@dolemite: good job, with the newest update i can finally open a .d2v file no problem. I started taking a look at the crop plugin and it can't find the namespace DVX or DVX.OOP, where are these libraries?

DVX.OOP is a module, I called it OOP because some people say using modules is bad programming style :D . Everything in a module is global. Unlike C# VB can import Modules/Classes, C# can only import (using) namespaces. You need to put a reference to the DVX assembly to use the types defined in there like you know but VisualStudio don't allow this but notepad does :D , Visualtudio allows only dll file extension for assemblys to be referenced. Anyway the crop plugin is not updated to DirectShow and don't work in RC 32 and there seem to be a compatibility problem with w2k and maybe w9x with the new DirectShow code

That's what I get when trying to open a .d2v file...

which DX Version and which Windows version do you use?

Windows XP Professional SP1 with latest post SP1 patches, DVX Version the one you just released!
I must also note, that after this message, I hit OK and nothing happens(windows dissapears). I then hit the preview button, the same error appears, I hit OK and the Preview Window finaly appears. But there are still problems.

we have similar systems , jernst has the same problem, I hope he can help me to debug it

google showed the following:

0x80040216 IMAPI_E_INITIALIZE_ENDWRITE HRESULT: VFW_E_NOT_FOUND - Description: An object or name was not found.

you could help me by posting the filter graph of graph edit for avs files, you can save it in xml format, maybe it has something to do with the filters

Good Stuff,
Thanks Dolemite

Hakko:
A combination I've found very useful is GKnot and DivX5Enc.

How?

And did anyone reply to the question I found in this thread - is it ok to have both GK and DVX installed?

What's the advantage of muxing with VirtualDubMod rather than NanDub, and where do you do the audio encoding?

Audio encoding: BeSweet (if I transcode the audio at all, I keep the AC3 audio most of the time nowadays.)

VDM vs Nandub: Well, I haven't had any real problems with nandub, but there are a few minor errors in both AC3 and MP3 muxing in nandub which have been corrected. Synch is slightly better if I use VDM. 9 times out of 10 there is no problems with either proggie, but if there is a problem, it is likely to be a smaller problem if I use VDM. Only way of making sure there is no audio synch problems is to use CBR audio.

Hakko, what do you do with the credits tail encoding and merging?

hakko504

1-pass QB with Q=12 usually. Mux at the same time as I add audio.

Sorry about all these questions, Hakko, but let me just get this straight: First you open a d2v or avi or avs with say segmented avi's as a project in GKnot.

Then you make the xxxx.avs script and the xxxx_Credits.avs script in GKnot and read them with Divx 5 Enc?

And what about subtitles?

I do tend to make sure the subtitles are added quite early in the script, after deinterlacing/IVTC but before cropping/resizing. I've found that to be the best way of putting them in the right place in the final video.

Tusen takk - I'll try all that when I'm home from work.

This certainly is a very interesting thread ... I believe that GKnot and DVX are both excellent programs supported by knowledgeable groups.

I've used GKnot 0.2x for well over a year, and have made hundreds of encodes. I've been trying out DVX for the last month and a half or so, with around 40 encodes.

All things considered, I think that (currently, at least) I have no choice but to stick with Gordian Knot, simply because I and a few others have consistent audio sync problems with DVX, under a variety of conditions. (see http://www.planetdvb.net/board/index.php?act=ST&f=22&t=187& and http://www.planetdvb.net/board/index.php?act=ST&f=22&t=301&). While I'm positive Dolemite et al. will eventually figure it out, I'm definitely a bastard when it comes to waiting. :p

I really do love DVX's user interface, especially the AVIscript editor window - I love to be able to scroll through all the plugins, and click on which variables I want - idiot proof!

However, I really am amazed at which the GKnot developers (i.e., len0x) has been quickly adding features to the GKnot 0.28 alpha versions. Already, it works with AVIsynth 2.5.1, DivX 5.0.3/5.0.4, VDubMod, and Xvid! Wow! And it looks like some great work is being done on the installers programs as well. At this rate, in the next month or so, GKnot will be able to sing, dance, and tell jokes while ripping. :) Honestly, I've reported a bug to len0x and had a new alpha release that fixed it in under a quarter of a day! Holy smokes.

Really, I think both these programs have a lot of great potential in them... I remind all to check out DVX's message board (http://www.planetdvb.net/board/) as well as the GKnot development forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=70). [Remember though, alpha releases tend not to be for newbies!] Whichever program you use, remember to be appreciative of the people who take the time out of their day to create these programs and share them with us.

Thanks WEF, len0x, and Dolomite! (And DSPguru too, of course!) And all the avisynth people... and VDub and VDubMod people... and the guys who make terrific filters (TomsMoComp!).... etc.etc.etc.

I'm a huge flip-flopper, but right now I'm with DVX. I like the way it auto-updates progs, and the one-button encode plugin sounds good! I just had too much trouble with the alpha versions of GKnot. I'll check back with them again once 0.28 is final. My next project is to check out RV9 and see how that goes.

great isn't it? nothing like a bit of healthy competition.

it's a race to see who can get to final status first! woo!

Nah, it's not a race of time, but a race of coolness. :)

Regarding time, BOTH teams turn around bug fixes pretty darn fast, IMO.

@dolemite
What are your future big plans for DVX?

stax76

the updater will be completely redesigned, by default there will be much more automation because people love one click tools, migrating to VirtualDubMod 1.5.x (not public yet) will require big changes because almost every script function has changed, there are quite a few other things on the to do list, will probably take some time...

I don't think it is a competition really :)
I'm in a hurry, coz I'm going on holidays soon, and want to be done with 0.28 final before that... But once we have team organized - development will be even faster (I already have offers from quite a few people willing to help...)

i wasn't trying to stir up sh!t ;), i just think it's great that so many people are prepared to put their own time and effort in for no reward except thanks from grateful users.

keep it up everyone!

Story: how I started coding for GK :)

I was using GK for about 1,5 years while it was developing very nicely.
But recenly not having new codecs support I started looking around and found DVX. I was struggling with it for a while (actually to be honest I was struggling with .NET) but I'd end up using it anyway...

One day I decided to submit a request at DVX board - I really mised smartcrop feature of GK in DVX. So i did. But unfortunately ppl there including Dolemite thought that it's not important (with what I agree), but that somehow turned me off a bit (my programming policy usually - if it's very simple thing to do, then as a programmer I don't care if it's important or not, I can just do it and make someone happy :) ) At the same time I got GK sources and found out that they are in Delphi, in which I was programming around 3 years ago, but I managed to remember everything perfectly. That's how its all started! :)

So, thanks Dolemite! - if it wasn't for you, users would probably not see new GK version as soon as now... (eventually, of cource - it's just I came along at the right moment with the right desire...)

I had a lot to do with adding important features like Ogg Vorbis, OGM, XviD and cutting, especially cutting took a lot time because almost every function is affected somehow. All this is working now so I have more time to add less important features like smart crop. I plan to add it soon

No worries, man - I understand.
I just got the impression like "won't do it" rather than "do it later" :)
