I have strange problem. After ripping and demuxing with robot4rip finally i had d2v and when i try to open it with GKnot i got this hated message - file is not valid dvd2avi prject (v. 1.76). After that i add my m2v files in DVD2AVI which I use via GKnot and in the end I have d2v wich i can open with Gknot just fine.
First d2v file is playable in WMP 6.4.3.1

i never really found out what causes this, but usually it's a temporary problem and you probably never face it again. this has happend before r4r existed so i'm almost certain that it has nothing to do with r4r.

@CaPPyD: thanx, will be corrected.

how about extending r4r to add capability to rip using chapters?

It'll be great for anime lovers. :)

comments about robot4rip

1) good job at automation!

2) why must r4r put "_" when I distinctly type " "?

3) can you highlight the icon in the workflow that is currently being processed?

4) robot4rip besweet usage isn't working although oggmachine works fine, see log below

Wouldn't it be better to use the azid parameter when encoding the audio instead of -boost? Not sure if this is a better option, but this is the recommended setting for oggmachine...

E.g
-azid( -g 0.97 -L -3db -c normal -s surround )

However, if you let dvd decryptor demux the audio, when you load the demuxed track into ogg machine the azid paramter disappears. Any idea why?
Cheers

Noticed a slight problem -

Unless "demux" option is ticked under the PGC tab, dvd decrypter disables stream processing. Shouldn't you leave this on so that it only keeps the audio tracks you specify in the audio tracks box (without demuxing them)? I think this will be more convinient as it allows the user to discard unwanted audio tracks during the ripping process and retains the vobs properly (no converting to m2v, allows demuxing in dvd2avi etc...)

Hi wef! r4r seems quite nice! However i got a problem. No matter what, when i get the subtitles done with it, i get an empty .sub file (0kb).
The weird thing is that if i extract them with vobsub (not inside r4r) they can be extracted with no problem at all!
Any suggestions???

@BluDChyLD: The demux option is on by default so I don't see the problem. When you do subs there's a limitation in VobSub preventing stream demuxing, VobSub requires a VOB to properly extract subtitles and this is why selecting subs automatically disables the option (it shouldn't be disabled in the settings though, it doesn't change that value).

Personally, I prefer the added flexibility of demuxing with dvd2avi instead of letting the ripper do it. Also, oggmachine seems to treat audio streams differently if the ripper demuxes them (the azid parameter disappears).

IMO, it's a more practical approach to allows stream processing without demuxing providing subtitles are not being used, so you can save a little hd space and use the best demuxing method aswell :)

Once I got robot4rip configured to my liking, it does exact same thing I would manually do yet does it faster. This is an awesome timesaver. Thanks yall

Here is my benchmark using The Freshman R1 on a 2.26 P4 and Liteon 163d DVD-ROM. How fast does it work for you?

aeh... you manually selected the 1st PGC, which is less than 2 minutes long (and maybe does not contain a single subtitle bitmap).
leave the main movie pgc selected (pgc2) and try again - i can see no error.

It atually has subtitles if i rip it manually with vobsub.
The thing that may be to blame is that if i choose subrip to extract subtitles, stream 00 (greek) contains no subtitles. However if I choose 01 or 02 (both greek too), subs are extracted normally. So maybe r4r choose the first subtitle stream only that contains no subs actually.
I tried to change the filenames within dvd decrypter so that both .ifo and .vob have the same name (not the pgc numbers) as vobsub's readme suggests, but nothing happened.

I have tried the pgc 2 but the same thing happened. I ll do a test again however.

ok here's my problem. i was trying to rip the DVD (DVD 5) Last man standing. it pretty much worked perfectly except that r4r somehow renamed the vobs as follows:
vts_01.vob ... should be vts_01_1.vob
vts_01_1.vob ... should be vts_01_2.vob
vts_01_2.vob ... etc
vts_01_3.vob ... etc

the dvd is very simple, only one PGC no other vob files...
when i load the dvd2avi project into gknot the first 30 minutes are missing... the same happened to the mp3 file and the ac3 file.
when i rip the DVD with dvddecrypter or smartripper it works completely normal

anyway here's my log file:

@killingspree: if you like dvddecrypter (I do), just use that with r4r. It supports it! I recommend opening dvddecrypter and choosing the options you want first. For example, I have it rip to just one big M2V file.

hi steve!

i had a look at this and have to confirm that there is a bug in picking up the vobs produced by vstrip. dvd2avi is not fed with the first vob.

thanx for reporting!

i really wonder how nobody noticed before?

atm please do NOT use vstrip ripping in r4r - bugfix will be available soon!

EDIT: v0.4 is out, problem is fixed.

Thank you for this great tool!

It works quite well and replaces some of my scripts I'm using. Especially the queuing of the Rips is great. this way i can set up all the Specials on the DVD as well. It's also great for ripping TV-Shows.

Here are some wishes for improvement:

I wish a possibility to delete jobs (queues) or maybe even edit them.

When I select a PGC, it would be nice if it could be selected the whole time, i.e. when i edit the audio encoding, change the project name or similar. This way I wouldn't get confused which PGC I'm currently editing. Right now, if the focus is stolen the selection is also not visible.

I miss an option to restore the default folders in the Preferences. It would also be great to be able to create profiles for the folders, since I need different styles for Tv-Show DVDs and Movie-DVDs.

Could you maybe also add a additional variable %MovieName% accessable from the gui? I want to use it for naming the Specials for Example. So the Project name would be the top folder, but each PGC could have its own name, like Specials1, Specials2 and so on.
The way it is right now, I use the Project name to name those files and go to the preferences for each DVD to change the top-folder in all three slots.

