It might just be the demo version but it it does not allow you to specify bit rates per Title (only for all of them which seems pointless). I have not tried strpping out unwanted titles first as I thought this was supposed to be a poibt and click app - time will tell.
Anyone know what these image files are that are created? It seems to create one for each title which was not what I was expecting. The help files say nothing about them or what you are supposed to do with them.
So near yet so far from a true one hit DVD copy app it seems......

Replying to my own post here... just FYI, it seems that there may be some glitches in the navigation for DVD's copied by InstantCopy.
I'm doing an episode disc of Absolutely Fabulous for the wife, and one of the menu screens won't show up at all. The subpictures for the highlights come on (i.e., it acts as if I were on the next menu, but doesn't show the next picture). I wonder if one of the frames for the menu stills got "reencoded" out of existence by Instant Copy.

Another thing - it seems to be impossible at the moment to Order the full version. If you click on the link it just hangs with no response.
Until the tril version does what it says on the tin I would suggest holding fire on the credit cards everyone

I just did Mystery Alaska for my son. It took 88 minutes for the main movive, 6 minutes for the extras and then another 29 minutes to burn to dvd. It came out perfectly. BTW, Xp2100 w/ 512mb DDR ram and a Pioneer 103 which is hacked to burn at 2x.

anybody else have trouble with subtitles, they're not visible in end result...
figured it out, it was due to my profile, which excludes all subtitles except swedish, and then when I manually set subtitles
it goes blank after authoring, damn just fu***ed 2 great movies.

If you go to the dvd tab then select output size to custom resizeable you can set the bitrate (well compresion) for the individual title sets.

i tried instantcopy... and i am not really happy. I did 3 discs so far, and only one worked, with bad results... The one that worked was Andrew Lloyd Webber's Masterpiece, there was so much video on the disc that after processing the movie was completely blocks. The other movie, Marco Borsato - Live in Ahoy, it has weird errors, i set everything to auto this time, but it still prompts me with the resize window, so i decide to strip out 2.0 and DTS sound, just keep the 5.1, that's the only way it would even go under 5.2 GB. So, i removed those, and got to about 3.9 i think, so i added some quality to the main movie and pressed ok. Then i processed the movie in about 3 hours (P4 2.4/533 fsb /w 512 MB RDRAM (PC-800), Pioneer DVR-104, Toshiba 16x DVD-ROM, Plextor 40x24x40a and 6x120 GB Western Digital Discs with 8 MB buffer), and when its done, and should start burning to a DVD-RW, it sez disc oversized (5.2GB)! So what i did was do it all over again, select it manually, left all audio, and put all movie quality to sub-40%, just for testings sake. But it won't even allow me to do that... because everytime i pres ok, it just goes back to the main vieuw showing total size 5.2 GB, verry weird....
So i am really waiting for DVD2One to better the program, Instant copy went a bridge 2 far, they want to do to much i think.

I've had the same problem. The menu overlay images have somehow been misplaced. Basically, menu items are only visible when highlighted or when you hit "select." Everything is invisible in its unselected state.

DaveF71,
Just FYI, in order to work around that problem, I set the menu re-encoding at 100%, so that it wouldn't muck around with it too much. Then it was fine.

Just did 'The Matrix', a notoriously difficult title to accurately back up, came out pretty good... extras could be better, could be do to the fact that I selected under 45% for them...

60% & above seems to be OK for me with most menus & extras

My experience so far:
Works great. Encode times are good to mediocre (a little over 2 hours to encode). Quality is poor. In fact in at least one test case ("Contact") I think DVD2one actually did better (CCE did much, much better).
This tool is perfect for those who just want a working copy and aren't perfectionists. It is by far the easiest DVD copy method to date.

