Hi :)

Please, make an experiment:
Rip subs to .sub file with VobSub and convert it to .srt file with SubRip two times:
- With “Ignore IFO when IDX present” option DISABLED, and
- With “Ignore IFO when IDX present” option ENABLED.

There is a difference in subs timings!

Example:
Option ENABLED:

1
00:00:07,160 --> 00:00:09,799
<i>(PA) Unscheduled incoming traveller.</i>

2
00:00:14,680 --> 00:00:16,477
There's no one scheduled.

3
00:00:16,600 --> 00:00:19,068
- Did you get an iris code?
- Yes, sir. From SG-1.

4
00:00:23,640 --> 00:00:25,119
Hi. How are you?

Option DISABLED:
1
00:00:07,440 --> 00:00:10,079
<i>(PA) Unscheduled incoming traveller.</i>

2
00:00:14,960 --> 00:00:16,757
There's no one scheduled.

3
00:00:16,880 --> 00:00:19,348
- Did you get an iris code?
- Yes, sir. From SG-1.

4
00:00:23,920 --> 00:00:25,399
Hi. How are you?

Any idea?
VobSub or SubRip is wrong?

SubRip 1.03
VobSub 2.16

Bye.

VobSub is right, as usually...

You should have this "ignore..." option enabled all the time you rip .sub to avoid this desynch. VobSubs are copy of subt-stream, but with some small corrections, when I'm right. That's why SubRip uses the *good* timecodes from IDX files...

Hi :)

Thank You for Your answer :)

To sum it up:
Vob -> SubRip is less accurate than
Vob -> idx+sub(no ifo) -> SubRip
Correct?

PS.
What do You think about Closed Caption?
Just asking :)

Bye.

Hi,

To sum it up:
VOB - nearly the same
SUB - same when IDX used, in other case SubRip is wrong - that was even the reason why the "ignore..." checkbox was made

CC - I don't know any DVD with it, so not in this time.

zuggy: you're from Prague? I can supply you some when I return, if you want to play :)

But the graphedit way is already working, so...

Yusaku: I think so too. But you can write some certain titles here.
And 100 km from Prague...

I'm sure there are many, but AFAIK they are all R1 (or japanese R2 - well, just NTSC). The best one where you can try it that I know of is probably "Walking with..." series from BBC (at amazon) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000069HW4/qid=1029623715/sr=8-9/ref=sr_8_9/002-8004555-9234447?s=dvd&n=507846), as it has both CC and regular subs showing exactly the same... I can send you VOBs if you like, but I guess it'll be better to do this in persona :)
