View Full Version : Any SW-player displaying 2 Subtitles stream simulaneously? (DVD)

Hi there!

I'm looking for a software player (win xp) which is able to decode and show 2 subtitle streams simultaneously. (freeware preferred!)

Although this might sound a little crazy - but trying to learn another foreign language it would be very helpful for me. This way I could watch a movie listening to the spanish synchronisation and reading both the spanish AND the german subtitles for better understanding ....

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance!

Maybe a bit late - and I never thought about that (curiously I always wanted such for 2 audio streams (downsampled to stereo and played back via 2.0 front and 2.0 rear) so that each viewer could choose it's preferred language) - but thats just as an anecdote). Can't offer a freeware, but my good ol' PowerDVD 5 is able of doing so for DVDs - but thats not suitable for non-dvd (afaik) content... but what did worked on my try with an mkv containing DVD subs was MediaPlayerClassic HomeCinema and FFDShow - internal splitter of MPCHC for mkvs, internal filters for the video-codec disabled... then selecting the subtitles via MPC-HC and through FFDShow Decoder and at least that's showing both selected subs - but the placement (and the possibilities to override it) seem to be limited - maybe that will work better for text subs instead of DVD ones (And I would bet for text subs it should be possible with an avisynth script as an alternative option)

Hi Shandra! many thanks for your information!

I think that PowerDVD 5 came along together with a DVD burner a long time ago... I'll try to find the CD ...
Unfortunately I'm not very familiar with AviSynth scripts, but this is really a great idea which I never thought about!
What I have considered is combining two text subtitle files with a small (command line) program for displaying them the normal way (using VLC or whatever).

Thanks again!

Korean Media Play (KMP) was able to display many subtitle streams at the same time a few years ago...

Thanks @manusse!

The Korean Media Player seems to be exactly what I'm looking for!
I couldn't check all the 1000 features until now, but I could watch the "built in" subs and "text file" subs together.

Btw. You write "SubtitleCreator's Co-Dev" ... Do you think it's possible to merge two *.sup streams (DVD) into one single file without decoding them to *.txt/*.srt? Is the "sup" format documented and public? (But I'm not really sure to start such a project ...)

Thanks again!

You can do it using SubtitleCreator. It can even merge sup and srt.

Hi Manusse!

Thanks for your response!
Please let me explain what I mean ... maybe we are talking about different things.

I do not want to "join" or "append" two sup streams - I want to "overlay" them. That would require manipulating both "vertical offsets", "show & hide times" AND "overlaying" two graphics inside the *.sup file. That's why I was asking for a format documentation.
(I'm currently trying to find a similar solution for *.srt as a first step - this is my other thread here)
