Synchronize an SRT from another source in an encode

Hello,

This is a VLC question but I'm having one of those username
password mismatches and the forgot procedure didn't work

I have a full length music video-- an opera that has a folder of lots of subs. I encoded those using Handbrake as I would normally do to select from VLC in use during playback.

An Italian sub not on the list was available at opensubtitles. I've been playing with it but with some simple problems. First off, the Italian sub displays fine.

Simply put I need the subtitles moved forward about 8 mins 32 secs past an introduction. Other edits I tried didn't work. Handbrake drops them off. I failed at editing the SRT because all the timestamps have to be advanced. ( If there's a tool for that I would try it.)

Please direct to the VLC procedure (not a you tube) in text to load the extra SRT and move the start time forward. The only thing I saw in VLC was calibrated in seconds or seemingly that way. Please give a step by step in word text for this that I could print to paper and follow along.

The question was on using VLC not Subtitle Edit. I'll check for other replies in the coming days.

Some movement here at least. I am unfamiliar with doing any of this. So far not much help.

I have Daum Potplayer as well. What I want from my question is
how to start the video clip and then synchronise a subtitle
which is from a third party source. In other words, it is a subtitle from the same opera
which, once matched up, should blend with the
clip since music and dialog in opera should be pretty close across performances.
At least that is my goal.

What I have so far:

I start the clip.
The clip has a featurette before the actual opera.

At minute 3:26 from the start of playback I see the
first line of dialog. There is actually a scene marker a few frames
before. The clip is 25 fps in European style and encoded that way.

The first spoken/sung dialog in the clip comes at minute 8:32.

What is the series of steps needed in either VLC or Daum
to manually move this on the fly for a first time user?

Also, with instant email notification turned on, I've received no
notifications of these newer replies. I'll just check back in a while.

A good solution was found I had not considered. The script of an original SRT can be manually translated in text or run through a translation program. This eliminates having to replace and synchronize a third party SRT.
