VOBSUB format to any text based format (.srt,.sub, etc.)?! possible?!

hello,

i have just a question. if i have a ripped movie with vobsub subtitles (.idx+.sub) can i convert it automatically with a program (is there any program?!) to text based formats like SubRip, MicroDVD, SSA, etc.

ok, sorry, i found my program... SubReSync...

just i have now a problem it freezes during OCR my subtitle... ;(
(about at 70% of the whole movie)
anyone have an idea for this?!

Hello,

You wrote that you wanted a automatic conversion of sub subtitltes to text format subtitlte and add that SubReSync can do so.
But is still use a OCR software to make the conversion and then we loose the benefit of this great tool DVobSub that give you the exact subtitltes with all the tags (italic...).
If we have to use a OCR, then we have the same problem as Subrip software that is that you have to check every line.

I don't know if it is possible, I would liek just to suggest to Gabest :
Is that possible to have an real automatic conversion .sub -> .srt ?
or suggest to Tobias :
Is that possible to implement in the DS of OGG the .sub format for the subtitles ?

hello David,

i think what you want is impossible, cause there are various fonts in DVD subtitles, not every DVD use same characterset, so till this still remain we must use OCR software like there is in SubResync built-in too... anyway there is a irritating thing, exactly is that the OCR soft can't distinguish the "I" letter from the "l" letter and this cause a lot of mistake which i think cannot repaired by software unless with a spell check modul?! anyway this is not so big problem, displaying with these mistake the subs are looks correct, all the same it wrong.

to answer my last question ;)
i think the problem was with my windows, cause when i rebooted my computer it was good.

i think instead of these problems VobSub and its tools is a very good (alone) DVD subripper program.

I think you're right, as DVD subtitltes are all different it probably cannot be use by ogg subtitles filter. :(
The problem of subrip is not crucial, it is just annoying, especially because there is a really great tool like Vosub that gives you exact subtitle.
I was just wondering.
