Wild Orchid Subtitle Problem

Hi there.

I am trying to rip Wild Orchid region 2 DVD however I am experiencing problems with extracting the subtitles...

Although I run vobsub and it recognizes all subtitle streams correctly, the sub file that is created contains no subtitles at all !?!

To be more precise, here is the screenshot of the Subresync for the .sub file :

There are no subtitles at all and instead all I can see is that box in every subtitle quote. The subtitles play correctly on the DVD though.

Any thoughts on what is wrong ?

Seems like it's a vobsub problem only, cause SubRip recognizes and displays the subtitles correctly.

What I want to ask now is how to make SubRip create a simple .sub file like the ones that are created via vobsub (with image subs no ASCII, OCR or anything like that) ?

Did you have checked all the subtitles or only the first ones? I have one subtitle in that are blank pictures (1x4 points) too, but only 10 of 1000. It could be that case. Otherwise wait for next vobsub release, resp. check if you're using the latest release.

And make SubRip rip to .sub files? It would be not difficult, but I think it is and should stay VobSub domain.

Every language and every subtitle stream of each language show this box.

Maybe it's a vobsub bug ? Who knows...

I've meant yesterday, that e.g. first 10 subtitle items of Greek stream could be the blank ones and the rest could be fine... try it.

Unfortunately, all subtitle streams are empty. I just checked... I think it must be a bug of vobsub or something... Let's see what Gabest has to say about that.

There must be something with the colors. I'm waiting for the samples to arrive.

It's quite old post, but there is still v2.23 as actual.
I have one subtitle with this problem too.

Gabest, I don't know if you've fixed it yet.
If not, I have solution and short testicle (from Alex Volok).

As I remember this was the problem of the strange palette and transparency values at the end of the subpictures. There are cases when they override eachother several times in more param blocks and unfortunately the last one makes it look like an empty picture. This is still something I don't know how to handle. The only way to overcome the prob is to use the custom palette setting.

Yes, that's exactly the problem.

I don't know what effect should it make too, but for me works to take the color/contrast values only from the 1st ~"DSpQT" (according to norm, that the 1st ~"DSpQT" must contain the color/contrast information). It works, but seems not to be the right solution. Because the first contrast values are 0 5 5 5, then 0 10 10 10; 0 15 15 15; 0 10 10 10; 0 5 5 5 and at the end 0 0 0 0.

As an another workaround we could take the max contrast of this array, but in case of colors...

btw. on my testicles, only contrast is alternating.

I'm just running into this problem. Using subresync 2.23 and dvobsub 2.27. the subs are there but i just cant see them.
