Hey, RoopeT,
Did you find a way to solve subs garbages on Philips 7xx 6xx players?
I remember to all:
In all these players, when you mux a SVCD style subs, after 5-10 min of continous viewing, instead sub appear a garbage, a white box or subs disappear for the rest of the video.
I tried:
swap with another video.
swap bmps in the wrong spot
change sub script timecode in that spot.
I had the same problem.
The problem appear always in the same spot with all these changes.
Only if I create subs with Maestro SBT the error appear about 2 mins after.
Any idea?

I tried last night to sub Shrek with Maestro generated subs and WinSubMux 0.2.0.1, but still the player has problems with subs. I don't think there's anything wrong with the subbed SVCDs I've created, but it's the crappy player/firmware.
I might do subbed SVCDs even though the sub are sometimes dissappearing / showing just a white box (after all, the subs come back with a little sub stream recycling), what disturbs me most is the playback problems related to subbed SVCDs.

Did you try in this way?:
Extract with SubRip in OCR Mode.
You have a text file.
Convert to .ssa (Maestro SBT) with SubAdjust.
Create bmps with Maestro (8 or 4 bbp uncompressed), output script of maestro -> Philips OGT mode (.sub).
Authoring with Philips Toolkit.
I can't try for myself 'cause I have Philips SVCD Toolkit, but not ........ you know.
BTW: Did you see that there's a new firmware version (4.22) but reserved to 2002 models? (DVD 623, 723 ecc.)
I'd like try... but I'm too scared, so I won't.
And there's a chance that player doesn't accept it.
So...

I haven't tried Maestro generated subs wirh Philips SVCD Designer, but I'm sure that wouldn't help. And I don't want to use SVCD Designer, even though I could.
I noticed the new firmware and was hoping that a new one would arrive for our players too. But now that you mentioned trying this fw for 623 etc ... If the player wont accept it, fine (now harm done). If it accepts it and works better, fine again. If it accepts it and works a lot worse, it should be possible to downgrade the FW back to 4.15o-0. So maybe I will test it ... If I decide to do it, I'll drop you a mail.
