I am having some problems with French subtitles, which
I have ripped from the DVD. I have done exactly as in Doom9's VobSub guide, not changing any parameters (placement or color, etc).
The ripping went fine and the subs show at the correct time when I play the avi (DivX). But strange characters appear from time to time, for example, the French letter é (an e with an accent) looks like a captialized Ç. And the word ou (where) becomes o". It looks equally weird when I play the DVD and turn on the original subtitles there.
What can be the cause of this phenomena and what can I do about it?
Is it because of bad subtitling on the DVD or because I am using an English version of Windows? The Spanish subs seem A-OK and there are lots of "non-english" characters in it, that displays just fine, so I suspect it's not Windows-language-related.
