View Full Version : Problem with "The Sound of Music" lyrics subtitle

When the SOM BD is ripped using eac3to 3.44, it gives (among others) 2 English subtitles, a plain text one, and one for song lyrics plus non-English dialogue.
The plain text subtitles are fine. The problem is with the ones for song lyrics. In the BD, if these subtitles are selected, they play with the current word being sung highlighted (in colour). Timing is correct.
When the eac3to extracted song subtitles are played with the SOM rip, they play with timing which is clearly wrong - basically in sync but the duration is very shortened, or may play in 2 or so sections.
Also while the subtitles are in colour, highlighting the current word is completely lost.
Any clues as to how to deal with this problem?
TIA
PS I think the essence of the problem is how to extract bluray "sing-along" PGS subtitles into a SUP -> idx/sub which can then be used in a BD rip?

I remember the subtitles for "The Sound of Music"
There is "Forced=" True "
But I don't know if what I'm saying is on the same line as your question.

When I used BDSup2Sub 5.1.2 to convert the relevant SOM
00360 - 32 - Subtitle (PGS), English, 3423 captions.sup to idx/sub,
"Export only forced" is greyed out.

Animated BD subs are a different animal. Not that simple...

I would try other demuxers: tsMuxeR or DGDemux, then test remux with tsMuxeR.

eac3to builds up to 3.45 included have an issue with PGS demuxing (https://www.rationalqm.us/board/viewtopic.php?p=19410#p19410). Try a more recent build or use another software like MakeMKV.
I don't think the karaoke animation is the issue, and I am doubtful SOM uses any of the advanced PGS features. All professional PGS encoders are very stupid, and most of the effects you have seen in old discs are made by hand in the PES Editor of the authoring software. Pure insanity.

Most of the subtitles on this disc are greyed, with a few being song lyrics based (karaoke) subtitles and some having "Forced=" True“
No white subtitles
Forced Subtitle:
Mandatory subtitles refer to a type of subtitle that is forcibly displayed during movie playback, regardless of whether the user has closed the subtitles or not

32: Subtitle (PGS), English
The above one is a song lyrics (karaoke) subtitle

It can be done, I don't know how, I cribbed the subs off someone else who got it to work.
DGDemux is a pain to use. The GUI kept closing when tried to open the disc, had to decrypt to HD then use the command-line. Even then the result was similar to what eac3to produced, subs which displayed erratically - the same text flashing on and off - and roughly in sync.
Thanks for all the help anyway.
