Why this subtitle file .srt does not work?

Hi, dear all.

I found some subtitle hard to convert / fix to srt proper format.


Other forum user ask for such question, but I could not solve the problem myself.


When I try to use some text editor or subtitle editor, such subtitle mess up with the times and pattern srt format.


Can you find a way to deal with such subtitle?


Maybe it is "protected" from editing or copying?

One of the first things that jumped to me was that your subtitle uses "- >" and the subtitles I have use "-->"

Maybe Subtitle Edit is more relaxed and accepts the invalid "- >" ?
Open the subtitle file in notepad and do a "search and replace", and you'll have a fixed subtitle file in less tan a minute.

Also, the srt file is marked as UTF8 at the beginning and instead of using the plain ":" character to separate hours , minutes , seconds and so on, it uses an unicode character that has the same visual representation as ":" but it's different.

Hi. I notice that. And manually try to fix that.


But when you correct all errors and try to open with Subtitle Edit ( or even any other text editor ), Ok. I can do it.


But when I try to save into a new srt, something go wrong.


All the timing and even srt pattern format are messed up. No matter how I try to save using text editor or subtitle editor.


Only making one by one I could do something.


Are there any way to fix that not so "manually"? Something like more "automattic" or smart?


Such srt contain some kind of "protection" or "trick" to prevent editing or something?


I never see such problem before.

I don't know why, when I save using Subtitle Edit line 173 change the timing automatically, like this:

So, I need to correct it manually, using some text editor.


After that, I could open such new subtitle without any complains using Subtitle Edit . Except line 173, which one insist appears using "old time".


Now, you can test the subtitle and see if it runs nice on videos.


I don't know if the previous messages will cause any problems on the subtitle. You must test and make all the corrections needed.

My guess is Subtitle Edit is fixing a time overlap which you have created. Why are you making manual timing changes when Subtitle Edit can do it better?

I did it because all lines have different timings comparing to 173 line. All the very previous and the very next ones do not fit according to that timing from 173 line.

Maybe I made some mistake?

But, despite of that, now I can open the subtitle and test to some videos.

I do not own the original video that the user get the subtitle.

So, fine / accurate adjustments only him / her can make.

Instead of manually adjusting timing, select the lines to be adjusted and hit "Synchronization", "Adjust times"
