Subtitles for BW movie

I am trying to backup a BW movie "Manchurian Candidate". As usual I have ripped the subtitles under SubRip using predefined Scenarist settings - that is White (Background), Black (Font), Red (Outline) and Blue (Antialiasing). With color movies it always worked and the final result was as one can expect - white letter with delicate black outline. Unfortunately with "Manchurian Candidate" the letters are black but what is even worse the screen goes white when subtitle is displayed. What settings should I use then.
