vobsub 2.18 and correcting subtitles

I'm trying to correct English subtitles for a Japanese movie called Battle Royale: spelling mistakes and whatnot.

How do I access the .sub file? Is there a way for me to open it up and re-type the incorrect passages?

the .idx/.sub file format you can't edit since they are images of the subs and not a text format. what you need to do is use SubResync and change them to either srt or ssa files which are text based. The you will be able to edit them all you want and still display them with DVobSub
