PS: There is also an MPC VideoRenderer with code to enable NVIDIA RTX VSR & Intel Xe VPE scalers (https://github.com/emoose/VideoRenderer/releases) by emoose.

Wow this is awesome! Didn't know it can be run on local files. :thanks:

it only means it trys to access it.

there is nothing of value here anyway the scaler is a very very bad joke.

I noticed the the K-Lite compiled installation of MPC-HC does not included the file D3DCompiler_47.dll in the program folder, yet MPC-HC seems to work fine. Looking around my Windows 10 boxes I see that all of them already have it in the various system folders anyway, and also noticed that they seem to be much newer versions.

So my questions are what is D3DCompiler_47.dll anyway? Do I need it in my MPC-HC program folder? If so, should I replace the existing one with a newer one?

All is working fine; I'm just curious about this.

Thank you!

To compile shaders.

Yes, if you are using Windows 7 and you have not installed the DirectX package or update KB4019990.

Just curious, does anyone use windowed zoom 25%, what's the use case ?

If you have an absolutely massive screen definition on a monitor, and you want to play a video in a corner of the screen?
It's quicker and easier than resizing the window by hand.

Sigh. It is 25% of video size, not screen size.

Sigh... The arrogance...
Now I remember why I don't use MPC-HC anymore...
And there are much better full-fledged media players
options that work flawlessly.

butterw2

Well the window scaling works pretty good in mpc-hc.
I like that you can scale to video zoom 50% in windowed mode and avoid black borders on the sides (it requires disabing the toolbar for vertical videos).

The benefit of the 25% zoom option seems marginal (8K (4320p) videos on a 1440p monitor, maybe ?) but it might make sense as a temporary setting for a small window on 4K videos.
If it was feasible I think making the 25% value user configurable would be good. For lower res videos, 75% or 150% are typically more useful.

I can no longer skip back or ahead in Youtube videos piped into MPC-HC via yt-dlp. Sometimes it works, but frequently it will just make the player unresponsive until I kill it. It may work fine if I let the video play without skipping - or it may encounter a "chunk" that it can't find and it'll do stuff like play audio while the video has frozen. Youtube seems to have changed something in its delivery of video streams lately. I'm hesitant to open an issue at yt-dlp since when the video has been loaded, I don't see yt-dlp.exe running anymore... it looks like MPC-HC handles the rest.

Anyone else getting this?

clsid

They seem to have changed something that FFmpeg doesn't like. There is nothing I can do about it. You need to wait until hls support gets improved in FFmpeg and then that LAV Filters gets updated.

Workaround:
Options > Advanced > YDLVideoFormat = 2

With H264 it works better than VP9.

Sunspark
29th July 2023, 14:48
I tested this on 2 youtube videos, no freezes were experienced skipping back and forth with h264. Freezes with vp09.

If you're getting freezes with h264, try this build of ffmpeg: https://github.com/yt-dlp/FFmpeg-Builds/releases/download/latest/ffmpeg-master-latest-win64-gpl.zip

Not exactly related to MPC itself, but I recently noticed that when my desktop GPU (RTX 2060 12GB) is plugged into it my monitor (which supports FreeSync Premium), 119.88Hz refresh rate is available, and that this value is an exact multiple of both 29.97 and 59.94. Does this mean I can get perfect 1/4 and 1/2 sync with videos at those respective framerates? IIRC, having refresh rate that is a multiple prevents pulldown or a similar sounding technique, that can cause some syncing artefacts from what I've read.

I'm just curious if there's an actual benefit is watching 29.97/59.94 fps videos at this refresh rate.

.m4jX

Exactly. But you already get smooth 29.97/59.94fps playback with 59.94Hz, the advantage of 119.88Hz is that you can play 23.976fps and 29.97fps content without drops.

Refresh rate just has to be a multiple of the fps of your content, there's no additional benefit to having a higher refresh rate. Playing 29.97fps content at 29.97Hz, 59.94Hz and 119.88Hz should look the exact same, assuming your monitor doesn't do something differently.

Nice catch, I didn't realise 119.88 was a multiple of 23.976 too. And you also made notice that while 119.88Hz is not available when my laptop (Iris Xe Graphics) is plugged, 59.94Hz is, which is useful for 59.94fps YouTube videos.

Refresh rate just has to be a multiple of the fps of your content, there's no additional benefit to having a higher refresh rate. Playing 29.97fps content at 29.97Hz, 59.94Hz and 119.88Hz should look the exact same, assuming your monitor doesn't do something differently.

I agree 100% with you. That's why I set my monitor to 120Hz, even though it can go up to 165Hz, so I don't have sync issues when playing games at 30 or 60 fps. For those games that don't have a 30 or 60 fps cap and just run at refresh rate, I just enable 1/4 or 1/2 sync at Nvidia Profile Inpector. Well, I can't see much of a difference above 120fps anyway, so it also helps keeping GPU power consumption, temps and fan noise in check.

By the way, why is vsync disabled with MPC Video Renderer? Shall I switch to Sync Renderer or EVR CP if I want perfect video sync when refresh rate is either 59.94 or 119.88 Hz?

In YT it is possible to save a "shortcut" to a position
withhin a movie (A feature I quite often use).
Does MPC-HC allow something similar?
(Like a drag and drop from the timeline,
saved as a command line to let open MPC a movie
at that specific position).

tebasuna51

CTRL+G over the frame you want save, CTRL+C to save the frame.
Store the frame.
Next time you open the file: CTRL+G, CTRL+V and Go!

Or CTRL+G over the frame you want save, select and save Time and
mpc-hc.exe "pathname" /startpos hh:mm:ss

Perhaps the AMD driver is not working properly (https://github.com/Aleksoid1978/VideoRenderer/issues/94).
Disable P010/P16 in video renderer settings.

Hi clsid, for subtitles with 2 lines displayed, I have it set so that in fullscreen both lines display very nicely centered in the black space beneath the video. When there is a single line however, it defaults to putting that one line at the very bottom instead of vertically center-aligned in the black space.

Does the possibility exist that single lines could receive more padding so that they are also vertically centered in the black space as they are with 2 lines?

im not sure what is going on but with MPC-HC youtube videos only play with 720p and 30fps instead of the 1080p/60 i selected. it also allways uses H264 and ignores my other selections.
i tried using a diff. yt-dlp version and the newest one with no changes and also tried with normal youtube-dl which also doesnt change anything.

i even tried deleting my mpc-hc64.ini and set everything up again, still same thing.

then i tried with MPC-BE and yt-dlp and there it worked, showing a 1080P/60 FPS stream.

im really confused by now why that happens. :( i want to use mpc-hc

Hello everyone !
Sorry if it has already been answered, but I don't find anything related to my specific renderer on the net...

I have trouble with h265 hdr10 content on MPC HC 2.0.0 (Windows 10, Nvidia GPU).

It's grayed out :

https://i.imgur.com/pPBxwIQ.png

Opposite to VLC rendering :

https://i.imgur.com/raPCGd2.png

All I find about hdr10 problems for MPC-HC on the net seems to focus on madVR, but I don't have that, I use EVR + LAV filters (which until worked great) :

https://i.imgur.com/GnaeY5Z.png

https://i.imgur.com/EDFASW7.png

The LAV settings :

https://i.imgur.com/5qFt1SQ.png

To be honest I don't understand much about all those renderer/output settings, but do you see something obvious I didn't do right? Or a possible solution to continue using MPC-HC on hdr10 content?

you should share a sample for reproduction but this is most likely just a tone mapping issue which is limited for evr.

