Hi !

New update V2.1.3.7 is online:
Added experimental AVI support.
Added experimental "Save project" option. This feature will be expanded and "Load project" function will be added.
Project file name may contain spaces now.
Encoder settings are written in the task list too.
Few bugs fixed.

TMPGEnc is on queue.

You might want to check your site with IE. The menu on the left is crashing so the site cannot be browsed.

Will this prog create extremely standart compliant SVCD ?

I hear Nero has problems with that.. i take it this program doesnt ?

BTW cool thing that you're from Israel too =)

migor

Yes, Nero makes troubles for most of people and for me personally too.
I don't use it for SVCD creation.
SVCDbuilder creates standard compliant SVCDs, because it uses well-known VCDimager tool for that. However, important moment for getting good results is properly configured and good mpeg multiplexer. Very good choice is this one from "I-Author Deluxe" package.
All SVCDs (~200), created by me and my friends with SVCDbuilder were played well on "Pioneer" 525, 535, "Rate", "Sonab", "LG", "Toshiba" and few different DVD players.

hay fred,

have you tried lowering your FONT inside IE ??

Sometimes I have to, but I have mine set at a default size of my
own (smaller, for more browser space)

I can see the site very well now. No issues undre IE (using v5)

But I also keep Opera v5 handy close by for those tough areas, like
those that like to crash my IE down.

But, then I'm using Windows 98.

Good luck anyways,

Another question..

Is your tool meant as replacement for DVD2SVCD or does it do other / additional things as well ?

Please explain

Thanks

FredThompson
10th September 2003, 11:20
@vhelp,

The screenshots are placed using absolute positioning. This only works if the default font size in the browser is controlled by the html. In this case, there's no need for the co-ordinates as <br> and <p></p> should be enough.

The visual rollover on the menu doesn't work because it's pointing to "../animate.js". That particular Javascript file needs to be on the site and the path corrected.

That's why the site isn't working properly.

The layout works using Internet Explorer 6 if the font size is set to normal, not any other setting, because of the absolute positioning.

@Venom_IL

I have started this project not as DVD2SVCD replacement or competitor, just for myself. After some time I've published it for others, and now I can see some interest around of this program. It gives me motivation to work on the program and improve it.
The general purpose of SVCDbuilder is not too rich functionality, but quick and easy creation of good-looking SVCDs from good sources. You can create the new project in 2-3 minutes and press "Start".

@FredThompson, @Vhelp

Thanks for your attention and suggestions.
I changed the absolute picture positions to relative and transferred "animate.js" to the site. I hope, it works now?
I'm not too familiar with web authoring, it's my first website.
Thanks again.

FredThompson
10th September 2003, 17:58
cool, thanks

the sphosting version works properly. something isn't proper with the lycos one, the menu isn't working. I can look at it a little later to see if the problem is the code. Maybe the .js file is restricted there?

Thanks again, Fred !
Please, check the Lycos too, it's the main site...
And one more question - what do you think, is it actual to continue work on the batch encoding prog. ?

thank you for your reply, but... err.. this doesn't answer my question :)

suppose im using DVD2SVCD for dvd ripping and AVI2SVCD (without adding external subs).. will i theoretically have a need for your program? not saying any of which is better, im just used to DVD2SVCD already :)

Does your prog allow AVI2SVCD while adding external subs (from an ssa/sub/srt/etc.. file? )

migor

@Venom_IL

I'm not sure I understood your question correctly...
"SVCDbuilder" is a standalone program that, generally, does the same thing that DVD2SVCD does - DVD/AVI to SVCD conversion. It's functionality is not as rich as DVD2SVCD's, but has a different realization and may be useful.
So you can use "SVCDbuilder" as an alternative to DVD2SVCD, and switch between them as you wish.
//External subtitles are currently not supported.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for the program migor, I'm about to try it out.

I can't believe I haven't read this thread before. It's too bad since I've been doing this method manually for years (cut then encode each disc seperately). In fact, the biggest reason I never moved to DVD2SVCD is because it doesn't let you pick your cut points, plus fade in and out and all the good stuff that editing before encoding lets you do.

I'm sure I'll have a bunch of feedback. :)

Wow, great program. The interface is very slick and easy to use. CCE is encoding right now, so I'll use the time to type up my thoughts.

First, let me acknowledge that my system is kept together with duct-tape and glue. I've had many different versions of just about every program installed (and moving to avs 2.5 was probably the worst) so track down problems can be a pain. I'm sure SB works much better on a clean(er) system.

Also, before I begin let me say again how nice a program it is.

