I've tried it.. :(
This morning I discovered that even standalone ogg file has the same playback problem (I've forgot to try this before :)), but only when played through OggDS - when I play it in players that have their own vorbis plugin (like Winamp), oggs play just fine...

stargazer,
One last thing for you to try and I'll stop abusing this thread. Try switching between Wave Out and Direct Sound to see if that has an effect on playback for you.

MaTTeR,
it seems that this was the problem! Thanks!
Your abusing can stop now! :)
I'm using Valex' ac3filter+waveout for my divx+ac3 movies, so it must have changed all audio renderer preferences to waveout.. And OggDS works fine only with DirectSound...
Thanks again!

Is actually someone interested in the problems posted in this or other threads regarding OGM problems? Or what's the use of this feedback thread?

First all, thank you tobias for oggDS that make OGM possible and existence in the first place. :)
Now on to the feedbacks...
What I am really hoping to get fixed is the "seeking and freeze" problem that many user reported. What I meant is that the since the OGG decoder doesn't report a frame rate, it can resulted the movie not seeking correctly to the exact location. We can check this by checking the information dialog and see the frame rate is reported by the oggDS. Since oggDS support chapters, it doesn't make sense that it can't jump to a specific time.
When seeking is used, it tends to go to the key frame instead of the frame I wanted(that is because seek frame is checked, but if I turn it off, it is impossible to seek)... Other times it would just freeze.
The other thing:
The new version supports Vorbisgain tags, is it albumn gain or radio gain, can the user choose which gain they want to apply? And where can the user see the gain being applied? Right now, I can only see the information on post gain.

Ok, I checked the lastest OggDS and Subfilers out, on two machines, one with nvidia, one with SiS graphics, both XPsp1. Test files were self generated eps with one xvid, two ogg audio and two srt. playback did not work out-of-the box, with a minimum of filters installed.
mplayer 8 complains about "wrong parameter". bsplayer shows the movie without subs. Standard OGM (one ogg audio) and DivX are working fine.
With vobsub installed and direct-vobsub switched to autoloading, playback works well on the nvidia machine, to make it work on SiS ffdshow was required aditionaly.
vobsub could be omitted on the nvidia machine when ffdshow is installed.
bsplayers flips the image vertical, what mplaer 8 does not. reason are the different settings for overlay mode, as sis has more limitations compared to a gforce 4 and bsplayer handles the overlay modes different.
As the subfilter does use overlay I believe it is the one to blame. Without vobsub the subs look worse, as vobsubs applies its font settings to the subs.

Hi
the problem described by Hoschi is also detailed in this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=36972).
It seems related with SubtiDS and the codec used for video : DivX 4/5 + subtitles works, but DivX 3 / MsMpg4v3 / XviD + subtitles doesn't.
As said by Hoschi, when using DirectVobSub there is no problem ...

Since I've installed OggDS 0.9.9.5, all my .ogm files (Divx502+ 1 ogg stream) playback is very choppy (I don't know if this is a good word, but it looks like a DJ playing with his vinyl LPs or like someone is choking it ).
I've tried to install older versions over 0995 but the problem stays the same... All other divx files (with mp3 and ac3 streams) play just fine but all my OGM collection is unusable now.
I had the same problem. I messed around with Wave Out and DirectSound with no luck. I installed the old filters and it works better now. I just did a quick test though, so I'm not completely certain.

Is there an update on the status of so-called junk frames that are only produced within the .ogm container?

I haven't seen my problem alluded to on this thread, so I'm gonna post it.
I have an Xvid+Vorbis0+Vorbis1 Ogg. Both of the Vorbis files are 2 channel, same sample rate, etc.
When I open the Ogm file in WiMP, the play button is depressed, yet the file does not play. However, if I switch the audio stream to the other one, the file starts playback as normal. I can then switch to the first audio stream, and everything is normal.
I have OggDS 0995, the subtitle filter installed (though I use VobSub to display, per the bugs listed elsewhere in the forum), and am using Koepi's 4-10-2002 Xvid (old, I know, but stable and works great) without Nic's DShow filter.
Any ideas?

Slight clarification, these so called junk frames are only showing on DivX5. I've not seen any reports of SBC and XviD users with that problem. I thought ffdshow resolved this problem for DivX5 users:confused:

Correction:
After tests, I've encountered many problems with choppy audio playback. The problem was worse with the new filters, but after installing the old ones playback is slightly better but audio still skips.