Sure, here is a sample to download (https://www.cinexploria.fr/wp-content/uploads/Lot/HDR10-test.mkv) (23 Mo).

I have the same problem on all the h265 hdr10 files I have tested.

If it's tone mapping (does this mean the ability to readapt color space?), is there a known solution?

how do you make this work with MPC-HC?
i installed it and set it up ( i did use this one before mind you) and then i also disabled "use YTDL" in the mpc-hc settings.

and if i watch a video it does not pop up and ask me for a quality nor does it use YoutubeSource, cause the icon does not pop up in tray. it uses lav splitter/source now i think.

i did test mpc-be then (disabled online thingy) and it worked right away. got the pop up etc.

i now tried to use a new MPC-HC (totally fresh) in portable (deleted the registry even) and still no work. it allways uses something else. i also tried adding it as externel filter and set it to preferred and yet, it does not pick it up.

i dont know what to do anymore really.
i tried a fresh install of MPC-HC / deleted the Registry settings (not that it matters, since i use "store settings in ini file)

im at a loss. i know it worked before when i used 3dyd but i cant get it to work anymore. it is also weird that it works in mpc-be and what is more weird is that even without the youtube-dl.exe and yt-dlp.exe in teh folder or path set (both files deleted) it still plays youtube videos. and i think it uses, for whatever reason LAVFilters for this though i have no clue how. shouldnt it not work?

anyhow, i really want to make this work again cause the audio settings in MPC-BE suck!!! well they dont, but i cant set it up liek with mpc-hc which is sad.. and hence i need this to work for mpc-hc otherwise i cant watch youtube videos at night (using a 5.1 system and in the night i only use my 2 back channels and mpc-hc has a nice channel configuring setting i use..

it like mpc-hc has a life of its own :(

edit:

how can i even check IF youtube-dl or whatever does it is used?
cause when i look at my filter list i only see:

Filters currently loaded:
- Default DirectSound Device
- MPC Video Renderer
- Audio Switcher
- LAV Video Decoder
- LAV Audio Decoder
- LAV Splitter
- LAV Splitter
- File Source (URL)
- File Source (URL)

what is youtube-dl from those? "file-source"?

as contrast, here is MPC-BE (with 3dyd)

MPC-BE 1.6.5.3
Filters currently loaded:
- MPC Video Renderer
- Default DirectSound Device
- LAV Video Decoder
- Audio Switcher
- LAV Splitter
- LAV Audio Decoder
- LAV Splitter
- 3DYD Youtube Source

im sorry if those are stupid questions, but like i said, im at a total loss right now.

Your example link works totally fine here. The problems are at YOUR end.

You should also enable all internal filters in MPC-HC. There is ZERO benefit in using external LAV Filters. In fact it is actually the cause of your problems!

Re-open the Youtube URLs. Don't use the recent file menu to avoid wrong cached extracted URLs.

i tried internal LAV Filters etc also, still 3dyd does not pop up.. (and i do want to mention, im using external since forever and NEVER had any issues)
but the last sentence u said did help me in understand that you have to re-add the links to the playlist again, otherwise it will use settings from before.. Thanks.

but the issue is still there (even without any external stuff) that 3dyd does not pop up at all. while it does in mpc-be (with the exact same filter settings)

although i understand that you have better things to do then looking into a rare issue i suppose. And i totally understand that :)

so i just leave this here, in case, someone else reads this and might know what is up.

Thanks..

edit. the video link i posted from GamersNexus also does play at 1080 all of a sudden, without me changing anything.. maybe its my ISP? (i swear i did not change anything - i make a lot of backups so i can test) it just sometimes pick up teh 720p instead of teh 1080p one even though it is aviable. the same video now works in 1080p here..

and i do know my stuff usually. im no dummy (doing technical support of all sorts and never had issues). i would not write here if that issue wasnt soo weird.

how is ACTIVE / currently loaded Filter list supposed to look if all is normal? and watching a youtube video? can someone post one for comparison reasons, please?

I confirm that BetA13's link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVSSOs9Z-uY fails to render on HC set to h264 mode when video height is set to 1440.

Checking BE (which doesn't like other videos), it receives video height 1088 and scales to 1080. Looking at the file in the splitter there, it's a h264 L4.2 file. So we know it does render.

On HC manually setting some things.. video auto 0, audio 1 results in VP09 playback. video 0, audio 0 results in a black screen. So it will give a VP09 picture with AAC but not OPUS. Will not give anything if set to h264.

h264 will work with HC if you manually change the max video height from 1440 to 1080.

Such bug reports must be placed on Github or they are forgotten. I don't have time or interest to look at it now. It must also be a reproducible bug, not something that happened just once.

More details are needed (on github):
- is exclusive mode enabled?
- does it affect only HDR or also normal video?
- does it also happen with d3d11?
- does it also happen with evr-cp?
- windows version
- gpu model and driver version

I have figured out the issue, it isn't the player. The issue is that if exclusive mode is on, it is unable to return out of fullscreen. If it is off, then it functions normally.

what exactly p010/016 setting do?
Uses DXVA2 video processor or D3D11 video processor for P010 and P016 formats, if possible. :)

Sunspark
9th September 2023, 17:19
P010/P016 are the 10 and 16 bit formats for files presenting YUV 4:2:0 chroma. NV12 is the 8-bit version.

Unchecking one forces the conversion to another format for the video card driver to receive and display, in this case likely NV12 which is 8-bit and well-supported by everything. Ideally, it would be silently dithered down to 8-bit before sending it to the video card. If you unchecked all the format type boxes in the "Use for" dxva2 and d3d11 video processor section then instead it will use a CPU-based shader algo in the shaders section and not ask the video driver to do the work and there will be no issues with the format type.

Unfortunately, it's a balancing act.. if the dxva2/d3d11 video processor is used, then the picture quality is dependent on what the hardware manufacturer's drivers presents (e.g. what algorithm it uses for scaling), but it is GPU accelerated so lower on system resources. Knowing what to do when, comes down to familiarity with the quirks of your card and its drivers.

The worry about D3D9 picture quality vs D3D11 in the renderer is related to the received data from the decoder. D3D9 DXVA2-Native has had issues on AMD and Nvidia (but not Intel) with chroma accuracy which doesn't happen with D3D11 decoding & rendering. However, if you use shaders instead of the video processor, then you will get the same picture quality as with D3D11 using D3D9 at the cost of more CPU usage. So, if you get a picture with D3D9 but not 11, then use that and configure it to use shaders if using AMD/Nvidia. Higher CPU usage is dependent on the file too, HDR 4K 10-bit HEVC will use more CPU compared to regular 1920x1080 h.264 8-bit which won't use more CPU at all because everything can process that easily.

