Allow me to say that this kind of poll is some kind of "auto troll machine", a perfect way to start the old "pirate" against "legal users" war.
Why would anybody care about why people want to rip DVDs ? I certainly don't. If I were a pirate I wouldn't better or worse just by knowing that I'm obviously not the only one. And if I am a legal user, I don't care about it either.

This is just bringing flame war for nothing. At least this should be moved to "general discussion" (or create a new forum "pointless discussion").

I'm ripping DVDs because my wife won't have sex for hours every evening like I'd like to. So I had to find a hobby :D

Waldok,

Didn't I tell you to rip a few romance DVDs once in a while?:p Better cut down on the action DVDs. ;)

Start with ripping XXX, and not the Vin Diesel movie!

I'm in agreement here, I find these discussions pointless. Not pointless in the sense that valid issues are not raised, but pointless because opinions will not be changed. But as long as a flame war does not break out moving or removing this thread would only be perceived as censorship.

I'd like to add my two cents to this wonderfully entertaining thread if I may.
A clear argument rages about the huge studios ripping off the consumer with high price dvd's.
One might argue that in this day of greed this isn't exactly going against the grain in today's world, and it could be argued they are simply demanding *their* slice of this big fat money cake.
It's of no doubt to me the only way to combat this spiralling problem of piracy is to reduce prices to an acceptable, reasonable level.
Someone raised a point about dvd's being cheaper to make than vhs, which in turn are cheaper to buy on the high street than dvd's.
This may or may not be true but the studio's would have us believe we dvd buyers are paying for special scenes, the extra's, the three different endings and the clip of the lead actor falling over and getting a laugh.
Rubbish in my opinion but there you go.
It may also be the case that studio's are now requesting budgets from fundraisers on the basis of anticipated *total* revenue, rather than just box office sales whichI envisage is by no means the largest income for a movie nowadays. The argument therefore that studio's have already earned their money from the box office and are being greedy charging £20 for a 4 disk LORT dvd is fundermentally flawed, in my opinion.
I had to laugh at the comment someone made about the crimimals making software to illegal copy movies and then whinging about people cracking it!
Good point and whilst I don't agree with it entirely (as there are clearly some of us using this software for legitimate use), excellent polls such as this only demonstrates the main use of it.
Finally ask yourself this question...
...you winge about the price of dvd's, the exhorbitent fees charged for dvd's yet you still pay your £500.00 a year for your season ticket at your local footie (soccer) team, you still pay your £40 a month for satellite tv who are in turn funding sportsmen to the tune of £80k a week earnings, so where's the difference?
Why support one disgraceful state of greed and proclaim to be the victim on another?
Just my ha-penny (if you're my generation in the UK) :)

This thread is just getting silly. It started out as a good old winge up and now its just got silly (Monty Python fans note)

Will makes some good points and I agree that reduced prices are the way to go from the consumers perspective. However there is a basic economic rule that prices find an equilibrium with the market they exist in. The fact that not many Film distributors and associated partners go out of business proves there is plenty of fat in the current pricing, and hey they have good old Treasure Isalnd (UK) where consumers seem happy to pay ANYTHING for ANYTHING!

The only way of ending this argument would be to have access to the detailed accounts of one of the majors and PROVE that the piracy story is false - not going to happen.

By the way Will - not everyone in the UK is a brain dead football fanatic, I HATE the stupid game and all it stands for but your point is totally valid. However I, and am sure many others are FED UP with this and all the other blatant rip offs taking place in this so called developed country and have immense satisfaction at being able to give the finger to these greedy, corrupt, hypocritical, arrogant sons of bitches however and whenever the opportunity arriaes.

2cool and Int21h,

Thanks for the hints ! Men, what a night in perspective ;-)

mpucoder,

I don't ask for this thread to be removed in any case. I just meant that, as you correctly pointed it out, people won't change their mind with one additional endless discussion on the eternal same subject. Besides, moving the thread to General Discussion would seem appropriate and could hardly be seen as censorship since this thread does not deal at all with DVD2One or InstantCopy. But I don't ask for anything here. You are the mod :)

If I were to do that now I'd just be dumping a problem onto Ookami, and I wouldn't want to do that.

But, since this thread never was about either DVD2One or InstantCopy, it is off topic. And just like another thread in another forum which degraded into discussions outside the interest of the forums in general, I'm closing the thread as inappropriate for the forum.