Here are the problems I had,

CCE used the default output path, which I have specified in the options. So, after encoding finished, pulldown couldn't find the .mpv files and the rest of the process failed. I changed CCE's output option to "same folder as input file", which I think is what SB expects it to be.

Also, CCE kept change from the default template. I didn't know why but for some reason it kept switching to my third template (which is for hybrid anime and really messes up regular movies). Eventually I figured out that it was trying to create it's own and got it to work, but it took a while.

I had a heck of a time getting the Avs scripts to work because I have Avs 2.52 installed, but some other programs require the YUY2 version of mpeg2dec.dll so that's on my system too. Loadplugin("mpeg2dec.dll") kept trying to load the wrong version of mpeg2dec.dll and I couldn't figure out where it was trying to load it from. I'll save the details unless you want to hear them, but eventually I figured out if I dropped a copy of the mpeg2dec.dll in my CCE dir, Avs would use that copy when CCE tried to open the video.

When extracting Audio to .wav, it seemed to be taking a while. I checked taskman and SB was using 90% CPU while Besweet was only using 10%. Is this normal? I had already created a .wav file manually earlier, so I renamed it, started SB again and let it skip that step.

Setting to CBR mode is lost when changing screens. (defaults back to VBR)

SB said I didn't have enough disk space, but didn't say which disk. The disks with the VOBs and the target dirs (both target dirs were the same) both had over 20GB of space. My system drive, where SB was installed, may have been under 1GB free though.

I had a slight problem setting the cut points. I would click on a frame below to select that cutpoint, then adjust it with the sliders above, but it wouldn't actually change the cutpoint I had selected. Instead, I had to use the two arrow buttons at the bottom, or type the frame numbers in the fields directly. Perhaps I missed an option or something.

Feature requests:

Ability to use second audio channel. (and if possible option to encode it mono, for commentary tracks). ...I just realized CCE is encoding the audio, so a second stream isn't possible.

Option to set encoder priority.

Option to pad end of video and then use mpegstill. For those players that cut off last few seconds of video.

Option to "break on chapter points". This doesn't always make even length discs, but I think it would be a nice option.

Ability to adjust FadeIN and FadeOUT times, per disc.

I'll submit this now, before I accidental close the browser and have to type it all again.:scared: Once the job is done I'll edit in anymore thoughts.

Thanks for the program.

Wes

EDIT: I ran spell check (IEspell) on this post and when the "done click OK" box popped up SB thought that was CCE finishing because it closed the OK box, closed CCE and then started encoding the next disc! I tried IEspell again and the same thing happened.

EDIT2: I didn't set a logo, but didn't uncheck it when going thru the wizard, so xml creation failed because it couldn't find the logo file. I'm trying it again.

EDIT3: Success! It works great. Although I only did the first disc and the image was oversized (80:19.39). Also,I got this error message in the logs:

VIDEO PULLDOWN
File C:\temp\SVCDbuild_temp\core1.mpv found
Pulldown started at 9:53:32 AM
C:\temp\SVCDbuild_temp\core1.mpv corrupted - Pulldown failed !

But there is no error in the task log, and it went on to mux and create the image without any problems.

Also, I'll add one feature request: delete temp files if process is successful.

Thank you very much, wmansir, for this detailed description !

I'll try to answer step by step.

------------------- CCE -----------------------------

Yes, I don't set the output file path in CCE, so "same folder as input file" option is used. I had never

change that option and forgot about it. I don't think, that it's really need, but I'll try to set the output path if this setting exists in the Registry. If it not exists, the task will be more complex - its need to open the dialog window, find the text box and so on...

Template. Yes, SB creates it's own template by name "SVCD" and then always uses this template, making keys changes depend on current encoding parameters. I see that I need to change this name to "SVCDbuilder".

"IESpell". I'll check this issue, maybe it's need to improve CCE's encoding window identification.

------------------ AVS -----------------------------

If the mpeg2dec.dll path is not pointed out in the AVS script, the Avisynth will try to load the DLL from Windows System (32) directory and then (if not found) from the directory, where AVS script file is.

You can put another dll with the same name in any other place and set the path in the AVS script manually. I see that it's need to add an option to the settings dialog for different dlls selection, leaving one regular as default.

------------------ WAV -----------------------------

Oh yeah, I also checked task manager and it shows 100% CPU usage on my (not too powerful) machine !
I'll check, why it happened and repair it. However, it always creates the wav file successfully.

------------------ CBR-VBR -------------------------

"Setting to CBR mode is lost when changing screens. (defaults back to VBR)". Will be repaired, sure thing.

------------------ DISK SPACE ----------------------

It can be my logical mistake here, I'll check it.

