VobSub 2.20 and Band of Brothers

I'm having a few problems here ripping subs from Band of Brothers episodes.

I'm region 3, NTSC, and each DVD has two episodes.

The first episode seems to rip fine (I'm using SmartRipper). The subs show up without a hitch. However, the second episode in program chain 2 rips empty files!

I've read a few posts about ripping subs from different program chains and at last resorted to copying to whole DVD to my hard drive in order to get the information VobSub needed to produce good results.

First, I ripped prgoram chain 2 only, streaming the rip and leaving in [other:??], but no results.

Next, I tried ripping the whole DVD, but it crashed my system when I tried to rip the subs in the second program chain.

Only after I ripped the whole DVD and then unchecked "reset time at beginning of new vob" (or something like that) in the VobSub menu that displays the available subs did it finally produce the subtitles.

Is there any tutorial out there on how to rip the subs off of the second episode more effectively/efficiently? Or does anyone want to enlighten me...;)

Hi,here´s how i did it:

Start smartripper and rip only the 2nd episode(pgc 2).Make sure u make the filesize of the output vob 4 gigs(somewhere in options).

Now u have to fire up vobedit06 and do 3 steps:
-load the output vob and strip the main video file(u will get a m2v file)
-after this load the output vob again and strip the audio(u will get an ac3 file)
-load the output file again and strip the subs(this gives a sup file)
make a celltimes.txt with ifoedit en author all this with ifoedit095

Dont forget to paste the subtitle color and u´ll be all set

Well, thanks for the reply. I managed to get the subtitles I needed without having to rewrite scripts or anything like that.

What information is the second program stream (and consecutive program streams) missing that the first program stream seems to have? Is it just one file? The .ifo perhaps?

I guess what I'm asking is if there is an easy way to stream the necessary file out of the first program chain (by using Smart RIpper) that I can then copy and put in the folder which has my other program chains, giving me access to the subtitles?

I don't know if the problem you had had anything to do with mine. I was backing up Star Wars Ep II and VobSub 2.20 wouldn't extract the forced subs for some reason; they wouldn't show when running that stream filter. All the other subtitle streams worked fine. Since upgrading to 2.22, it works now and all subs appear fine. You might want to try that new version if you have any more problems.