I think all these tools all need judging on their own merits - not against each other (although it is difficult I agree)
I did Family Guy Disc1 last night - I left everything at automatic - it came out perfect, negligle blockiness and menus work a treat.
All I'm saying is I have enjoyed re-encoding my discs in the past, adding .VOB files back into the orginal structure and working out how to keep menus etc (SW:AOTC *shudder*).
But now several programmes (DVD2ONE & InstantCopy) come along and does away with all that - I'm sure that by summertime they will have both matured into programmes that will make everyone happy, even the Pause-Boys.
I'm not saying CCE will not be needed - if you want a *Perfect* picture then that is the way to go - period.
Anyways just wanted to share that with you all - I'm generous like that....
BLUTO
Pause-Boys = Ppl who soon as they put they're copy into a set-top player just go through the movie pausing at certain points - never actually WATCHING the movie...:D ;)

With further testing I am somewhat more impressed but not persuaded to part with cash just yet
Just to clarify a few things -
1. The demo does NOT allow you to select which titles you want to keep. You will need to do any stripping or start title changes with Ifoedit BEFORE you process.
2. Nero does not like the .pdi image files that it creates - you need Instant VOB if you want to burn from the image files (nice piece of contingent product marketing)
I did Usual Suspects last night straight to a DVD+RW and image quality is impressive (i will do a more detailed comparison with DVD2One later). However, the menu systems are not working properly if I strip out unwanted audio and subs. Clicking on buttons that link to stripped streams hangs the player (which is kind of expected) but other buttons that link to retained streams do not work either. If I leave all the streams in - they work fine.
I am going to try disabling the buttons for unwanted streams before processing and see if that works.
A thought regarding pre-processing with Ifoedit. I am testing a multi episode disc now and before processing I have stripped out some vob's (copyright etc) and edited VIDEO.ifo to make the disc start with the root menu. Out of habit I then did a Get VTS-Sectors and Ifoedit did the usual corrections. Now I know that this is only to enable set tops to work properly, but if this step is missed out will InstantCopy duplicate the VTS sector errors to the new image/burn?
A related thought - could it be that you need to edit your original files (stripping out unwanted audio etc) with Ifoedit and get this working properly with corrected VTS sectors FIRST and then use InstantCopy?
Going to try this out now

I think so. I tried just deleting the usual stuff at the beginning of DVD startup using ifoedit & delete playback button, but Instantcopy was having none of it, came up with errors when I tried loading the ifo
but when I used Menu extras and stripped the VOB id's that way it worked just fine, so I guess it best to use ifoedit 1st and strip out the VOB id's that you don't want using Menu & Vob extras
worked fine for me so far

yes that's it, you can select which ones to keep etc but I'm sure you can also set individual % settings for each on instead of one overall % for everything
can't remember now actually, but the hack makes a difference :D
well worth buying now I think after be able to get into the PDI files before you burn

I must be using a unique trial version here. I cannot find a way to remove unwanted titles - I get the "Video Title" tree structure with all the titles listed with greyed out ticks against each one. Clicking any of the titles or the ticks or pressing "delete" etc has no effect. Am I doing something wrong here?
On another note - has anyone noticed the "Use Online Transcoding Database" settings on the Advanced - General tab? The help file and "user - manual" (note the sarcasm) make no mention of what this is and what effect it has on the output. It sounds very sexy but what the hell does it do? I can only suppose it is some kind of enhanced transcoding feature (a bit like the forced GOP template settings in TMPG).
I must say this looks like the usual rushed release job with instructions being written at the last minute and still lots of significant bugs in the code that idiots like us identify for them for free. What with these large gaps in documentation and the fact that you cannot even get the program registered because the vob site is currently down I am not impressed.
Grump!I hope DVD2One update is out soon

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VoB\CD Wizard\7.0\Copy and change the value of DVDMagic from 0 to 1.
InstantCopy must be closed before changing the registry key!

Im installing on xp and wondering how to set up user information.
It is only asking you if you want other users (if any) that logon to your XP machine to be able to use the program or just you..
It has nothing to do with how the program is setup but rather your pc.
So imho it has nothing to do with whatever problem you are experiencing.

I loaded up an IFO file after making a DVD-5 with InstantCopy and noticed it keeps the layer break in there (just like DVD2One). Some DVD players have an issue with this, so you may want to process your whole DVD again through Ifoedit to get rid of it, before burning.

Thanks, I'd assumed that it had something to do with that. I just didn't think to click on "Video Tracks", so I never saw that menu compression slider...

I haven't seen a place of where to enter any serial information. I'm assuming the full software is an upgdate/upgrade.
I will know when the software arrives from J&R.
