DVobSub, SRT, OGM and HTML

I'm running DVobsub 2.16, with subtitds installed as well. Windows 2k, directx 8.0. When I go to view html formatted subs that have been muxed into an ogm, the italics show up perfectly. I have no trouble.

But I have a friend who has the same setup except directx 8.1, and he cannot for the life of him get the italics to show. He only gets the <i> </i> tags. He has also tried using the newer versions of DVobSub.

My question is if there is a known limitation, or if there is a way to get the formatted subs to work properly on every system? Could the directx version difference actually cause a problem with this, or would it have to be settings?

I'm having the exact same problem; no matter what I try I can't get anything except the <i></i>

I have DX9.0 installed, so perhaps it is a DX problem.

Hopefully this bump will help get this question answered?

i m encoding OGM with SRT, using <i> tags, so i m very interested in the problem you reported.

well, if i remember correctly VobSub 2.16 is the first version that supports html tags in SRT in OGM.
It is possible that minor problems have been fixed in 2.17+
How about trying the newest one (2.23) just in case anyway?

OggDS 0.9.9.5
SubTitDS 1.4.0.0
VobSub 2.23

TCMP (http://www.tcmp.org/) might be another choice.
It seems this player is going to support subtitles in itself.
So possibly it will work fine even if VobSub is buggy. (in the future)

seemingly, Media Player Classic, Bs Player, ZoomPlayer are all using the same method (auto-loaded vobsub) for soft-subbing OGMs, so I don't think changing player will help you; but you might just as well try other players to see...?

Thank you for your correction, I didn't know that.

Usually I'm using MPC; I tried TCMP, WMP6.4, WMP9 and ZoomPlayer,
to me <i> tags work fine with all of these 5 players.

Only, In the caption (not sub) in WMP9,
I see <i> in SRT rendered as {\i1}, as if it was in an SSA.
