Hey, I'm a newbie to this board and I'm not too experienced with subtitles. I have a movie called Respiro, an Italian movie. My version is dubbed in French, and I downloaded the only English subtitle file I could find called respiro.grazias.island.2002-imbt. Anyway, this file doesn't even have all subtitles show up, but when I created a .smi file WMP played all the subtitles, just 27 seconds before the corresponding dialogue. I tried changing the FPS, which made it maybe 17 seconds apart, but I'm still stuck. I would like to have a .ssa file so I can input it in VirtualDub. By the way, if this subtitle synch would be fixed, would VirtualDub play it correctly because VBR audio encoding is used? Thanks.

VBR audio in AVI is a bad thing to begin with...use OGM or matroska container if you gonna use variable bitrate audio. OGM/MKV will never outsync by itself.

It's ok - I just extracted the audio. The way I fixed it was deleting 14 seconds off of non-original logo screen that delayed the video and thus threw the subtitles off.
