player when subtitle is incorrect (corrupted) - says nothing and loads not it.
To be sure that it won't accept your SRT (or any other) sub file you can set D Vobsub to always load: go in Vobsub's directory - it's usually C:\Program Files\Gabest\VobSub and start Direct VobSub configure. In General tab set it to Always load. Then you can even load any subtitle via file selector by playback.

I must again say that you need to check and correct your SRT subtitle file. Best way is with Subrip. Fact that Subresync loads your srt file doesn't mean nothing - I just tried one with false title numbers and it accepted it. But most of players will refuse such files. So, again, last time: Subrip :)

I got the subs working in BSplayer using DirectVobSub even got them showing in the black bands instead of on the picture :)

So I am stoked now.
