I have an SRT which contains multiple subtitle streams which you can download here: https://tinyurl.com/3xwu3kf5
When you look into an SRT with a text editor you can usually simply see the subtitles, when you look into the one above, it seems to contain garbage, but when paired with the appropriate MKV, you can see it contains multiple, selectable language streams which display correctly. This is the first such SRT I have seen.
Is there a way to extract the individual streams from this SRT?
:thanks:
Hello JimmyBarnes,
I have downloaded the SRT file and tried the following:
Open a video file with VLC/MPC-HC and add the SRT file manually.
Use mkvmerge to produce a video file with these subtitles and open it with VLC/MPC-HC
In all cases, media players have no issue playing the subtitles but cannot list a language (as expected, the SRT format gives no indication of language to the player), but I don't see multiple subtitle streams.
My best guess is that you're confused :
This subtitle file doesn't contain garbage, perhaps you're trying to open it with a text editor that doesn't recognise the (admittedly weird) "Windows-1255" encoding.
This subtitle file contains subtitles in the Hebrew language
You may have had the illusion that there were multiple language contained in this file from the subtitle language menu of your media player, but other entries may come from subtitle streams embedded in the video file you're playing or are external files that were automatically added by your media player because of similar file name.
I hope you can get to the bottom of this question. :)

Your efforts much appreciated DRS. In Zoom Player 10 you can see the subtitle names

Anyway I found a way to get the single subtitle I was wanting.
Many thanks again
