Splitting wt SubRip makes 2nd part unseen

I have this weird problem now for a number of times. I get a full srt file for a film on two cds. Easy enough to split with SubRip. But the first part is no problem it's the 2nd that doesn't show subs at all.
I've tried this with version 0.97b and 1.033. If I convert the 2nd srt file into a *.sub file with SubRip, it works?

To update my problem. Somebody was kind enough to split the srt file
as well. Works for him, did sent the splitted files back to me in srt
format, still no subtitles on the 2nd part. And if I convert it to
a sub file I see titles. Am I missing something? But why then does it work on the 1st part in srt.

For what it's worth, my problem was solved with DirectVobSub v. 2.19 and the kind attention of Gabest. Thx again.
