Bug report: VobSub 2.16 cause BSPlayer to crash!

I tried both BSPlayer build 486 & 487, both crash when I open an AVI.
I'm using Windows 98 SE.

Now, I reinstalled VobSub 2.13 and all is fine

@gabest: what's the matter? after 2.13 all versions don't work properly anymore

Well... i havent had any problems ever with vobsub... well a few but nothing that hasnt been solved fast... :)

Anyway... this new version seems to be working fine... at least to me... if you're using windows... its most porbably the OS fault or some other filters/codecs that are creating imconpatibility with this new versions of vobsub... maybe gabest made some new changes to the code that now interfere with what u have installed... well anyway... i hope that can be solved :)

HUmmm... one minor question... besides the information u provide in your instalation abuot the new ass specs... where else can i find more info... well what i need is more detailed info... a little easier to understand to those who are not in the development of it... cause i find it to be too little information... :)
Well i want this cause i encode anime... and this new subtitle editing features really make me happy... welll have been using and abusing of them... but still have a long way to go to master all the features...
BTW.. one thing i would ask if possible to implement... vertical karaoke... yes not left to right... but top to bottom... why and whats the use of this... japanese/chinese characters are properlly writen this way... and it would be very usefull to me to have this feature available if possible.

You still have Win98, don't you? please try to see what's happening, version 2.13 works like a charm, you must have changed something since version 2.14, because every version after 2.13 was causing a different problem, kind of "new version, new bug!" :D

Now I remember:
V2.14: causing WMP to crash sometimes, and causes Windows Media Encoder 8 GUI to crash
V2.15: don't load subtitles
V2.16: causes BSPlayer to crash
None of this problems is present in V2.13

You may also upload VobSub 2.13 to your site, so people can download it if they are getting trouble with later versions.

You could use those font names starting with @, and rotate the lines with {\fr-90}.

There isn't any more detailed description of the format, but if I have time I will make a demo script showing all the new features.

Please please please, install Win98. Just install it on a small 500MB partition for tests or so.
I'm pretty sure there is many people still using Win98.

If you're not into it, at least please upload V2.13 to your site and declare it as "100% Win98 compatible" or so :D

I got the same trouble as Dj Bobo,
I'm running Bsplayer 0.85 build 488 On windows XP-Pro.
And when vobsub 2.16 is installed Bsplayer crash.
-If I open a avi file with no vobsub subtitle on the same dir,
No Crash but Bsplayer only show me a black screen.
-If I open an avi with vobsub subtitle then I get a crash.
My Bsplayer.log:

I tried to uninstall oggDsFilter and subtitledsfilter, but it doesn't work.
(Other player: zoomplayer, WMP6.4... work fine)

If you can run both bsplayer0.85build488 and vobsub2.166 on windows Xp and got an Idea on why I can't, please help me ;)

Edit: I'm new to vobsub(Allways do OCR-subtitle with subrip) so Version 2.16 is the first for me, but it seem that this trouble between bsplay & vobsub exist since V2.15 of vobsub:

VobSub + BSPlayer ??

I think BSPlayer has subtitle reader engine to read the subtitle,
without the vobsub support.

So... installing vobsub over Bsplayer is wasting resource.

BSPlayer has subtitle engine for common text based subtitle formats, not VobSub format. So VobSub is needed.
VobSub is needed in that or that case, since making the sub files requires the VobSub software itself!

he's right, i get the same error messages here - i believe the workaround is to use directvobsub 2.14

Exactly ;)! Why people use buggy players and assume it's all Gabest's fault is beyond me (if it works in WMP, and ZP, and...).

sorry, but if 2.13 works fine and 2.16 cause it to crash, then the problem is related to VobSub, not BSPlayer ;)

It's certainly possible that a change from one totally correct way of doing things in 2.13 to another totally correct way of doing things in 2.16 could expose a previously unknown bug in BSPlayer. This kind of thing happens all the time.

A temporary solution is:
In DirectVobSub Properties, check "Force RGB", and set "use overley" to "mode 2" in BSPlayer.
When play avi in BSPlayer, a warning of "Overlay failed" will display, and then it tries to use RGB mode, you can see the movie with subtitles as usual.

I didnt understand exactly if there is a solution to this problem, since im not a native english speaker...
BTW Im using Windows 98 SE and Im not planning in going XP or more, I think 98SE is enough. So developers here should continue offering programs for windos 98... i think... :D

So, whats the solution to my problem?

Also, I would like to know if with Windows Media PLayer it is possible to select between 2 audio streams in a movie. If not, I think there should be some solution to my problem because I need to choose between the two audio streams in my divX and svcd movies.