No. The video renderer will not ignore these formats. The video renderer will not use DXVA2 video processor (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/dxva2api/nn-dxva2api-idirectxvideoprocessor) and D3D11 video processor (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/d3d11/nn-d3d11-id3d11videoprocessor) (I already wrote this) and implements all transformations on shaders. I didn't communicate it clearly. We are both right. What you said is correct, if you unselect P010/P016 in the renderer, it doesn't convert to NV12, it still receives dxva2_p10 (or similar) from the decoder but uses shaders for the scaling instead of the vp's scaling (which is desirable for most cases).

What is different is when one puts the decoder into software mode and unchecks input formats like P010. Input received is then converted to a different format.

Use for resizing checkbox in the renderer will only work if the video driver itself has support for that input format otherwise it needs to use the shaders and will go to it automatically.

Nobody needs to ever change the decoder input format unless they have a good reason for it like maybe a broken video driver.. so it comes down to just whether one uses the VP scaling or the shader scaling.

Sorry for not being clear, thanks for pointing it out.

Use for resizing checkbox in the renderer will only work if the video driver itself has support for that input format otherwise it needs to use the shaders and will go to it automatically.

so actually also nvidia drivers have this problem
without p010/016 there is no change in image quality and hdr will work correctly?

I don't have HDR so I can't speak to that.. but for most people, if you have decoder in D3D11 mode and the renderer in D3D11 mode, it should just work as-is. The connection to the display might make a difference for HDR.. if you're using hdmi try displayport, and vice versa.

I think you read what I said as changing the output format changes the decoder mode of operation and I can see how it could be construed that way. I was actually saying that if one manually changed the decoder mode of operation to software decoding instead of being hardware accelerated.

@clsid I've been having fun trying out different renderers. Fascinating how they all have subtle visual differences in presentation. I was pleasantly surprised by the output from HC's bundled evr-cp renderer which is good. One thing I'm wondering about it, it says the mixer output and type is YUY2 but the other renderers state NV12 including BE's version of evr-cp. Do you know the reason why the HUD displays YUY2 instead of NV12? I'm puzzled, because looking it up, it says YUY2 is a 4:2:2 format while NV12 is a 4:2:0 format.

There isn't a universal correct answer to that question. After all, if it was always "a good thing" it would be set by default and there would be no option to change it.

If your system has power to spare, that setting is not likely to do anything at all. If underpowered or borderline, that setting MAY help under certain circumstances.

If your setup is working correctly then leave that setting as it is. (In other words, if it ain't broke, don't fix it).

If you are having performance or other issues post more details about what they are and someone will offer suggestions...

Hi clsid

Since when can MPC-HC process the ProjectionPoseRoll element and rotate the video?

My test file from the Matroska Playback repo is suddenly rotated correctly. The test version at the time was 1.8.6 and it didn't work there.

nevcairiel

Parsing of the element was added to LAV 0.75.1 (mid 2021), all you need after that is a video renderer that can perform rotations based on the metadata.

And as always, thank you greatly for your continued work on this.

I found a problem with rotation.
I used the following command.
ffmpeg -display_rotation 90 -i "movie.mp4" -y -c copy movie90.mp4
ffmpeg -display_rotation 90 -i "movie.mp4" -y -c copy movie90.mkv
ffplay.exe plays MP4 and MKV equally, rotates the frame 90 degrees counterclockwise.

MPC-HC and MPC-BE rotate the MP4 frame counterclockwise (same as ffplay.exe), but rotate the MKV frame clockwise.

Is there a bug in MPC-HC and MPC-BE or in FFmpeg?

hubblec4

Matroska defines all positive values from 0 to 180 use the clockwise rotation, all negative values means counterclockwise rotation.

v0lt

Matroska defines all positive values from 0 to 180 use the clockwise rotation, all negative values means counterclockwise rotation.
Hmm.
Element Specifications > ProjectionPoseRoll (https://www.matroska.org/technical/elements.html#projectionposeroll-element)
Specifies a roll rotation to the projection. Value represents a counter-clockwise rotation, in degrees, around the forward vector. ...
Here it is not clear where the “vector forward” is directed (from the viewer or from the display) and which side of the vector should be looked at to count the angle (usually from the side of the arrow, but I would like confirmation). You can find “heads” and “planes” on the Internet, which doesn’t help. In general, an illustration for the article or official samples could close the question.

Therefore, we read the notes.
Specification Notes > Rotation (https://www.matroska.org/technical/notes.html#rotation)
The ProjectionPoseRoll Element (see (#projectionposeroll-element)) can be used to indicate that the image from the associated video track SHOULD be rotated for presentation. For instance, the following representation of the Projection Element (#projection-element)) and the ProjectionPoseRoll Element represents a video track where the image SHOULD be presented with a 90 degree counter-clockwise rotation, with the EBML tree shown as XML :
<Projection>
<ProjectionPoseRoll>90</ProjectionPoseRoll>
</Projection>
I don't remember seeing this before when I implemented frame rotation support for MKV in MPC-BE. This description is more understandable and it differs from what you write.

If I understood everything correctly, then support for frame rotation for MKV in MPC-BE and MPC-HC is done incorrectly.

hubblec4
24th September 2023, 11:50
Oh yes, you are right.

What a inaccurate description LOL.
You could ask Steve for better text there. I'm also confused now.

I can understand the counter-clockwise method but we have positive and negative values and this changes the direction too.

Negative value plus counter-clockwise = clockwise?

Before ProjectionPoseRoll element there was the Tags method and there was only positive values for a clockwise rotation.
90 means clockwise rotation and why should now value 90 with ProjectionPoseRoll a counter-clockwise and -90 is then the clockwise rotation?

really weird.

nevcairiel
24th September 2023, 12:22
I tried to look at the ffmpeg code, but its written very confusingly. One path negates the rotation, the other one doesn't, it doesn't use the defined helper functions to get the rotation but calculates it itself for some reason or another.

From my understanding of the wording of it, I would think that the ffmpeg code is at fault here, because the forward vector of an image should be coming out of the image towards the user? But its a very weird way to describe it without an example or reference file to confirm.

Coming from most physic rules, (and geometry does see ccw as positive too) the right-hand rule should imply that:
If thumb points to viewer (positive values assumed), then index finger would point ccw for positive Z-rotation values.

Hi folks, since I've built a new PC this year, I have a strange issue with MPC-HC. (both stable and beta) It seems MPC-HC has trouble to close a file. When I close the player, the MPC-HC process is running for 2-10 seconds keeping a lock on the file. Also when I jump forward from file to file or close the file via file menu, it always takes a few seconds. Opening a file from SSD when MPC-HC was closed before works instantly.
I've compared the settings to my -very weak- notebook (which does not have a similar issue), but could not spot any differences. I'd be grateful for any ideas.

Thanks for your input. Typically I'm using madVR, but I tried other renderers before. Tried NULL now for the first time in video and audio, but the issue is still the same. ffdshow shows up in external filters, but I also tried to block its usage.
I'm not sure how to properly debug with process monitor. What I can see is that MPC-HC has still many "Thread Create/Exit" and "ReadFile" before eventually the "CloseFile" entry shows up. Results are all "Success", except 4 entries related to a "File locked with only readers" in the user32.dll which happen in same second.

clsid
28th October 2023, 12:26
If using Madvr, then do not let MPC-HC store its settings in INI file. That can cause short hangs because Madvr tries to access it as well. Although that is usually when opening, not closing. Registry is better, faster, and can be backed up just as easily.

