I am using MS Expression Media Encoder to make XBox 360 compatible wmv files with 5.1 audio. I am struggling to find away to get forced subs into my encodes. I want them to burnt into the video, but would really take anything at this point.

Searches have come up with very little, I was hoping some one here would now of a solution.

This article: http://www.3playmedia.com/how-it-works/how-to-guides/captions-and-subtitles-for-windows-media-or-silverlight/
seems fairly clear. You just need to convert your forced subs to SRT format to add to the transcoding project. My software (subextractor.codeplex.com) can do this as can several other programs.

When searching I found that as well. The problem is that you need to sign up for a non-free account in order for them to convert your subtitles to an SRT format Media Encoder accepts. I have tried this process with regular SRT files as well as other subtitle formats MME can accept, however, they need to be in a certain "scripting" format that only specialty software, like that 3Play Media sells, can produce.

I think I am out of luck on having MME do it naively, I think I am going to rip the files to very high quality TS streams and burn the subtitles into the stream that way then convert them WMV in MME.

That is unless a superhero comes along with a secret solution I cannot seem to find!
