Question about dvobsub

Hi,

I'm usually using SubRip to rip subtitles, then translate them to my own language. For DivX it works very well. The translated subtitles work with all the players.

There's one problem though: I ripped and translated my own DVDs, yet I still can't find a way to view the DVDs with the translated subtitles. Is there a way to combine the DVD and an external .srt (or any other format)? Is dvobsub the answer?

Are you wanting to watch these dvd's on your PC or standalone player? If so you can download and watch them using DVD Subber at www.dvdsubber.com also you might be able to use ZoomPlayer in its dvd mode.. but i don't know in DVD mode if you could load a subtitle filter like DVobSub or not.

Gabest: the tray icon doesn't appear when DVobSub is loaded via Zoom Player, but it does with WMP and other players. Is this something that has to do with DVobSub? Or maybe I should ask Blight. I wouldn't use that icon anyways cause Zoom calls DVobSub's properties directly, but maybe someone's having this problem too.

Blight said he was annoyed to see the icon with zoomplayer, to enable it again run regedit and modify this key

I tried with ZoomPlayer, like you suggested, and it works. But I'm having big trouble with the timing of the subtitles. They're way off the mark.

Let me recap: after editing the profile to include dvobsub in the playback graph, I can see the tray icon when the DVD is playing. Now, in order to load a subtitle file, I used the icon. Yet, there are two things:
1. the timing of the subtitles is really bad (sometimes 10 seconds ahead, other times 30 seconds ahead). I tried to offset the subtitles, but since the difference is not the same all the time, there's little I can do. I thought it could be from the additional stuff played back before the actual movie starts (i.e. copyright message, and the Dolby flick).
2. I don't know how to use auto-load for DVDs. Is it possible? I have a subtitles folder, and I added its path to the registry for auto-loading, but I don't know how to name the file in order to be picked up by dvobsub. I tried subtitle.sub as the FAQ suggested and it didn't work.


One last thing: is there any way I can used dvobsub with some other player (PowerDVD, WinDVD)? I'm not familiar with ZP, and furthermore, I'd love to be able to use my Dxr3 card, if possible.

You see the two major problems very well :) It is a pain to syncronize with the dvd because of the leading things, and autoloading isn't possible too, since there is no source file name or anything to rely on in the filter graph.

Maybe a way to implement auto-loading would be to have a default file name which, when found, would be auto-loaded.
The readme does specify subtitle.srt, but I tried, and it didn't work.

It would be nice to just have to copy a subtitle in c:\subtitles, rename it to something standard and have it auto-loaded.

This feature would make synchronization somehow possible (e.g. if dvobsub loads up the subtitle at the same moment on every run, I could adjust the subtitle times to match the DVD).