If you don't use ffdshow, then uninstall it. Not related to this issue, but it is obsolete and unnecessary.

If the problem is also happening with NULL renderer, then I don't know what is wrong. Reset settings to defaults:
Options > Miscellaneous > Reset

wickersc

A tip for managing srt subtitles, try Notepad++.
https://notepad-plus-plus.org/
If, for example, you have multilingual subtitles, with special characters, it is convenient to change the encoding, for example, to UTF-8-BOM.
Especially if you make your own subtitles.
I use easySUP by Mr. Dean Kasabow to make my own SUP subtitles.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

I'm so sorry. You guys are right. I just tested it on a different computer, something I couldn't do yesterday and earlier today and they work just fine. Now, I blocked every singles MPC-HC's External Filters that I have on the computer where it's not working in order to match the external filters of the computer where it works and it still isn't working. That is so weird, I mean the x86 MPC-HC works fine with these files on the same computer. I'm mostly using portable apps so to avoid this and I don't install "codec pack". I looked at my Windows' Add/Remove Program to see if I had something installed that could be the issue but everything looks normal. As I'm using portable MPC-HC, I can confirm that I have copy / paste the working version on the computer where it's not and that doesn't help. I mean, both x86 / x64 are copy / paste from one computer to the other. I'm usually good at these things but right now I'm a bit clueless.

First advice would be to stop using "portable" software when your use-case isn't actually to be portable. It typically isn't cleaner or better.

Second, you say "codec pack" as if that is a bad thing. But I ensure you that when you install K-Lite, then your problem will be instantly solved.

Third, you make it sound like you have a list of "external filters". You DO NOT need to add things there to be able to use them. It loads external stuff automatically when needed, just like any other DirectShow player. The ONLY time you need to add something to external filters is to block something, or to increase merit to prefer one filter over another. So empty that list and only add whatever is currently decoding prores/dnxhd.

You may have x64 filters in your system that are used for ProRes and DNxHR. And the built-in LAV Video Decoder has low priority for these formats.

I will advise you to install LAV Filters 0.78 on your system and try again.
If it doesn’t help, then in MPC-HC add LAV Video Decoder and LAV Splitter Source to the external filters and set the priority to “Prefer”.

PS: External LAV Video Decoder has settings for ProRes and DNxHR in the Formats tab.

Both files play here in MPC-HC 2.1.2.

I would not install LAV Filters on the system, and have alternate filters to fall back to in case of a problem, and not be stuck with ffprobe modern way of doing things. LAV is always available within MPC.

Greetings,
opensubtitles.com integration does not work ATM it seems to me.
I registered, entered U/P in MPCHC but no cigar. Podnapisi works fine. Tried entering wrong credentials, got error.
Went through open/closed issues on MPCHC Github page, no issues regarding this found.
Maybe its just not working ATM?
They have some sort of API thingie, should I look into that?
Thanks,

Thanks so much :)
Among other things, the libass option, added recently and you keep trying to improve, is especially interesting for me.

As for donation options, BTC fees are being crazy recently, like just sending 10€ the fee might be like 5€ :scared: Also, the inside of your BTC wallet, every transaction (the amount you receive or spend, when, to/from which address) is public, world visible forever—not exactly ideal for the privacy of yourself and your supporters.
Perhaps that’s why more and more people/developers use Monero (XMR) recently (fee < €0.01 + privacy by default), aka the privacy coin. Though it’s still less known than BTC and thus possibly less convenient in some other sense, maybe having an anonymous donation option wouldn’t hurt if you wouldn’t mind…

Anyway thanks again. Really appreciated :D
Happy holidays and happy hacking!!

apologies if this has been asked and answered, but I couldn't find it easily in a search

wondering if it's possible to have MPC-HC show the title/seek bars (either through keypress or moving mouse to bottom of display) whilst in FSE mode for 4K HDR content using MPC Video Renderer? this does seem to be available to an extent within MPC-BE, but I haven't found a way to do this in MPC-HC (best I can do is exit FSE, seek via bar, re-enter FSE)

in addition, whilst in FSE as above, I can't use mouse-click to play/pause video (as I can in normal "windowed" full-screen mode) - is that also possible? thanks

clsid
24th December 2023, 17:59
No. And I am not really motivated to implement it either since FSE is just an obsolete feature that you should not use.

magic144
24th December 2023, 20:11
oh! ok thanks for that info

so I should just disable the FSE checkbox in the renderer then I guess

I had been under the impression that FSE was THE way to go for the most efficient playback, but it seems that is also an obsolete notion :)

only thing with "windowed" FS playback is that the colours seem to flip state (normal -> oversaturated -> normal) when toggling the OSD stuff in UHD - I assume that is a normal and unavoidable state of affairs? (at least with MPC VR employing OS HDR)

offtopic: I have separate issues with madVR and my AMD RX460, which seems to operate differently in NOT enabling OS HDR and using some driver-provided API HDR mechanism - seems to leave the PC in an incorrect brightness state when switching between SDR/HDR content playback

thanks again for the feedback

MPC-HC v2.1.4

https://github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc/releases

Changes from 2.1.3 to 2.1.4:

Changes/additions/improvements:

There is a new "User Interface" options page where several options have been moved to.
Removed opensubtitle.org subtitle provider. Its API has been shut down and replaced by opensubtitles.com. Please note that although these two websites have same owners, they use separate login accounts.
Added advanced option for insertion of deinterlace blend filter when capturing. Previously the filter was always used.
Reduced minimum default logo/video area size to 16x16 when using the blank logo.
Some improvements for parsing M3U playlists.
Automatic skipping to next playlist entry will pause after 5 invalid entries in a row (such as missing files or broken URLs).
When viewing an image file, it is now possible to jump to next/previous image file in same folder.

Fixes:

Fixed a bug where wrong subtitle track index was saved into history when both embedded and external subs were present.
Fixed manual subtitle search (from results window) for opensubtitles.com provider.
Several other small fixes and improvements.

I've been using EVR-CP for years since that is all I needed and it worked fine, but I finally have the right equipment for HDR (HDR OLED TV and a 4070 TI Super) so it is time for some changes. I see that MadVR is still considered the gold standard, but since future support is uncertain and MPC-HC now has it's own HDR renderer I would like to just jump into MPC Renderer and "grow" with that.

I'm using the clsid version, and know how to get to the settings, but have no idea what I am looking at. Googling terms like Lanczos and Catmull-Rom produce lots of results, but I'm looking for info specifically on how these are used in MPC-HC (with MPC Video Renderer), guides, explanations, tweaking info - things like that.

Any good links that explain all these options, what they do, how to best set them up for my usage, etc.? Any info would be appreciated!

these are just the name of simple image scaler.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_scaling

jinc real name is ewa lanczos which is even slower and fancier version of lanczos.

cartmull-rom and nitchall... are nick names for versions of bicubic. mpcVR bicubic sharp is also know as bicubic 150 because it uses a value of -1.50. here this explains "bicubic" well kind of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuXjwB4LzSA

lanczos can look at more pixel the number at the end usually means that but there are different ways to count that so lanczos 2 may mean 2 totally different things.

the option selected in chroma will be used to scale the chroma the option upscaling will be used for the image so after chroma is correct that all.

