Hello, I want to create a backup of movie of mine. I have tried a few programs, including DVDdecrypter and CLoneDVD. I don't want to convert my movies to .avi because I fear a loss in quality. These programs have worked fine for me in the past, but I haven't had to worry about subtitles. I am now trying to rip a a Criterion Collection edition of Band Of Outsiders which is a French film so I NEED subtitles. But when I rip the movie using either of the two programs I will get an output of two files, a .VOB with audio and video and a .IFO with subtitles. How can I rip the movie with the subtitles integrated into the .VOB? I've looked up various ways to extract subtitles from the .IFO and then convert them to .SRT and then remux them into the .VOB, but isn't there a better way of doing this? Thank you :D

Define "backup". Is this just for archival? Do you want to use the backup instead of the original?
If you don't want to convert, you could just rip the whole disk to ISO with DVDDecrypter.

SRT subtitles which are text-based can't be muxed to VOB because that's native DVD file format and supports only graphic-based subtitles.
You can convert your DVD collection without any loss of video/audio quality & mux subtitles into MKV file container for instance.
MakeMKV (http://makemkv.com) is very good at it.

The IFOs do not contain subtitles, but, among other info, also the number, the colours and the language (if set) of them.
The actual subtitles are stored within the VOBs. "From factory". So you don't have to figure out a way to add them to the VOBs.
And it was said that you can't mux SRT subtitles in the VOBs, but in an MKV if you insist.
I don't think Criterion is such a tough nut to crack, but if ripit4me (a shell for dvddecrypter and several other small tools) fails, then you have to turn to commercial solutions like, in no particular order, dvdfab or anydvd. I think both of them have a trial mode, so for one movie only you don't have to buy them :).

For the umpteenth time: DVDFab's ripper (which is all the OP needs) is and stays free, not commercial.
