Overlaying subs on a DVD

I have a bunch of DVDs that I want to play with downloaded subtitles: Subrip, MicroDVD, etc. Is there a player that will let me do that? (Is there a way to load DVobSub in Theatertek or WinDVD?)

I'd rather not have to rip the DVD, but if that's what it takes, fine. Reencoding to mpeg4 is out of the question.