By default it uses the DXVA2/D3D11 video processor for resizing. So those Shaders are not used unless you uncheck that option. In general, don't touch/change things that you do not understand.

If you wish to use Shaders, then bottom most choice in the dropdowns is generally best for quality and slowest in performance.

To figure this out better, you need more data points..

By any chance are you getting the audio by using an audio output from a monitor connected via hdmi? On mine this would be a disaster, it would be too quiet. Have it output directly from your PC instead so it doesn't go through the monitor.

Compare sound using Windows Film & TV player.. not for sliders (which it doesn't have), but just to get a frame of reference of how it sounds in general compared to the players you're working with.

If your input file already is stereo, then try Volume Normalization:

Any suggestions how to self-analyze, just because I'm curious...

I have an MKV in which MPCHC doesn't show under Content Menu \ Audio Track one audio track (DTS) out of two, and effectively it can't be used. The track is listed fine under File \ Properties \ MediaInfo.

I tried remuxing it with MkvToolnix (old version), leaving only the affected audio track, along with the video. It behaved the same in the new file, like the track is not there, though shown under the MediaInfo tab.

Same on MPCHC v2.1.6 as well as v1.8.x.

Any of the following worked:
- Remuxing with Avidemux.
- Remuxing with MkvToolnix after Avidemux.
- With MkvToolnix tools, in two steps: extract the DTS track with mkvextract, then mux the video from the original file + the standalone audio (instead of directly muxing both from the source MKV).

Not sure if MkvToolnix is to blame or MPC-HC, but all the following didn't have a problem finding the track: MediaInfo (also inside MPCHC), Avidemux, MkvToolnix.

I think MPC could use a 'go back' feature for times when we accidentally hit Page Up or Page Down and the next or previous video loads. Whenever it happens, I lose my place in the video I was watching and it's really annoying. MPC could mark and remember the current video and time index before loading the next or previous video so we can go right back to where we were just by hitting Alt+Left Arrow (as in web browsers) or whatever hotkey. It probably wouldn't take much and would be a life-saver at times.

There is literally already such an option on the very first page in the options...

Thanks for the response. I’ll have to explain the circumstances a little better. I record Chaturbate shows and make review videos, but I don’t want my kids to see those files in MPC’s history list. So, I have the history turned off on the first page of the options.

I accidentally end up hitting Page Up or Page Down in the middle of “editing” my review videos. I don’t “edit” them, I skim through them in MPC and use OBS to record snippets that are worth highlighting. It might take me an hour to get halfway through a show… then I hit Page Up or Page Down accidentally, the next cam show recording gets loaded, and I lose my place in the show I was “editing”.

It takes me forever to figure out where I was in the last recording, so I want to be able to set a hotkey to go back to the last video at the time index it was at before Page Up or Page Down got hit. I wouldn’t want that list to be saved from one MPC session to the next. If I exit MPC, it’d forget the last video and time index.

There are surely other applications for it, for anything private or what might be illegal in countries like China. It’s fairly normal not to want to advertise a history list in a media player. Most people probably watch pr0n on websites and use incognito windows, so their browser doesn’t remember the pr0n sites and videos that were watched.

But not everyone watches videos on websites. I can’t stand online media viewers. They’re all terrible compared to MPC.

Obscure little bug I've encountered:
If a DVD is looping at the root menu it's not a DVD feature to be able to pause it so that function is greyed out. However, from Windows 10's lock screen MPC is shown (with its exe name) and the pause button works there. This causes MPC to hang/crash when the user logs back in again although the menu does seem paused. As I say, not a common condition to encounter but I thought it was interesting all these things coming together in a situation that shouldn't be possible.
Anyway, this is my first post. Hello all.

Thanks for the response. I think I need to explain this differently because I don't want MPC keeping a history.

Why can't we have "Remember position of previously viewed files" without having to keep a public history of every file we view in MPC? I know you have to store the file path with the position so MPC will know which positions go with which files. But that's got nothing to do whether we want a history list to be displayed when File > Recent is selected.

Because I'm only concerned with accidentally hitting Page Up or Page Down, I also don't want MPC to remember filenames or positions on exit. Once I exit MPC, I want it to forget that it ever viewed any files. The history list is completely separate from what I've asked for and why I asked for it.

There are several ways for you to workaround this.

First, if you find yourself accidentally hitting a key that does something annoying like Page Up/Down is for you, you can disable that key from doing anything in MPC-HC options -> Player -> Keys. You could also just change it so that a "normal" keypress does nothing but a CTRL+Keypress does work. Either would fix your problem of pressing the key inadvertantely.

Second option: in MPC-HC options -> Player check "Store settings in .ini file" so MPC-HC will keep all of its settings (and history) in an mpc-hc64.ini in its program folder. Then enable all history settings and keep a copy of your mpc-hc64.ini file somewhere with all history removed. Now, every time you are done "editing" in MPC-HC just overwrite the mpc-hc64.ini file with your saved backup copy, and "poof" all history is gone. You could make this process "1-button" easy with a simple batch file. If it sounds like it would work for you I would help you create it (if you are not computer & batch file savvy).

Accept their somewhat brusque style as a consequence of asking to add to their own workload, rather than thinking it's a personal attack on you that they just don't want to do what you think they should, and will tell you very directly. Breathe, people, it's a media player, not an excuse to wade into battle. Fortunately, most of you don't need to hear this, but those who do know who they are.

Has anyone else noticed that MPC-HC sometimes hangs on startup?

Nothing happens, so I run MPC-HC again. Nothing happens again, so I look in the program manager and see two MPC-HC instances. When I kill one, only then does the other one start.

Sometimes a stuck task happens to me too. But the reasons can be hard to spot. The player as such is not very probable, as it is "merely" a container for the really active components, decoder and renderer. And especially a decoder is vulnerable to e.g. data errors in media sources.

Jup, confirmed - haven't happen in a while for me, but somehow I doubt that this is due to me upgrading it to 2.1.4 (c82061aef) [x64] in january (btw. time to upgrade again) and it most of the time is just happening whence i switch through (many) videos in a short time (with some seeking) [for instance whence taking screenshots for episode thumbnails (new season, new series bought and encoded - whatsoever)] and I guess that LigH is right and the real culprit/hickup within the filterchain is nearly impossible to nail down by regular use and i guess even pretty hard to hunt down in a dedicated test environment/debuging scenario.

Madvr is a common cause of freezes/hangs. Specially when combined with d3d11 native hardware decoding. It is bug in Madvr related to not freeing its queue for LAV to use, so there is NOTHING I can do about it. Madshi knows about it for years. It happens rarely, but excessive seeking can trigger it more frequently.

Hello and is this correct

https://i.ibb.co/wRXFXLG/Untitled-1.png

This is what it looks like when I open a physical DVD-ROM disc which has "closed captions" inside the MPEG2 stream (not to be confused with VobSub, which is a different subtitle format that uses bitmap images stored externally to the MPEG2 stream - this disc does not use those, it uses "closed captions"):

https://i.ibb.co/pf6TbG0/2.png

If I open the "DVD Navigator" filter it looks like this:

https://i.ibb.co/ZJj6038/3.png

"SubPicture" kind of sounds like VobSub tho which is NOT used by this disc so maybe the above image is redundant.

