How to create Maestro compliant subs from text file and sync them?

Hi,

let me explain what I'm trying to do:

I have captured a movie from NTSC LaserDiscs, with english audio track, and want to make a DVD out of it. I made a DVD compliant mpeg2 23.996 fps video stream and DD5.1 audio stream, and imported all this stuff in Maestro without problem.

Now, as I'm French, I'd like to add a French subtitle stream to the DVD. I had the VHS version of the movie so I wrote a text file, with all the subs, respecting Maestro format. It took me hours but I did it :cool: Since I didn't have the correct timecodes when writing the subs, I put a fake ones, distinct for every sub so that no sub overlap the next one.
I could import this text file in Maestro but now I'd like to set the correct timecodes.

Is there a simple way to do this in Maestro?

I heard there were tools to do this with avi files but Maestro sub format was not recognized.

What I'd like to do is load the mpeg2+audio streams and the text file, play the video with sound and hit a key to set the timecode 'in' and another key for the timecode 'out', and so on...

Any help will be very appreciated.

Since u have a sub stream that u can import in Maestro u can try to adjust the timecode inhouse.

However if u dont want to do this in maestro u can have subrip to read your file and save in a format that subtitle studio can understand or subviewer format that u use to sync.

I do basically what you are doing. I capture the video/audio from laserdisks, then manually transcribe the entire movie for subtitle creation.

To sync everything up, I load the text file into Sub Station Alpha, then create a monoral soundtrack to import into SSA, then play the audio and use the program's "Grab Timing" to get the exact times. This works like a charm for me, and imports into Maestro thru MaestroSBT (which creates the bitmap images). I don't have a problem with subpicture / audio sync.