------------------ CUT POINTS ----------------------

Yes, you have use the two arrow buttons at the bottom or type frame numbers. Two sliders above are mainly for setting the end of the movie. When the end is set, it's need to click "]" button. The end point will be stored and the movie will be re-splitted. I decided do not use the main slider to set cut points, because it can to confuse.

------------------ LOGO ----------------------------

I know I need to add the checking of files existance, and not only these. Will be done.

------------------ PULLDOWN ------------------------

Very strange, never had this issue, but I'll try to check.

------------------ FEATURES ------------------------

Option to set encoder priority. I'll try

Option to pad end of video and then use mpegstill. For those players that cut off last few seconds of video. Will be done. Currently the padding is implemented, when you select the disc ending with text.

Option to "break on chapter points". This doesn't always make even length discs, but I think it would be a nice option. Please explain this. Is it only change in the xml file?

Ability to adjust FadeIN and FadeOUT times, per disc. Can be done. What you mean - ability to change FadeIN and FadeOUT time for all discs or set it different for each one?

Delete temp files if process is successful. Will be done, and will have settings in "Settings" dialog.

Ability to use second audio channel. It is not the simple task. I don't see, how to do this - the second audio stream must be splitted, like the first, but the first is splitted by "Trim()" function of
Avisynth. It have to be discussed.

Oversized discs. I know, and it's not bad, in my opinion. Slight oversize helps to preserve higher bitrate, that is important for SVCD. I have always approximately 804 MB for the first disc (with LOGO) and 802 MB for the second one, when I-Author muxer is used (I use only this muxer). With other muxers the disc size will be little bigger. But if you want to get not oversized disc, you can select "Custom" from "Disc size" button's menu and decrease the time value on 30-45 second.

I hope I will implement all of the above ASAP. Thanks for the useful feedback!

wmansir

Thanks for your reply. I'll try to clairify some things and add a few thoughts too.

------------------- CCE -----------------------------

Template. Yes, SB creates it's own template by name "SVCD" and then always uses this template, making keys changes depend on current encoding parameters. I see that I need to change this name to "SVCDbuilder".

Actually, the Template wasn’t named “SVCD”, it was named “bebop”. But I don’t think that had anything to do with it. I went into the registry for CCE and switched template order (by renaming the Template folder keys), and it still changed it to the third one (which was #2, the first being #0).

I then noticed that the #2 template was different from the rest in the registry. The Key names were in different order, and there were some missing. So I just Deleted the #2 template to see what would happen, and SB created it’s own, named “SVD” of course.

On the topic of CCE in general, on thing you may want to look into is incorporating EclCCE (check out the CCE forum sticky). It’s a really slick program and allows you to run CCE from a batch file. All your program would have to do is create the .ecl files with all the parameters and then run EclCCE in batch mode to have it encode. Besides some of the smaller details it would take care of (it can set priority of CCE, minimize it to the taskbar, grey out cancel button so the process doesn’t get stopped accidentally, and may fix errors like the IESpell bug and make template creation unnecessary ) using it would mean that you don’t have code to CCE’s GUI and try to manipulate the dialog boxes, which can be different for every version. Instead, you just write a simple text file. It would also make features like, encoding end credits at a lower bitrate, or importing the chapter points in to CCE, easy to implement because EclCCE already has those features.

------------------ FEATURES ------------------------

Option to "break on chapter points". This doesn't always make even length discs, but I think it would be a nice option. Please explain this. Is it only change in the xml file?

What I mean is, when you divide the movie into two or three parts, what if the program looked at the chapter times and tried to put the cut points at chapter points. This isn’t always practical, because there may not be a chapter point within a couple of minutes of were you want to cut the movie. This way your more likely to have a clean break, instead of in the middle of a scene. It's something I think might be useful, but maybe not worth the effort.

Ability to adjust FadeIN and FadeOUT times, per disc. Can be done. What you mean - ability to change FadeIN and FadeOUT time for all discs or set it different for each one?

Optimally, I would be able to set it different for each fade. This is probably because I do everything by hand, and am a control freak, but sometimes I need to FadeIN or FadeOUT quickly or I cut of a line of dialog. This could probably be addressed by allowing editing of the final avs scripts. I know you can view them, but I didn’t check to see if changed were used when encoding.

Ability to use second audio channel. It is not the simple task. I don't see, how to do this - the second audio stream must be splitted, like the first, but the first is splitted by "Trim()" function of
Avisynth. It have to be discussed.

When I do encoding manually I extract the .wav tracks from the .avs files and then encode them to .mp2 with besweet. For a second audio track I just create a second set of .avs files, identical to the first except for using the second sound track for an audio source. Then repeat the first steps.