I get this all the time when I play .avs files with higher CPU load like QTGMC. Before exiting I have to pause the video, wait a few seconds for the CPU load to drop to idle, then exit, then the mpc-hc64.exe disappears from process list. If I exit too fast while the CPU is busy buffering frames, GUI window disappears but mpc-hc64.exe stays running (not consuming any CPU tho). I figured it must be some issue with Avisynth but now I'm not so sure. Handles to the .avs file probably aren't getting released as it won't let me reopen the same .avs file until previous instance is killed.

DVD Navigator is the source filter that reads the DVD and handles the menus. You can not and should not replace that.

Those CTT settings are for completely disabling MS filters (which you should not do). If you want to use the MS DTV-DVD video decoder in MPC-HC, then either disable internal MPEG2 decoder or add it as preferred external filter.

I was curious to try and since I have a DVD drive handy and some DVDs lying around still that only have CC and not vobsubs I took a look. There are issues.

VLC opens the disc menu fine, and plays the disc.. closed captions are selectable and have the black background behind the text, etc.

With MPC, even with the instructions posted here add these filters, disable that decoding in internal, etc. it doesn't work. The disc attempts to open but it shows garbled coloured macroblock squares, etc.. when it starts playing there's a lot of garble. Can barely see anything. Something is not working well.

To get that remote graph loading under Win10 one might need to download proppage.dll from

regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\proppage.dll

Still it seems as if i missed something,
Win10P64 22H2 here, MPC-BE noinstall, run from unzipped, DVD folder play.
MPC-BE shows CC nicely, on top of the selected normal subs.

Now the same with MPC-HC 2.2.1 noinstall, run from unzipped, DVD folder play.
Add Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder (Win7) to the external filters and set it to “prefer”.
-Does nothing for MPC-HC in terms of CC. No CC overlay, graph connects to LAV video decoder first, and this decodes no CC
(Add MPC DVD Video Decoder (Win7-10) to the external filters and set it to “prefer”.
-Not listed, so not selectable.)
I have MpcVideoRenderer-0.7.3.2210 registered systemwide.

Yep I tried that a while ago, it's great, but ultimately not quite good enough for my usage for some technical reasons like the frame counter doesn't work properly and other stuff that comes out different due to the upstream flags being passed for things like aspect ratio etc. which gives different aspect and colours compared to what you'd get in standalone Avisynth. I might end up using it though anyway simply for applying Normalize(0.98) globally. Haven't tested out compatibility with advanced scripting stuff like ScriptClips and multithreading which to be frank are already a bit dodgy in standalone Avisynth so I'm not confident they'd work reliably in CrendKing's wrapper.

Hi.

I am not sure if this is even a MPC-HC issue, but here it goes.

I have a MKV file with TrueHD/AC3 audio.

The issue seems to be that the TrueHD audio is 96 kHz sample rate, and the AC3 track is 48 kHz sample rate. It is like that on the disc.

When I change the audio from TrueHD to AC3, the audio starts to play at double the speed.

I have done the same in VLC, MPV and SMPlayer, and they all handle the switch from TrueHD to AC3 just fine. No difference in speed, when switching forth and back between the two audio tracks.

Any idea why this happens in MPC-HC?

Thanks in advance.

Well it's obviously something to do with 48x2=96.

I'm assuming you're using LAV for the audio decoding so it may not be an issue with MPC-HC - try toggling various settings in LAV Audio Decoder.

You could also try cleaning/repairing the mkv file with mkvtoolnix or ffmpeg - maybe it's lacking some timestamps or something which different decoders handle differently.

It's hard to know what's going on without seeing the file.

-----------------------------------------------

I have an audio issue/question of my own: if I enable "audio switcher" and "time shift" in MPC-HC settings, can it potentially degrade audio quality? Occasionally I need to use it for realtime adjustment of audio delay for some DVDs. For example does the audio switcher perform any audio format conversions internally? Has anyone performed a test recording to see if it's bitperfect? I don't use the WASAPI exclusive mode.

Also is there any way to map a hotkey to "reset audio delay"? When I'm in fullscreen I can't see any on screen display of what the current audio delay is because I'm using MadVR fullscreen exclusive mode. So if I lose track of how many times I tapped my audio delay +/- hotkeys I have to exit. If I had a "reset audio delay" hotkey I could reset it to 0ms and then start counting my +/- taps again to dial it in.

:thanks:

Enabling SaneAR didn't change anything. But, the problem could very well be related to some weird thing with my codecs.

When I load the file into Grahpedit, and use LAV filters 0.72 (which is what my system has), both audios play at the correct speed.

Not really sure what triggers the issue here with MPC-HC.

My system is an old install, and a lot of fideling arounf with audio codecs have been done over the years. So, my very well be something on my system :-)

No other options. The problem is that the subtitles are always bottom-aligned. If I manually align single-line texts to fit the bottom of the video, then multi-line texts will overlap with the video.

Maybe it's just me, but I honestly don't even know why subs would ever be bottom-aligned with a variable distance to the video depending on the number of lines, instead of being top-aligned, always as close to the video as possible. So adjusting the bottom margin doesn't really help, as it's the top margin I would like to adjust.

Good morning, this is the first time I write in the forum.

When I'm watching a movie with black bands, I can remove them with the right mouse button->PnS Frame Adjust->Scale 16:9. But when I load the same movie again, the black bands appear again. In older versions of MPC-HC this parameter was saved by default.

My question is if there is any option (that I can't find) to ensure that the PnS Aspect Ratio is always fixed at 16:9. If necessary, I can modify the code with Visual Studio 2019. But I don't know which part of it I should act on.

@LigH, thanks for replying. Could you confirm if you are referring to

Options->Keys->Next AR Preset and then assign a key combination?

I have tried this and I am able to set the AR so that it fills the screen. The drawback I see is that the other movies whose form factor is already correct are also affected and then you have to continually interact to make everything look good.

The only way that is even somewhat close to what I'm looking for is to use AutoHotKey and assign a key to run a macro. Which would be like this:

;Set PanScan 16:9 (Ctrl + Alt + u)
^!u::

;Ensure that MPC-HC will be the active window to receive commands
if WinActive("ahk_class MediaPlayerClassicW")
{

;Display playback options
MouseMove, 200,300
Sleep 100
MouseClick, Right
Sleep 100
;Send "n" key to select PnS Frame Adjust
Send n
Sleep 100
;Make the submenu display
Send {Right}
;Move the cursor down 15 positions until it is over "Scale to 16:9 TV"
Loop, 15
{
Send {Down}
}
;Enter to select
Send {Enter}
Sleep 100
;move mouse to another pos for next same command
MouseMove, 300,400
Return

}

And, for Reset PanScan Config (with Ctrl + w, for example)

; Reset PnS 16:9 Ctrl + w
^w::

;Ensure that MPC-HC will be the active window to receive commands
if WinActive("ahk_class MediaPlayerClassicW")
{
Send {Numpad5}
Return
}

This way, the image will completely fill the screen. But only for this session and without affecting other movies. I've also recorded the key Ctrl+Alt+u on my Logitech remote, which is what I usually use to control MPC-HC.

