No, your blueness. I too am splitting. I don't always. I do it when a) the movie (i.e., its image quality) is important: classics, etc; or b) when the movie is so large that a reducer like DVDshrink requires significant (i.e. greater than 10%) compression. I'm looking at Harry Chamber Potter now; it's huge (@ 7gb). Split me, o master splitter.

Harry Potter & The Chamber of Secrets. Easy. Split where ifoedit tells you to, ...

Just out of curiosity, with the current version of IFOedit, the default split selection is at Ch 19, cell 20. Why leave it there, rather than move it to the 20/21 split? This fits better with the scene selection layout (groups: 17-20, 21-24).

BTW, I made a few 2COOL type menu mods in my split, for proper functioning. If anyone is interested, PM me, and I'll post them.

No reason why, I just left it where ifoedit chose (I think...I don't remember). Yours probably was a better spot. I probably didn't check where the split was in the movie.

Well, I'm about 20 minutes into Jurassic Park 1 disc 1 and no pauses yet. We'll see how the rest of the movie comes out though, I don't remember where the pauses were when splitting it with ifoedit. Anyway, backed up complete movie using dvdfab 0.17, complete movie option. If the whole movie comes out ok I will edite this. Note, I did get this movie backed up already with ifoedit stripping out all extras and menus with no pauses and then splitting the stripped movie, but I want to try and do it and keep everything.

Here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59591) is a technique I used to 'split' the Moulin Rouge extras disc-- a whoppoing 7.87 GB of extras that I wished to not degrade by re-encoding. I have been using DVDFab lately, but as explained in the post, that program produced errors here. I am confident DVDFab will work for the main movie disc, but have not done it yet (save the easiest for last).
UPDATE: DVDFab split the main movie w/o problem. The program placed extras and chap 1-14 on disc one. The only problem I encountered thus far was that at some point in disc 2, my standalone player suddenly was showing subtitles at a chapter change. I used the remoted to switch the subtititle mode off and this did not happen the rest of the film. The only thing I would like to see added to a program like DVDFab is the inclusion of menus appropriate to the content of the given disc. In this example (disc 2) it would be nice to see the chapter menu, which would display the 'insert disc 1' graphic for any chapters not on disc 2. This happens on disc 1 which includes all menus. Important features, such as accessing audio commentary, are realized by using buttons on the remote. It is easy to switch between audio streams in this way.

I'm pretty much using dvdfab now to split my movies.
Dare Devil, copy complete movie with dvdfab.
Twister, same. Actually Twister could have fit the movie only on 1 dvd with Dolby 5.1, but to keep DTS it requires splitting. I split it to keep DTS.

All these are R1

Hulk (easy), but problems with special features...I think this was a 2 disk DVD, and I didn't do the second one, can't remember....Movie plays ok though

Italian Job
SeaBiscuit (easy)
Equillibrium
Bend it like Beckham
Life of David Gale
Daredevil
Basic
Matrix Reloaded
Wrong Turn
Narc
Secretary
StarTrek Nemesis
Identity
Dark Blue
Final Destination 2
Old School (on disk 2 have to do chapter selection)

On some of these, you have to go to Chapter 1 to get it to play, instead of just hitting the play button....

Sorry if there's any dups to the existing list.........z

Hi zardiw the wizard!

Just curious why you had DareDevil on your list? Did the R1 version have widescreen and fullscreen? Well, mine did. Why did you prefer to split it instead of elminating the other version?

I split mine too, don't remember why. Maybe for the extras? Not sure...
I've split a ton of movies but haven't posted any for a while. Off the top of my head...

Pirates of the Caribbean - R1, Use ifoedit to split movie. Copy all other files that ifoedit doesn't copy to both folders.
Smallville Episode Season 1 Disc - R1, ifoedit. Movie only with ifoedit, don't split and do strip streams. If you split you get episode 1 and 3 on disc 1, and disc 2 is messed up. This way you get 1 & 2 on one disc, and 3 & 4 on the second. Strip vobids for PGC 3 & 4 on for first disc to get episodes 1 & 2, Vobids for PGC 5 and 6 for 2nd disc for episodes 3 & 4.
The Jungle Book (Non-animated) - R1, dvdfab
Titanic - R1, dvdfab
Mission to Mars - R1, dvdfab
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - R1, dvdfab
X2 - R1, dvdfab
Indiana Jones Trilogy - R1, dvdfab

Recently, I've been splitting my, over 7GB, DVDs with putting only the menu and movie only on Disk 1 and menu and extras on the other. If the movie was too big then I would transcode. I'd say the most compression I would've done was 20%. With using DVD Shrink's Deep Analysis, it's no problem to my eyes.

So doing it this way, I don't have to change out the DVD to continue play on other half. It was logical for me to try to keep movie and extras separate. I even have my Special Features menu as my start menu displaying instead of main menu for my second disk. All buttons pertaining to other menus (audio, subtitles, chapters, main) were disable through MenuEdit. Pressing Root or Title button always brings me back to my Special Features menu. ;)

Yeah, that's another good way to fo it, it just takes a little more time and work. :)

Hey all. Been awhile...lol. Forget why I split Daredevil....but it must not have fit on one disk..

Secretary and WrongTurn fit on one disk though.

Trying to split Carribean Pirates....at PGC27...blew up IfoEdit. Also, it puts it all on Disk1 and just a few files on Disk2....any ideas??...Using v0.95...z

I've been taking a similar approach myself -- movies only, extras only. Works great. I'd love to see some tips about the menu mods you mention for the extras-only disk, 2COOL. Are they written up in one of your posts somewhere? Couldn't find them.

KUDOS!

UPDATE: Nevermind. Found it HERE (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45274). 2COOL guide, amigo.

Anybody know how/where to split this one? I get everything on disk1, and only 2 files on disk 2.........z

Occasionally there are still tough movies to split out there, though they are much fewer with the newer programs out. If people wouldn't mind posting how they did them here that would be great.

I posted how to do Pirates of the Caribbean and LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring Extended Version here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=66095&perpage=20&pagenumber=2

The way I did LOTR may have worked for Pirates too, I didn't try that. Never thought the video_ts files could have been the culprit.
Hey Z, I don't know why Pirates worked for me with ifoedit and not you... maybe because I used ifoedit .96? I have no idea. Remeber when splitting with ifoedit you have to copy over all the other files too that ifoedit doesn't copy. If ifoedit doesn't work try doing the full movie option with dvdfab and copying over the 3 video_ts files from the full movie ripped to the hard drive with dvddecryptor.

Hey Josh...long time...I got it to work finally by using the default split point IfoEdit came up with....I was picking my own split point before, but that didn't work with POC.....z

Cool, that must have been the trick ;) .