I have yet to find a simple command line program that can extract a .wav from a .avs, so I have a system using win32 perl script to create a batch file for virtualdub, and then the script executes vdub to extracts the audio in batch mode. I know there is a simpler method out there, but I’m still looking for it.

Another option is to have TMPGenc encode the audio. I know you mentioned you are working on supporting TMPGenc for encoding, so it could work out well. TMPGenc can accept .avs input for .mpa or mp2 encoding so it would be simple to execute once TMPGenc support was up and running.

Another audio related development you might want to keep an eye on is Avisynth’s developing ability to open AC3 tracks directly, which would save the step of creating a .wav file for the whole movie. The latest 2.5 beta works, with AC3Filter installed, but it still has some issues. It’s not quite there yet, but it’s something to look forward to.

Thanks!

----------- Break on chapter points ---------------

Currently, if the last disc chapter's length is less then 1 minute, this chapter point is not created, so it can't be the cut points and chapter points at the same place.

----------- FadeIN and FadeOUT time ---------------

I'll think how to do it better.

----------- Script -------------------

When AVS script can be edited and the changes are not saved - it is my mistake, it worked earlier, and I'll repair it.

----------- CCE ----------------------

I don't want to use an additional programs like EclCCE, I beleive I can solve problems in the existing code. I know, that it's need to rewiev the template creation and make it more reliable. In my opinion, ecl files usage is not better way, they changes from version to version too, require exact count of frames to be encoded... I used ecls in the first versions of "SVCDbuilder-1" and then passed to the Registry. So, I will improve CCE handling, like other things.
BTW - why you don't pass to "ProCoder" - it brings much better quality even on very low bitrates, when CCE produces only blocks and noise ?

----------- Audio --------------------

I know about ac3source.dll, and it works instead of WAVsource, but it has no downmix to DolbySurround II or even DolbySurround. When it will have these features, it will be great and useful.
Other audio-related changes can be made, of course, but it requires significant changes in the program, so I will work on it later, when all other issues will be solved.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I see that Procoder is getting high praise in this thread, and you recommend it highly, so I will give it a try. I've been using CCE for so long, and I know the program so well, that I'm reluctant to give it up. Also, I have read that procoder can soften the image too much, which can really be a problem since SVCD/VCD resolution is low already. But I'll give it a shot.

I'm encoding some interlaced DVD material right now, and I read Procoder is very good at interlaced material, so this seems like a good test (along with some progresive DVD material, which is what I mostly see).

@wmansir

I hope, that you will be satisfied with ProCoder test results. But if you will test it with SB, don't forget to set ProCoder's GlobalOutputPath to your OutputDirectory (First), it's written in the users guide of the website.
And I would like to ask you: I don't want to publish too many updates on the site, so if you will agree, I can send you new updates with few changes and with list of changes for testing before publishing. If you want it, drop e-mail to me.

Let me remind you that ac3source downmixes incorrectly. Since the source is not available (and MarcFD is gone), it is not developed anymore.

Hello,

I just wanted to bump this tread to let people know that a new version (2.2.0.10) has been released on http://svcdbuilder.vze.com/ .

Here's the changelog for 2.2.0.9 which had all the major changes listed since 2.2.0.4. 2.2.0.10 is almost identical to this.

V2.2.0.9
Added "Load project" option.
Added checking of the supported programs and file existence.
Added automatic setup of ProCoder's output path.
Added automatic setup of CCE's output path.
Added checking of the encoded files' sizes and comparison with the calculated sizes.
Added ability to delete the intermediate files. (New "Disk space" tab in "Settings" dialog)
The files will be deleted only if their sizes will differ by less than 1% from calculated.
Added calculation of the approximate maximal disk space required. ("Disk space" tab)
Added default discs' overlap settings. ("Misc" tab)
Added default discs' FadeIn and FadeOUT settings. ("Misc" tab)
Added ability to set the maximal TOTAL bitrate (audio + video).
Added ability to adjust FadeIN and FadeOUT duration, per disc.
Left click on the blue/black bar to toggle fading on/off
Right click to view fading settings (then Enter = OK, ESC = Cancel)
Added processes' priorities' settings. Encoder priority can be changed even while encoding.
Added "Pause before encoding" feature.
Added "Show hints" menu item - in order to enable/disable mouse hints.
Added "First disk number" and "Volumes" edit boxes to "Authoring" page -
it can be useful, if the album has more than 3 discs (series).

Mouse hints were changed and new were added.
Menu item "Options" renamed to "Disc ending style".
"bbMUX" multiplexer support is temporarily disabled.
Implemented project file name length check.
CCE's "Cancel" button is hidden while encoding.
New messages added to the log.
Few less important changes.