Of course, any other suggestions or way to improve this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, that's what I said (or what I meant, my native language is not English, sorry). Indeed, by setting 16:9 default, then all the movies are seen in 16:9 and you constantly have to interact. Even those without black bands stretch !!!

Exactly what I intend to avoid. I posted above an AutoHotKey script that does what I want. It's not very elegant, but it is effective. I'll take a look at madVR.

Hi @clsid, thanks for reply. I know the option but zoom has a big drawback and that is that parts of the image are lost everywhere. With AR 16:9 the image is stretched a little but no part of the scene is lost.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think the AR is wrong. It is a film in cinema format. But when you see it on TV you see huge black bands. The only thing I need is to modify the AR specifically for that movie, I'm not going to save it and I'm not going to watch it again.

I definitely think I'll use the method I posted before, the AutoHotKey script. You press a button on the remote, the black bands disappear and the defaults are not modified, which could affect other movies.

You can use Numpad8 to stretch the video vertically.

In "PnS Frame Adjust" you can make custom presets to stretch/zoom exactly how you want for different inputs. This setting is not remembered (unless you enable PnS remember option). So things get reset for next movie.

most are self explanatory so what do you want to know?

1. Resizing: if disabled, the image is a lot sharper. Seems like with it on it just stretches the image to full screen while keeping the original ratio and quality. Wouldn't this go against the whole point of upscaling?

2. Upscaling to reduce frame to 50%: don't see any difference on or off regardless of video resolution, so what does it do?

3. What happens if I don't convert to SDR when HDR passthrough is not possible, the video just won't play? In what circumstances this might happen?

BONUS: I'm quite certain this is the case, but just to be sure: the shader processor options go from the most rudimentary to most advanced?

I understand now what vetono wants. I thought at first they had a display with a technical problem.

No, what vetono wants is to force letterboxing. E.g. to scale the cinema aspect vertically to fill the height, and crop off the sides of the video that doesn't fit.

Yes, you need to use the numpad or select presets in the pan and scan menu like "zoom to widescreen". Alternatively, madvr's zoom control can be used to introduce letterboxing.

Personally, I'd rather see all of the video image..

Secondly, a hang in Avisynth script/filter is not fault of player, so I can not fix that.

It's a player error, because it doesn't happen in other players or editors, e.g. MPC-BE, VirtualDub -- only in MPC-HC.

The intro of the Spy x Family anime uses extremely detailed ass format subtitles. It was zeroing out the queues causing drops, etc. After some troubleshooting, I observed that "Sub Pictures to Buffer" was set at 0. Changing this value to 15 solved everything. No more dropped frames.

I didn't know the term letterboxing but yes, that's exactly what I'm referring to. Simply eliminate the top and bottom black bands (I haven't found any films with side bands). I also prefer to see all the frames of the video and scaling to 16:9 none are lost (which happens with the zoom option) although the image is lengthened a little to fill the upper and lower bands.

But, as far as I'm checking, MPC-HC does not have an option to do this automatically and intelligently. It seems that madVR does have it, as you say. Maybe I'll explore this option but I think in the end I'll use the AHK script I cited above, that meets my expectations. An example of the script in action, when I press Ctrl+Alt+u on my remote.

try a different subtitle renderer.

Sunspark
16th June 2024, 17:25
@huhn This is the internal subtitle renderer. This specific release is from TTGA. I still had assfilter and xysubfilter installed from awhile back, so I took a look at them with sub pictures at 0. assfilter was no good and was unable to render the fonts properly, xysubfilter was better but was still doing drops. Internal looked fine and just needed to have some buffering. It was never a noticeable issue before because usually my stuff is only .srt. A long time ago the original value of this setting in mpc-hc was 3, then it was changed to 10, but there was discussion in this thread awhile back because of nvidia quirks that 0 might work better for some. 15 worked very well with this intro, and I observed the rendering time dropped as well. Normally there is no issue.

@vetono No, letterboxing is when black bands are added to maintain the aspect ratio of the original video on a display that is a different aspect ratio. Pan&scan is when the aspect ratio is maintained but the excess that doesn't fit on the screen after scaling is cropped off (removed). What you are doing and can be seen in the demonstration gif is that you are changing the aspect ratio only which introduces distortion. When you do a vertical stretch it causes everything to look elongated and thinner. This used to happen more a long time ago with people stretching their 4:3 material horizontally to fill to the width of 16:9 causing everything to be wide and squat. If image distortion doesn't bother you, then that's fine, but if fidelity matters, you really should just get used to having empty space above and below, it's necessary so that circles are still circles, etc.

Ok, I got it backwards. Thanks for the detailed explanations, I admit my ignorance on these matters. Personally, I'm one of those who (as you suggest) prefer "stretched bodies" to horrible black bands. As long as no frames are dropped, like in zoom. That's fine for me.

Alright, I put my questions to the developer as per huhn's suggestion.

Anyway, was saddened to see DV still doesn't work ("MPCVR also supports Dolby Vision"). And yes, I use D3D11, and also checked the prefer Dolby Vision box. Is there nevertheless something wrong on my end, or is this what was meant with what was said elsewhere (don't remember where) that DV is "partially" supported?

Still, I very much appreciate the newly included renderer, looks better and doesn't throw errors even while using significantly less system resources (and as a minor bonus, changing OSD settings now actually take effect).

@v0lt A UI suggestion to make it more intuitive for new users, when the D3D VP is active, the shader processor area should be greyed out, and vice versa.
We will not associate MPC Video Renderer settings with filter activity. This will make settings management worse. Some Shader Video Processor functions may be active even if D3D11 Video Processor is used.

Sunspark
21st June 2024, 17:58
Really? I had no idea.. I totally thought it was an exclusive operation.. that if DXVA2/D3D11 VP was active for formats like NV12 then it would use whatever the video card defined internally to use for scaling methods.

And that to avoid the video card, you needed to unselect NV12, etc.

Sunspark

if you unselect "use for resizing" shader will be used for that.

Unless that has changed in current builds, it doesn't work as expected. The HUD shows that it is using DXVA2_VP with "use for resizing" unselected, but if you uncheck NV12 and the rest of the formats, the line will now show Shader video processor and the chroma will be whatever is used in the drop-down and is named as such.

I just have the perspective that the line should show what it's actually using and not labeling it as something else and that you should just "know" that it's actually the other thing.. If you are truly correct, then this really underscores my point that it is not intuitive.

Flipped it to D3D11 just now, says D3D11 VP with use for resizing unchecked while video formats are checked.

If the video format is unchecked, then the line will change to saying what shader algorithm is being used instead.

the OSD is 100 % clear about that.

But that's what I mean.. why do you want the VP to do the chroma scaling? I thought the big deal about using copy-back for so long was because Nvidia and AMD _can't_ do chroma properly.. unless you're saying that because it's D3D11 it's fine and the problem on those cards is now fixed?

