How to place a Subtitle file

I'm sorry, but I'm little new to this. Here is my problem.

I have a movie encoded in mpg 2 (DVD) and also the .srt file for the subtitles. I use DVDIt or Nero to burn DVDs. How I can put this subtitle file in the movie?
Please be a little specific, I'm new!

Hello, desperado new :)

Before we can provide an aproach method we need to know a few things about your authoring program. DVDit doesn't support subs so u r obviously looking in to another authoring program.

U have to decide which one would it be before u can suggest the subtitle format and a path to get there.

Affordable programs r Tmped DVD Author, DVDlab. Of course u can head for ifoedit that is free but to the expense of Menus.

I have TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.0.4.24 but don't have much experience. Only worked about 3 times with this. Anyway, I can use this one.
Do you know if Scenarist or Maestro does the job?
Now, remember, I have the .mpg DVD, the subtitle in .srt, and also the program SubAdjust 1.56 that (I beleive) can convert the subtitle file.
I appreciate any help.

Try srt2sup (hp is currently down, use afterdawn.com) to convert srt subs into sup (which is ifoedit's format for a subtitle stream). Then use ifoedit to mux.

Alternatively, there is submux-dvd (read Bachs posting in this thread: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45206&perpage=20&highlight=submuxdvd&pagenumber=2) which allows you to insert text-based subs into a vob without prior demuxing (I just tried this once myself, and it seemed to work).

Full-fledged authoring packages will certainly offer more options, though.