Fixed bugs in XML creation.
Fixed bugs in chapters' creation.
Fixed bug: setting "include-exclude Logo" was not saved.
Fixed bug: CCE encode window could be closed, if an external application was running.
Fixed bug: video bitrate mode setting was lost when changing screens.
Fixed bug: AVS script could be edited and the changes were not saved.

I've been beta testing with migor and I have to say the program has improved quite a bit. It has more features, it's easier to use and is more reliable than the previous version.

Lo all

ok
i
have

been trying to use this proggy for a couple of days now with no good results...............

i was using latest Beta so i think this may have been a problem.

i have now gone back to using 2.2.0.10.

the problems i encounted with the Beta vesrion were as follows.

.mpa files could not be found by SVCDBUILDER!
File E:\MINI-DVD\STEP 1\PLAGUE_DOGS1.mpa not found!

so it tried to carry on and mux.......but of course multiplexing failed.

E:\MINI-DVD\STEP 1\PLAGUE_DOGS1.xml corrupted - Disc image creation failed !

when i previewed the mpv file in VLC media player it had encoded it ok....but it was in a small box in centre of screen!!!!

even tho i chose 4:3 input resized to SVCD...any ideas?

as i said before i have now removed latest beta exe and deleted old config file...relaced with last stable release.
i will let you know how i get on.

What converts the wav to mpa?

do i need to set up CCE by hand?

normally i don't use CCE to encode audio as i have heard its prone to crashing.....i am using CCE 2.50 is this supported BTW?

thanks for your time and trouble and i hope i get proggy working ok now as it seems a simpler alternative to dvd2svcd but achieving the same quality.

thanks

is this program still supported?

@KYUSS

I don't think that there is any difference between Beta ans SB22010 in the way of CCE management. It's interesting, where is your *.mpa file, it should be in the First output dir, with *.mpv.
Did you have "Encode audio" checked? If positive, it may be the CCE 2.5 related bug, but only on few %.
Wrong resize - it shouldn't be, of course, and I'm sure that the avs script was created well. You can play it in the SB previewer and in WMP, you can load it to the encoder manually and try to encode.
So, I think that it may be the same CCE2.5 related bug, as written above.
For the long time I don't use CCE2.5 - only ProCoder and seldom CCE 2.67.10 - so I can't check this issue right now, because CCE2.5 is not installed on my PC. However, I'll do it and will repair the bug, if it is.
For now, at least until the bug is found, I would like to suggest you to use CCE2.67.10 or better, ProCoder.

Second part of your question:
Audio (wav in the case of DVDrip) is encoded by the video encoder - it gets video and audio output from Avisynth.
You don't need to set up CCE manually, but now I can't be sure if that's right in the case of CCE 2.5
Both encoders - CCE and ProCoder produce the good quality audio without any problem. The exception - as you have heard - is CCE, but ONLY CCE 2.5 ON AMD MACHINES - it has the AMD-related bug and crashes, when you try to encode audio. And this is written on the Custom Technology website too.

One request: if a problem is encountered, please, send me all log files, SB's ini file and xml, if related.

thanks fot the reply m8,

i am currently trying it now with CCE 2.67.00.23,

i will let you know how i get on.

i am encoding using cbr method for speed but if its successful i will use vbr mode always.

i will post logs/tacks and xml here if it fails.

Ok, KYUSS.
It will be better to try with very short fragments of 100-200 frames only to make sure that all files were found, all processes were completed and the mpv is good.
Also, the good way is to check "Pause before encoding", then, when CCE is loded, to check all it's setting and click "Encode" after that !

@KYUSS

I see, that CCE can't get settings, and your files were encoded with default CBR 6000 kbps. I know, that in some cases it happens, and I must review the CCE handling and do it better, but I worked on other things. Now I'm beginning to do this, and it will take few days. If you are interested in the results and can help me with it - write me to my e-mail, you can find the address in the SB's "About" box.

I love this program, very easy to use. I have one huge problem. I have tried three DVD to SVCD with this program. All three of them the second CD and movie file the audio is out of sync. First CD and movie file is in sync. Any recommendations?

Never had this problem with DVD rip conversion. It happens sometimes with DivX sources, when the audio is MP3 VBR, but it can be solved in most cases.
Please, let me know about some details: TV format, framerate etc... , which muxer do you use...
Send me your project (spr) file by e-mail, it will be the best info.

Thanks for the quick reply migor. All three were DVD rip conversion.

I will email the project file too. I'm sure it is just user error on my part.