Sometimes the audiostreams have specials names like "English - Additional Director's Comments". It would be nice, if that could also be shown in the encoded audiofile. Right now it only shows "English" even though it is shown in the stream information file.

Is it possible to have a different audio-profile based on the channels of the ac3? I couldn't find out how to do that. I usually want all 6 channel streams to be encoded with ogg0.200 and all 2 channel streams (mostly specials and comments) with ogg0.00. But it only selects either the 6 channels or the 2 channels.

That all i can think of right now. Setting up Gknot is really fast, so I don't miss that. Thanks again.

thanks... i've done it manually in the meantime. it worked perfectly (:
oh and i didn't select vstrip manually in r4r it somehow chose it automatically
i'm going to download the new release right now (:

@Emp3r0r: i've been using dvddecrypter for quite a while now but i like the automation r4r gives me (to be able to just hit "go" and come back half an hour later and find a ready to go dvd2avi project and also my audio done!

I love r4r! Its an absolute timesaver and I think this program brings DivX conversion to a stage where my Nan could do it!

I have one small problem and one question as well.

I ripped to an ISO image with r4r 0.2 but now I cant seem to delete the ISO. Everytime I try to delete I get a dialog box saying Windows cannot delete as this is being used by another person or program. Ive been trying for a week to try to delete it but no luck..pls help!

Also, whats the best way to uninstall r4r?

Thanks.

Hi.

If you are using Daemon Tools, make sure you have unloaded the ISO image from your virtual drive. If you have not, you can't delete the image.

Hi R4R lovers,

Please test my batch tool for XVID encoding and OGG muxing within R4R in this thread:

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51228

And give some feedback, or modify it to your needs and post it :)

all r4r settings are stored in robot4dub.ini, r4r does not write in the registry or anywhere else.
so just delete the files and you are done.

yea, because dvddecrypter can rip directly from dvd only, not from harddisk - that's what vstrip is needed for.

Hi,
I'm having problems using a Harddisk copy of the DVD as source. I've ripped them using R4R and dvddecrypter's Full Copy mode.
However now when I choose Scan Folder it finds the files alright, a PGC is selected as well, however the green arrow on the very right is grayed out.
Am I doing something wrong ?

On a manual DVD Decrypter rip, after selecting Tools -> Settings -> IFO Mode -> Stream Information i get a file like VTS_01 - Stream Information.txt, with this kind of info about the Aspect Ratio:

0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 720x576 (PAL) / 4:3 / LBA: 1 / PTS: 00:00:00.159 / Delay: 0ms

or

0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 720x576 (PAL) / 16:9 / Letterboxed / LBA: 3649 / PTS: 00:00:00.132 / Delay: 0ms

But that's on a manual rip, R4R with the DVD2SVCD internal routines doesn't do it.

I would like to use this sort of info on R4R_ENC, but DVD Decrypter has no command line switch for this. Also it seems that the DAR flag in the IFO is sometimes wrong, that's why DVD2SVCD seems to do analysis through BBmpeg Tools.

After reading DVD2SVCD Official FAQ , Q11

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21859

I'm wondering if this is possible with any tools already available on R4R

Best regards

Me too even a quarter an hour later! And it seems you don't understand r4r can use dvddecrypter.

It does create the file if selected at IFO mode, but I missed it :D

Hello, I´m a newbie.
Why does r4r do a pgc rip after making an iso image (or full copy) of the dvd? This nearly duplicates the amount of space needed on the hard drive. Can´t dvd2avi use the original vobs as input as I believe was described in the old dvd2avi guide?
Thanks in advance,

Loni Blues

you can tell r4r that it should not do an iso copy first. unfortunately i'm not at home right now so i can't tell you where exactly you find it. somewhere in the preferences menu.

Thanks killingspree.

May be I did not express my doubt correctly, but what I wonder is why the PGC Rip step is necessary. I believe the old dvd2avi guide said you had to load the vobs from the full copy of the DVD as input for dvd2avi and said nothing about a PGC Ripping step. My question really is: can´t you omit the PGC Rip step and use the full copy VOBs as input for the dvd2avi step, instead? If there is any, what is the problem if I omit the PGC Rip? May be I should ask TheWEF since he is the one who wrote r4r.

As far as I know, DVD2AVI requires a single angle/single pgc video stream, so an ifo parsing pgc rip is required.

TheWEF
4th June 2003, 23:52
you can omit the PGC Rip, but obviously only if the original vobs contain 1 pgc and 1 angle only. otherwise you get a mess. to save hd-space you can always omit the full rip though.

It might be nice to have an option to pull up besweet-gui for controlling audio encoding and profiles. I realize, the current method is a little more general cause you can use anything, but most of the time most of us will be using besweet anyway. My method is to open besweet-gui, configure it, and drag and drop the command line options.. granted then I can save that profile permanently, but still... kinda would be cooler if I could click a button and just have besweet-gui pop up, would make it easier for novices to congfigure too. Then again maybe anyone who knows enough to want custom parameters isn't a novice anyway. Just a thought...

Anyway.. nice program, should save me at a least a couple of minutes of trouble on my encodes.

Hi,

First of all thanking TheWEF for this great program. Really usefull indeed!!

The problem I've found with it is that it seems that when it tries to run vobsub, it sends and incorrect command to Win98SE (I know, a pocket calculator OS, but great for those old pocket calculator games I love so much:)).

I found that, at least in my case (perhaps ExSport or somebody else running Win98SE could also check it), where now reads (notice the space before the comma)
rundll32 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VobSub.dll ,Configure

it sould be (no space between 'dll' and ','):
rundll32 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VobSub.dll,Configure

If you had this into account in future versions of r4r you would have my endless gratitudes.

Thank you again for your program and best regards,

Atom
