Long time ago, when XviD was popular, I used to make srt subtitles with Subtitle Workshop, and also translate English subtitles to my language.

Lately, I have become interested in creating subtitles for x264 videos.

What subtitle editor do you recommend for subtitling x264 videos?
I would like to be able to load x264 video and aac audio in the editor, so I can have audio/video preview.

What does that mean? Subtitles having nothing to do with the video format. It really more depends on what container you are going to use.

I am going to use mkv container. I don't think that Subtitle Workshop is able to load mkv file.
That editor is old, and probably doesn't work on Windows 7.

Well then demux the subtitles from the MKV and load it into Subtitle Workshop to edit.

Hi...

Install shark007 Win7codecs and you can continue using Subtitle Workshop on Windows 7 to create your subtitles.

With shark007 codecs installed Subtitle Workshop 2.51 is able to load any container with x264, mkv, mp4, and so on.

Try it.

If you want to create subs install win7codecs and use divxland subtitler to create your subs, very easy to use-

1 - create a txt file with all the dialogues
2- open video and txt in divxland subtitler
3- press and hold a button for the duration of each dialogue
4- save your sub

you can later on fine tune the timings with subtitle workshop

hope it helps

I tried both Subtitle Workshop and DivxLand Media subtitler, but they either crashed or didn't show the subtitles.

I finally got it to work with Subtitle Edit 3.2.8.
