View Full Version : AVISynth 2.5 support in next ver?

Hi, I'm eagerly awaiting an AVISynth 2.5 compatible VobSub and TextSub filter. I understand your previous reservations (about waiting on the ability to make a 2.0 and 2.5 compatible DLL) but in the newest AVISynth alphas they appear to be fixed - in fact supposedly Donald's newest Decomb beta uses the new Init2() function.
Are you working on such a version? If so or if not, do you forsee such a release in the near future?
Thanks for the great plugin.

Currently I'm busy reorganizing my code, but here is a quick build with avisynth 1.x/2.5 and virtualdub interface for both VobSub and TextSub in one file. All the dialog boxes for vd are still missing.
http://download.vobsub.edensrising.com/vobsub3.rar
Warning: this dll has nothing to do with the older vobsub.dll, do not replace this with that in the system(32) dir.

Wow thanks for teh quick response, Gabest! Greatly appreciated. I'll get around to testing it as soon as Xmas activities die down and I get back to a computer where I can actually encode stuff. :)

I don't know what I'm doing wrong? I tried with simple script:
LoadPlugin("vobsub.dll")
AVISource("C:\Movies\Chicken Run\CHICKEN_RUN.AVI")
KillAudio()
SwapUV
BicubicResize(320,184,0,0.5)
VobSub("C:\Movies\Chicken Run\CHICKEN_RUN.sub")
and it freeze my PC (WinXP-C1300).
If I try with TextSub("C:\Movies\Chicken Run\CHICKEN_RUN.sub") it returns an error.
Please help.

I think you have forgotten one thing in your avs script :
LoadPlugin("c:\.....\vobsub.dll")
AVISource("C:\Movies\Chicken Run\CHICKEN_RUN.AVI")
KillAudio()
SwapUV
BicubicResize(320,184,0,0.5)
VobSub("C:\Movies\Chicken Run\CHICKEN_RUN.sub")
;)

THX for replay but that is not way it doesn't work. I tried with full path but it's same thing. Anyway it would say like unrecognized command if .dll is not loaded.

OK. It was avisynth problem. I've just put version from 030103 and used TextSub and now it's working perfectly. Thanks anyway.

hi gabest,
thanks dude for your work from me as well... since you helped me out so nice concerning my little problem with your other great piece of software - MPC - I'd like to point you to another little problem...
as Kyo said in here, your provided dll works for him (and others) - I got it working as well but with weird effects ;)
because I don't want to post things double, maybe you can have a look to this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42205). See my second post in this thread and within this post the third link.
I hope, this isn't considered as x-posting by any mod and if so, then...:stupid:
thanks and

Since I've already uploaded the latest build for another thread, I think it can't hurt to link it here, too:
http://download.vobsub.edensrising.com/VSFilter.rar
It should run a little faster and the u/v channels are now processed in the other way, because I think that's how they should be and it is avisynth (or the vfw codec?) who's opening the avi wrongly. (directly viewing an avi with v25 always showed me swapped u/v channels, no idea why...)

Hi,
I have a problem with downloading the "testversion". I also want to know whether there is already a subtitle-support in avs2.5.
(from the avisynth2.5 website)
Filters that works with YV12:
Crop, Addborders , ConvertToYUY2, All audio filters, Levels, HSIAdjust, ShowFrameNumber, ShowSMPTE, Subtitle, DoubleWeave, Letterbox, StackVertical, StackHorizontal, VerticalReduceBy2, Greyscale, Resize (all), MergeLuma, MergeChroma, HorizontalReduceBy2, ReduceBy2, Blankclip, Dissolve, FadeIn/FadeOut.

Usually it happend only with DivX@YV12 . Other color are correctly displayed.
So you must add "SwapUV()" , and color are correct again.

