Complicated DVD Compilation

I'm taking an NTSC DVD series and converting the video from 720x480 to 352x240 at a lower bitrate in order to put lots of the episodes on a single DVD. The episodes appear to all be shot on film, but the post-processing is in video. The 352x240 format will make the telecining (3:2 pulldown) look worse at 29.97fps, since it will be done on frames instead of fields. So, I decided to inverse the telecine (with Tom'sMoComp) and live with the slight hiccup in the minority of the post-processing, so that the majority of the film will look smoother.

Anyway, I can leave the audio alone, since the duration of the video won't be changing, only the frame rate. But the frame numbers for the subtitles won't match my new frame rate. I haven't done subtitles before, and as far as I know I'll be using SubRip and then authoring with DVD Maestro.

What do I have to do to modify the frame numbers from 29.97 to 23.976 in order for the subtitles to be synchronized correctly?

Rip them using subrip to 29.97.
Save the file as srt and close it.
Open it again in subrip, change the fps to 23.976. U ll find the switch to the srt txt window and save again.

Your timecodes should adjust to reflect the speed change

I'm sorry. I can't try this out until I get home, but I don't quite understand. What do I open the file with, SubRip or a text viewer? If that latter, what will adjust the timecodes?