I have news about freezing in OGM:
(where it is stated 'vorbis' it means always 2 or more vorbis streams; tests done using latest VDubMod)
-the freezing when the movie starts (timer counts but picture is black -the zplayer.exe process consumes no CPU time-; seeking is needed to defreeze), is due to having ac3 and vbr mp3 at the same time. I tested with and without vbr mp3, while keeping always 1 ac3 as first stream plus vorbis. The absence of vbr mp3 avoided the freezing. I also tested vorbis+vbr mp3 and vbr mp3 + vorbis, and there was no freezing, too.
-if you have ac3 as first track plus vorbis as second track, and play the movie with the second track selected, there is freezing at the beginning, too.
-the freezing when seeking or switching audio track happens when you have ogg vorbis plus ac3 or vbr mp3. I tested with ac3+vorbis and vorbis+vbr mp3, and in both cases seeking or switching track froze the movie. Only when having vorbis only, there was no problem.
-divx video from a video-only avi plus vbr mp3 audio freezes at the beginning (the timer stays at 00:00 and the picture is black; seeking needed to defreeze). Note: the counter reamins at 00:00, unlike the cases before.
NOTE: why am I still using vbr mp3? I don't like transcoding. I high quality modern container like OGM should provide support for a variety of formats, at least the most important ones like vbr mp3, unless the complexity of the container could get too high.
Has somebody something to say about this?

We are all wondering :
WHEN WILL THEM FALL FROM THE SKIES!?!!! (New OGGDS release, MCF, PoweDivX....)
I have also found another problem with OggDS. Look at this thread. A little bit old, but I have similar problems.
http://www.powerdivx.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=716
The point is that small chunks (700MB) are better played than the whole movie file (2.06GB). Whole movie files will be the big thing when DVD burners be everywhere.

I, too, am experiencing the subtitling problem where the filter will stall ogm playback.
I know it's been mentioned a bunch. Just a 'me too' post and hoping to see the new filters soon.

Well! Just had my first experience with OGM chapters. It hasn't been quite satisfactory, even though I can appreciate all the effort to put that feature together.
I normally use BSPlayers chaptering system. I miss some of its features in Tobias' OGM implementation. The following features are present in BSPlayer but not in OGM-chaptering:
-I'd like to have frame accurate chaptering. In OGM, you can only go up to seconds (not even tenths of second).
-when playing, going to a chapter means actually going to the keyframe nearest to the chapter's starting point in time. That happens with both players tested (BSlayer and Zoom Player).
-chaptering should be multi-CD aware: all chapters should be selectable at any point of the movie. If the selected chapter is out of the movie fragment currently played, the adequate CD should be played (or asked for). That is implemented in BSPlayer.
(OGM files generated with Cyrius VDubMod; BSPlayer and Zoom Player used for playback testing; the test file contained DivX videop lus one vorbis audio stream, and the file was cut in two halfes; chapters were introduced according to Tobias specs in the video stream comments)
Moreover, Zoom Player didn't manage good the chapters of the second half of the film. Next Chapter didn't Work (Only Previous chapter).
Any comment on this?

For frame accuracy : you can't have it unless a keyframe is inserted at the frame which begins the chapter. A tool recently developped by Zulu ( search the xvid's forum ) can do it. Moreover, StatReader 2.0 ( in Koepi's build ), allow also to add keyframe where you want. For divX 3,4 and 5, you can have GKnot to do it.
For multiCD chapters, I think it's player related, by I can be wrong.

Release for what ?
MCF: Actually no idea, it's development is going nicely and smoothly. Don't expect anything for this year, but more for the first part of 2003.
OggDS: No ideas, but I can affirm that it's going to take a lot of time. Tobias is very busy with the university and his job and he is working on some majors changes in the filter (like the codec plugin thing)
The Core Media Player (PowerDivX 4): Well I'm trying to do my best to get a first public beta for the end of the month. I just have to kick a bit the team because they still don't realize that we're nearly done. (we're already thinking about TCMP 4.5)

Fully depending on 2 remaining factors now :
- how fast can robux4 update libmcf so it fits the final specs ( which is ready to to be freezed BTW ). Steve mentioned that he already started to look at that, and found its not as big of a deal as he thought, thanks to using C++ for libraries. Many existing classes can be reused or just need a bit of modification.
- We're stuck with development of the DirectShow parser for MCF, and unfortunately i dont get any feedback from the author, Jan 'myFUN/kromyx' Schlenker, he may either be on holidays or be busy with job/uni, i have no idea. The current parser can only read one track in the MCF file, and only audio, no video :( .
But we have high hopes on our java wizzard John 'spyder482' Cannon, who already started to implement the new EBML based MCF specs in Java. Iits interesting to note here that his Java implementation, called 'MCF4Java' is NOT based on robux4's libmcf, so he does it all as a native implementation, all coded in Java. This is very good for us to x-test both to see if the specs are clear and have been implemented same way, because normally both of them should be able to read files created with the other implementation.
In a worst case scenario i can see us in a situation where, by begining of next year,
- libmcf is updated by robux4 to support MCF-1 spec compliant streams
- VirtualdubMod_MCF from Suiryc is working with new libmcf, so its possible to create spec compliant MCF files ( only AVI compatibility mode of course, until UCI is ready to be used ) or transmux AVIs/OGMs into MCF ( incuding MPEG2 video, AC3 and Vorbis )
- MCF4Java can also be used to create and even edit spec compliant MCF files
but
- we can only watch the movies in JMStudio ( JMF player ) using spyder's MCF4Java, as there is no working Dshow filter available for Windows :( . Nothing against Java, but to make MCF widely used we need a Dshow filter. JMStudio, unfortunately, cant compare to modern Dshow based Mediaplayers such as BSPLayer, Zoomplayer or TCMP ....
I already contacted Milan Cutka asking for help with the Dshow filter. Maybe Jan is stuck in minor problems, so i hope Milan will give us allowance that Jan can ask a few questions via mail or here in the forums ...