What's wrong in my script?
LoadPlugin("H:\Plugins\2.5\VSFilter.dll")
AVISource("E:\Spirited Away\Spirited Away - CD1 no sound.avi")
ConvertToYV12
BilinearResize(352,180)
AddBorders(0,30,0,30)

I also had little problems using VobSub and .sub file (VirtualDub want opne it or subtitle is out of synch even thou subtitle is OK when watching original movie). Try to convert sub file to srt and then use TextSub. That works for me.

ahhhhh, vsfilter.dll is bad, the uv channels seem to be swapped, what used to be blue is now red, this is not good for me :( any way to make it configurable or swap it back?
atm im having to do
Return Movie.swapuv().textsub(Path_to_project+"catsy.ssa").textsub(Path_to_project+"k.ssa").swapuv()
instead of
Return Movie.textsub(Path_to_project+"catsy.ssa").textsub(Path_to_project+"k.ssa")
noticably slower :(
gabest
30th January 2003, 08:34
Ahhhh, why, why, why???? :P
With vsfilter.dll I have to write my script like this:
avifilesource
-> bad colors
swapuv
-> good colors
textsub
-> still good colors
And with the one version older textsub:
avifilesource
-> bad colors
textsub
-> still bad colors
swapuv
-> good colors
Of course in both cases textsub paints the right u/v channel on the right plane of the video, that's why it has to be put before or after swapuv.
gamr
30th January 2003, 10:30
without swapuv() i have good colors on my avi, this here - http://www.anime-xtreme.com/doom9/ - should explain most of it
k.ssa has the opening/ending karaoke+credits, catsy.ssa has the rest of the goodies in it. if you need the ssa's or even the avi as well that can be arranged.
obviously 3/6 is the right 1's for my work. if you want me to try anything else let me know and ill fire it up for ya.

Were these images captured through virtualdub or some dshow player? Can you find out which codec you have for decoding through vfw? (I mean what the avisource() call is using)
gamr
30th January 2003, 12:48
virtualdubmod capturing the images (ctrl-1)
as for the decoder, xvid (koepi's latest unstable to be exact), check back at http://www.anime-xtreme.com/doom9/ again, i posted an image of what vdm shows when i open the avi directly.

On your site I can see "AVISource(Path_to_project+D2V_filename)", how can you open d2v in avisource()? Or is it just a remain of something else there?
gabest
30th January 2003, 15:23
Call me lame, but I don't know what I did recently to make it work perfectly without a single swapuv needed... Perhaps replacing the vfw codecs of divx 5.0.2 with 5.0.3 solved my problems, but I'm not sure. Anyhow, I have tried xvid too, making sure that vdmod reports the same divx 5 / xvid properties as it can be seen on your screenshot but even then it worked without spawuv.
As my last idea, could you upload a small piece of the avi somewhere for me and a sample ssa in which you clearly mark what lines should look purple, yellow, etc.

31st January 2003, 00:32
I came to the same conclusion as you, when i installed divx5.0.3, the problem is gone, i don't need the swapuv command anymore. (in fact i used the same script as usual with swapuv on a divx5 source and get wrong colors so i came to this conclusion :p ). So colors are ok for the source, for the subs colors that's another problem :rolleyes:

sorry, missed this on the last post, thats just remnants of another script, i just hacked my latest dvdrip avs to test it. d2v_filename contains the avi filename, just too lazy to rename the globals ;)

First of all, I'm impressed looking at the intro in k.ssa, how did you make that? Just by hand?
Secondly, what color should "Presents" have when declared like this? :P
"Style: Presents,...,33023,65535,65535,16777215,..."
The components are BLUE GREEN RED, and not the reverse. 33023 is 0080FF in hex, which is half green and mostly red (orange together), but not blue at all.

@gabest
I don't think this should be in another thread, so here it goes:
This is how I work to get the right color in the subtitles using Avisynth 2.5
SwapUV()
vobsub("D:\AND_NOW_FOR_SOMETHING_COMPLETE\VIDEO_TS\VTS_01_0")
SwapUV()
Every SwapUV() means encoding time... :D

Argh! The correct link (took me 2 hours of guessing) for VSFilter.dll is http://vobsub.edensrising.com/vsfilter.rar and NOT http://download.vobsub.edensrising.com/VSFilter.rar !
Sorry for that little rant, hope that helps someone...

17th February 2003, 13:25
I use Avisynth 2.5 and CCE to encode SVCD streams.
Two options exist to make Vobsub working on AVS 2.5.
1) Like bilu with swapping:
LoadPlugin("D:\DVD\avisynth25\mpeg2dec3.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\DVD\avisynth25\vsfilter.dll")
mpeg2source("video.d2v") # reads YV12
...
SwapUV.Vobsub("subs").SwapUV
ConvertToYUY2
Return
2) A bit faster in YUY2:
LoadPlugin("D:\DVD\avisynth25\mpeg2dec3.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\DVD\avisynth25\vsfilter.dll")
mpeg2source("video.d2v") # reads YV12
...
ConvertToYUY2
Vobsub("subs") # works ok here
Return
You can see it is Vobsub that mismatches the UV planes, and only in YV12 colour space.
If you stream to VirtDub without colour space conversion from YV12 then DIVX 5 hooks in the chain and does the colour space conversion to RGB. It's known that DIVX 5 mismatches UV! What you see are bad colours.