If you deselect the formats, that line will change to shaders for chroma, in addition to image scaling on a different line.

huhn
25th June 2024, 07:57
it has nothing todo with decoding you can do native d3d11 and use shader for everything.

all hardware scaling is trash but that doesn't change that user may need to use it or want to use it.
deint would be disabled i know it is pretty broken but not having full rate deint is kind of a big deal.

this is not madVR mpcVR has a full feature set d3d11 with deint.
mpcVR also has nothing worth talking about in terms of chroma scaling.

btw. AMD chroma scaling was "fine" it is low end but done correctly nvidia is doing hardware chroma scaling wrong for like 10 years now.

Hi guys.

I want to report something to see if it happens to anyone else, to know if the problem is mine or a bug. I am referring to v2.3.1 (32&64 bits). I have MPC-HC preconfigured as my default Media Player. And I also have it configured by default to start in Full Screen mode. So, when I click in Windows Explorer on any movie, then MPC opens automatically.

But... Indeed, it goes to Full Screen but I don't see the image of the movie (I can hear the audio), only the logo of the MPC bars. Then, I double click on the screen and it reduces to window size. The image appears. Again double click for Full Screen and then yes, the image can be viewed now in Full Screen.

That is, to summarize, when MPC is opened in Full Screen (by clicking on a video from Windows Explorer) the image is not seen, only the audio and the MPC logo. I have tried it on 2 different computers and the problem persists on both. This does not occur in v2.3.0, which works as expected.

Any comments are appreciated.

Of course I noticed it. I also noticed that in the K-Lite build the entire line "MPEG-4" is not there - not greyed out, just not there at all. Since that version is built directly from your Git source it should behave the same way. But it does not. Leave it off, your player is already set to scale DVDs, etc. to the correct aspect ratio for your display. If you were outputting to a CRT, then you probably need this option since the pixels aren't square there. In other words, the player knows the resolution of the display and aspect ratio as well as that of the video, but it doesn't know if the display itself isn't using square pixels.

A simple test, a DVD with a perfect circle on it, with the default scaling settings it displays on a square pixel monitor as a round circle. Turning the option on stretches it slightly to make it more oblong.

If I'm wrong, someone correct me.

Hi clsid

I have some question about playback and jumping:
When MPC-HC play a video(with audio streams) and there is a jump to another position in the file (ordered chapters or a user jump):
What happens with the Audio frame which is currently playing?
Lets say the Audio is an AC3 (32ms frame duration) and after 5ms comes a jump to another position: what happens with the last 27ms of this audio frame?
Fully ignored, and the new Audio frame will be played directly?

What happens when in an mkv file a duration(BlockDuration) for a Audio frame is defined?
Is the entire audio frame played in this "new duration", or play the audio frame only the given duration and omit the rest of the frame?

How do I play videos backwards?
1. Install AviSynth+ and FFmpegSource (FFMS2) plugin.
2. Create video_reverse.avs file, specifying the path to the desired video file.
file = "с:\Temp\video.mkv"
A = FFAudioSource(file)
V = FFVideoSource(file)
AudioDub(V, A)
Reverse()
3. Open the .avs file in MPC-HC.
4. Stop asking the same question in different threads.

Is there a chance that MPC-HC will respect AviSynth flags during playback?
Just like ffmpeg, which does it strangely though, because by default it respects only some flags.

Or post a sample but not in this thread.

What source filter do you use to open AviSynth scripts?
LAV Splitter Source

I am submitting a request to merge these functions by adding the following options to "Zoom":
- "Set Auto-Fill..." command
- "Vertical alignment" menu with additional "Top; Middle; Bottom" submenu
- "Set on program startup" (or "Set when video starts playing") or "Remember as default zoom" options

For so many years after starting a video I pressed Alt+3, because I didn't know that I can was set it permanently in the options :)

And note: the context menu in the program works as a multiplier of what is in the options. That is, if I set the zoom to 200% in the options, then after pressing Alt+3 (zoom 200%) I have a zoom of 400%. I don't know if this is the idea or a bug. Nevertheless, I was surprised.

Thanks. This should work: "Added Frame Properties support for AviSynth+ and VapourSynth"

Why do players not respect AviSynth's Frame Properties by default?

v0lt

Why do players not respect AviSynth's Frame Properties by default?
1. Frame Properties (in the current implementation) have never been in AviSynth. It appeared only in AviSynth+ (judging by the release description, it can be used starting from v3.7.1).

2. DirectShow players usually do not open AviSynth/VapourSynth scripts on their own. They use external filters that implement this support. You had a problem with LAV Splitter Source, not with the player.

3. Support for AviSynth/VapourSynth scripts via the system AVI/WAV File Source is implemented by the authors of AviSynth/VapourSynth. But it is severely limited by the AVI specification.

Just stop asking here. There have been too many bold users demanding features with pressure that there is now no more way to even try to suggest an improvement politely.

Suggest it to MPC-BE instead, maybe clsid feels inspired indirectly some day.

For so many years after starting a video I pressed Alt+3, because I didn't know that I can was set it permanently in the options :)

However, it doesn't work the way I thought.

I set the zoom (auto-zoom) to 200% in the options, checked Touch Windows From Inside and I thought that each video would be enlarged 2x and the window size adjusted to the video (i.e. the video would fill the window completely).

But that doesn't happen. If the window is larger, it doesn't get smaller and I have to press Alt+3.

Is it even possible to achieve what I want? (video enlarged 2x and the window size adjusted to the video).

Edit: Auto-zoom doesn't seem to work at all. I have it set to 200% and the window size after opening the file is the same as when I last closed MPC-HC.

Try MPC Script Source (https://github.com/v0lt/ScriptSourceFilter/releases) (add it to external filters).

Installed, added in External Filters (Media Type/any).
But apparently it doesn't work -- still ignores frame properties (at least aspect ratio).

Edit: I removed the filter from the internals (I think that's what I need to do?). It still doesn't seem to work, but this also appears:

Did volume increase with 2.3.7 for some reason?I have marked the volume in my amplifier and it sounds louder now in the same setting. The only thing I've done in the last days was updating mpc hc to 2.3.7 and cleaned my really dirty psu.

edit:It's not mpc hc because I tried with a pink noise and volume was 2db louder out of mpc hc.I have no idea what happens.

1. I turn off AviSynth in Internal Filters.
2. I turn on MPC Script Source in External Filters and set it to Prefer.

And I get:
a) no sound (screenshot above - post #2353)*
b) image as with the internal filter turned on (PAR 1:1 instead of 12:11 - post #2356)

Edit: * Ad. a) Sound problem solved after changing Audio Renderer from System Default to Default DirectSound Device. What should I choose? :)

feature requests:
1. give us an option to move the time elapsed from the status bar into the seek bar like in MPC-BE. The reason for this is that i'd like to disable the status bar so that the video size can be larger but i still need to see the time elapsed.
2. move the volume level percentage to the right of the volume bar and change the volume level from grey to white or the same blue colour as the seek bar position colour. The grey volume level is difficult to see.

Those who know me a little better and longer know that I used to be super helpful here on the forum. But thanks to a major influx of dumb idiots all the fun is gone, and I have adjusted my behavior. No means no, enough is enough. The responses you get are the responses you deserve.

So three options are left:
1) Topic is closed
2) Anyone who posts a request gets a ban
3) The forum seizes to exist...

Lots of developers have already left this forum, or are barely active anymore.
