Iīm working with FAB Subtitler PRO for 2 years, itīs great. I use it for open subtitling i.e Movie subtitling on Betacam. It works great with my Matrox Digisuite LE.

How does that work? Does FAB generate the subtitles for playback inside Premiere or some other NLE, or do you use it with a two VTR setup, with FAB reading timecode from your source VTR and creating the subtitles and overlaying them using the Digisuite's video mixer? I own a Digisuite LE, too, so I'm curious about this even though all the subtitling I do now is DVD-based.

First you need the PRO version that allows Open Subtitling. You have to configure your Digisuite card to work with "Graphic Keyed over video". The subtitles are generated by FAB itself, keyed using Matrox and the timecode is received with a timecode reader card such as Alpermann/Velte PCI.
I have 2 Betacamīs, Player & recorder. After all the writing is done ītīs as easy as pressing (Auto/On air/Lock) and your movie comes out subtitled...:D

Keying subtitles over video is just one option (FAB supports several "genlock" devices).

Another functionality is editing and converting several subtitle formats, the PRO or DVD version is able to export several formats for different DVD authoring tools, text scripts as well as bitmaps + timecode scripts. The bitmap text rendering can be configured with several options (like font kernel/frame/shadow colors and sizes).

I really donīt know, you have to find a reseller at your country. My guess is thatīs quite expensive. The Timecode card is about 800 Euro.

A few years ago, the DVD studio I worked for wanted to buy a subtitling tool; as far as I remember, either the Pro or DVD version costed around 3,000 EUR. You might ask here: sales@fab-online.com