I am starting work on the EBMLed parser this weekend. I hope it will be a swift project but I am coding everything slowly and carefully this time. I want this to be the best code I have ever written. Also, this code has javadoc comments too. :)

I've found a playback issue with the OggDs Subtitle filter. I looked for it in the forums, but I found nothing related.
I am muxins subtitles into a film in OGM. The submixed subtitles were downloaded from Internet, which means they were not perfect. I did some fixing (using Subtitle Workshop) by setting a minimal duration of every subtitle. That makes subtitles to be continuous; for example one subtitle ends at 01:34:23.455 and the next one starts at 01:34:23.456. As you see, there is no overlap, but a tight continuity.
Well! In such a situation, the second subtitle is not displayed. I have latest OggDS and Ogg Subtitle filters by Tobias. I have tested with latest Zoom Player and BSPlayer, reproducing the problem in both. With BSPlayer's builtin subtitle render engine, which is OGM subs-capable, the problem does not appear! I cannot use OGM plus BSPlayer because BSPlayers does not play correctly OGMs with ac3+mp3+ogg audio (which I need).
I consider this a bug, since subs are not displayed when there is no overlap.
Has anybody found a solution or workaround to this? Maybe the filter configuration? Maybe some setting in Zoom Player? Maybe going back to an old release of Tobias' sub parser?
Alestrix

@pirata
I don't know the subtitle workshop, so maybe this won't be possible with it.
Try working frame-based and not time-based (e.g. by converting to MicroDVD format first), then make sure that there is no frame-overlap between subtitles, then convert back to srt-format.
I don't know whether the problem of SubTitDS is related to this, but I think it's worth a try...

People, i want to know if somebody managed to deal with freeze frames(yes, like in good old pre-divx3 AntiFreeze times) in ogm files?
As in avis, they occur when a file has random data written instead of valid frame.
Sometimes it just freezes. Sometimes it skips to incorrect position (like, freeze at 18:10, jumps to 43:00 instead of freezing).
What i want to ask is, the ogm container was coded with that issue in mind, why am i getting these freezes? Could they be codec related :/
oggds v 0.9.9.5 and "stable" build of xvid was used for these.
kxy
17th December 2002, 18:26
The freeze frames you described has nothing to do with pre-divx3 freeze frames. The cause of it is and I am guessing; since the OGG decoder doesn't report a frame rate, it will result the movie not seeking correctly to the exact location.

Does ANYBODY know when will be the next OggDS release ready?
It is said it fixes a lot of thing, also AC3 playback, which is awfully CPU intensive (when it shouldn't be).
But it's been a long time since the last release...

@kxy
Problems occur only on videofiles with bad CRC. Also, vdub_ogm fails to parse them approx at same position where freeze takes place.
More, both files were downloading during a power outages, i am pretty sure of it.

Helloe everybody!
just have my first freezing movie in OGM-format:
movie specs 50 minutes /CD, one video-stream DivX5.0.3@720x312,
two audio-streams à -q 0.2, muxed with ogmuxer.
The playback stops all time at the same position (tried with ffdshow, 3ivx&Divx decoder), but I guess it's not a problem of video-decoder, but of OggDS. WHY? Just had a look at the video-renderer-properties: It just stopped decoding frames, so framerate is decreasing, moreover sound has stopped as well.
Any input?
Thanks

What's gone wrong? is this a problem on the recording or on the playback-site?? Recording would be really bad, how to know that there is no problem before burning the movie to CD (besides watching whole movie)
Please help me.
Thanks
Raist
P.S: I'll try to demux the file & re-mux it with latest releases of OgMuxer & oggMux. But if it's a recording problem, the error will persist :( SO THIS ONE NEEDS A FIX URGENTLY!
UPDATE: Found two more failed sync's in the same movie (just one of two parts, I'll check the other later). One sync error results in a bad looking picture for a few seconds, the second one is in the credits, no visible effect.

Demuxing of files having a sync-fail is impossible for me, I tried with OGMDemuxer & VirtualDubMod.
So the movie that hangs because of such a sync-fail is lost !?
I will re-rip the movie:mad: & compare OGMuxer to OggMux, I guess the problem is somewhere there.
Anyone else having such troubles recently?