New build here (http://vobsub.edensrising.com/vsfilter.rar).
- fps as the third textsub parameter is back
- textsubswapuv(bool) function (guess what it does :))
- fixed a nasty color overflow bug with yv12
Though there is textsubswapuv now, I still don't have any prob without it. Those who have please try to load other files encoded differently to check if it's not only because of one badly working codec.
kitsaros2000: Try to sync the subs before using them, there are a few good program to do it.

the vsfilter.dll work incredible ok with AviSynth 2.08 and AviSynth 2.51,
Excellent work!!!
I've been having problems using this script with avisynth 2.08
LoadPlugin("C:\avisynth\plugins\textsub.vdf")
AviSource("G:\video.avi")
TextSub("G:\subs.srt")
and I was getting only the video without subs, the I decided to try the new vsfilter, and all works excellent
LoadPlugin("C:\avisynth\plugins\vsfilter.dll")
AviSource("G:\video.avi")
TextSub("G:\subs.srt")
Thanks Gabest, this toy has no price. :cool:

Hi, I'm having a problem using VobSub with Avisynth 2.5. When using VobSub filter from an avs script, VobSub displays the subtitles in the wrong color, even though the VobSub config dialog shows the correct colors when I go to configure it (I have it set to remember the last color settings and everything). I'm using version 2.13 of VobSub.
Specifically it displays all of the colors correctly except for the subtitles' main color. It displays that color as a pale teal-blue instead of the normal pale yellow color. The other 3 subtitle colors (the border colors) are done correctly.
I can give more info if anyone thinks they might be able to help.

Are the ok-looking colors grayscale? Then you might want to try the u/v swapping function.

Thanks for all your hard work, gabest! But...
I'm having two problems with the latest build of VSFilter - subtitles shifting up and to the right, and the old UV mixup problem. I'm not sure if I should be posting this here or perhaps in the Avisynth forum so I'll try here first.
The following script was used:
#LoadPlugin("D:\Avisynth 2.5\MPEG2Dec\MPEG2Dec3.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\Avisynth 2.5\MPEG2Dec\MPEG2Dec.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\Avisynth 2.5\Decomb\Decomb.dll")
LoadPlugin("D:\Avisynth 2.5\VSFilter\Release\VSFilter.dll")
mpeg2source("E:\DVDRip\NADESICO_01\nadesico_01.d2v")
Telecide()
Decimate(5)
crop(8,0,698,478)
VobSub("E:\DVDRip\NADESICO_01\VTS_01_0")
LanczosResize(640,480)
Both MPEG2Decs are compatible with Avisynth 2.51 which I am using (MPEG2Dec.dll obtained here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42301&highlight=mpeg2dec)).
Images captured through VirtualDubMod 1.4.13.
Decomb version is 4.06 beta 7.
The following "shifting" problem occurs on multiple frames, I just decided to use this one as an example.
When using MPEG2Dec (http://www.freewebsitehosting.net/websites/mishima/nadesico-1.jpg)
When using MPEG2Dec3 (http://www.freewebsitehosting.net/websites/mishima/nadesico-2.jpg)
*** However, when the crop and LanczosResize are commented out, the problem disappears.
UV problem:
When using MPEG2Dec (http://www.freewebsitehosting.net/websites/mishima/nadesico-3.jpg)
When using MPEG2Dec3 (http://www.freewebsitehosting.net/websites/mishima/nadesico-4.jpg)
*** However, when Decomb and its associated commands are commented out, the problem disappears - hence my point about whether to post this in Subtitle or Avisynth Usage forum.
Also, the UV problem does not occur on all frames.
Putting SwapUV() above and below the VobSub command does not fix this issue, but inserting ConvertToYUY2 above VobSub("...") does fix it.
Knowing my luck, it's probably something simple which I've missed :p
