Hi there!

I'm just playing around with subtitles in srt/sub format.

VLC doesn't show text subtitles, when I drag them over a running DVD-movie. Neither ver 0.96, nor 1.1.5 nor 2.0.5 does.
When I'm loading only one VOB (of the same DVD!) everything is fine.... ????

What's going on here?

 Many thanks for your help!

Hi!

Sounds like "drag and drop" is not properly handling the insertion of the subtitle stream. Instead, try selecting the subtitle strem from either the dropdown menu or the "floating" menu.

Please advise if this resolves your problem...

Hi!

Unfortunately it's independent of "how" I load the subtitles ...
The DVD internal ones are ok, while the the "textfile" won't display.

I guess this "feature" might be caused by the presence of the IFO files. Maybe this way the text renderer will be blocked (ifo colours etc..??)

Hi!

I cannot imagine, that I'm the only one on this planet having that problem....

Obviously VLC gets confused with subtitle time marks while playing dvd / vob / mpeg2 both pal & ntsc.
(Using 2.0.5 WinXP Sp2, Sp3)

I tried to "reauthor" a dvd using shrink stripping off all internal subs and all except one audio track. I also tried remuxing a mpeg2 + one single ac3.
All this is better than a whole dvd, but troubles are the same:
Sometimes - at the beginning - text subs are displaying correctly. After a while the subs run out of sync and/or show up too short. Especially after seeking (but not only) the subs disappear - sometimes some of them show up at a random time... Reloading the subs has no effect.

... no one ever observed that?

... maybe an other player is recommended? :(

I haven't noticed such behavior, and I use VLC mostly for checking my own subtitles created from scratch. Both VLC and MPC-HC perform flawlessly after a lot of rewinding, jumping, playing, etc... But the subtitles are good because I created them. :)

*Edit: That's whole DVD authored with added subtitles, but same flawless behavior is also observed with avisynth/avi/vob + external subtitles. I haven't tried full DVD + external subs.
