Advanced Sub special effects?

I've read that Advanced SSA has more special effects. Where can I find info about it? I visited the VobSub site but there isn't much about it. Also, what types of special effects are possible?

I'm curious how people are able to do angled subtitles (while scrolling), spinning subtitles, etc. Perhaps a different program or plug-in is used?
